During a live chat on Twitter to drum up interest in the upcoming auditions for his new Fox reality series, the incredibly press savvy X Factor creator-star judge-executive producer Simon Cowell said that Cheryl Cole, judge on the British X Factor and an early frontrunner for a gig on the Fox version, is still in contention. “Cheryl is in the mix,” Cowell wrote. “Talking to the network this week, hope to announce the 2 remaining judges very shortly.” So far, music producer-executive Antonio “L.A.” Reid is the only confirmed judge to join Cowell at the four-person table of X Factor.
No much other news from the chat. “What will you do if the show isn’t as successful as it is in the U.K?,” someone asked. Cowell’s reply: “Book a fast flight home.. !”
Overall, Cowell sounded pumped up about the show. “I miss judging in America!,” he tweeted. Auditions for X Factor begin March 27 in Los Angeles.

It’s going to be hugely successful. it might not be as huge as Idol, but I don’t think Fox would cancel the show if it had 19 million viewers.
I’ve been watching the UK version and I have to say, I know it will be bigger than Idol. You feel so much more involved with the contestants, yet they don’t dish out any sob stories! It’s all about the dream and it’s way more controversial and crazy than Idol! Wayyy more entertaining! The judges actually help the contestants and develop relationships with them. This show, will be amazing. Also, after watching the UK X Factor online, I can’t wait for Cher Lloyd and One Direction to come to the states. One Direction will blow Beiber out of the water.
With a get like LA Reid, Cheryl Cole just won’t do. Simon Cowell needs to maintain a high profile judging panel (esp. to compete with NBC’s The Voice). Americans barely/don’t know who she is, and she’s only an OK (at best) judge on the British show.
What’s Whitney up to these days?
Cheryl Cole is Obvious win for the US X-Factor. The show isn’t about the celebrity status of the judges it’s about how well they do their jobs ad mentors. Cheryl has competed and won on Popstars 2 and has won X-Factor as a judge. She is THE It Girl in the UK right now for a reason and remember that Simon Cowell was a NOBODY here in the US before Idol so she does need to be known.
Simon knows Cheryl won’t need to learn how to do the job and k OSS she can maintain the mentoring duties so it’s an easy “yes” decision to bring her onboard.
I felt in love with the show in youtube, I dont think he is selling it right… in US… Its not all about the price, the show is way bigger and people here need to understand the difference with AI… Its more than a competition, its a big show and very fun to watch. You need more than a good voice, you need to have “it”. Mentors and the competitions among judges is fun… Xtrafactor is hilarious
I love every part of the show, the live calls, the houses in nice destinations, the auditions, the live shows, the fashion, the fights… I love Cheryl Cole and I really hope to see her in this show, because her chemistry with Simon is wonderful… Plus she knows how the program works, she had 2 winners and a second place in 3 years in UK. She is gorgeous and sweet too. US will love her. The judges cant shadow the competition but they are a big part of the show. If they sell it right they dont need megastars. I watch the show in youtube over and over just to see those Simon and Cheryl play.
I totally agree, it’s way more fun to watch than Idol and it’s way more of a competition, we will be saying bye-bye to Idol. All Idol is, is a karaoke contest. I also agree, I think the U.S. will love Cheryl Cole.
As an ex X-Factor 2010 bootcamp contestant and watched the show since she started, Cheryl as a judge is VERY credible just as any other judge being considered for the show, her passion for the acts she has mentored so far, not to mention the first judge ever to win 2 years in a row, she has proven to be a worthy candidate for one of the most wanted jobs in TV around the world! Just gutted she won’t be on the UK panel this year when I audition again for the 2011 show
I hope she proves all the doubters wrong! You could learn a lot from her rags to riches story too!
I am surprised that the woman who has a criminal record has got a green card. Cheryl Cole verbally attacked Wagner ‘live’ on air about issues that had nothing to do with the show. She is a liability and unprofessional. Her judging skills is debatable as she turned away contstants to give two failed auditions a chance they did not deserve. Her own singing skills are ‘miming’ and she thinks she can judge people who can sing for real? Does he look good in a designer dress? yes but is that the qualification you need to be on one of the biggest shows in the USA? Simon Cowell’s pet.
Well, apparently she was attacked 1st. So, she attacked back in self defense. She attacked Wagner because he attacked her at a public forum.
Actually, her victim was trying to stop her from stealing and then was attacked by Cheryl. That is why the judge told her ‘you showed no mercy’ and was found Guilty. Are you arguing with the law too? and Wagner did not attack her in public, he spoke to the papers and had not even said what she thought he had said, which made her look like a fool after she chose to attack him live on TV about issues that did not concern X Factor. Totally unprofessional, moody, greedy wannabee and can’t sing or judge.
Cheryl Cole and Leos Mares will be named the last 2 “X Factor” judges.
The British singer (Cole) and Czech TV presenter/singer (Mares) will join Simon Cowell and Antonio “L.A.” Reid that will become “the best judging panel” on US television.
Both of their careers will catapult them as the biggest names in America. They’ll be rivaled that to Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony.
Particularly with Mares who had hosted “Talentmania” in the Czech Republic, will arise as a Czech crossover artist singing English/Spanish language Latin Pop/Reggaeton songs. In the Czech Republic, Mares had released 4 albums in Czech (from Universal Music) that he sings/raps romantic ballads. Now this is the time for Leos Mares to reach international stardom. He will someday win a Latin Grammy award for his 1st bilingual album within a few years.
Um… @Shelby do you have a source for that info, b/c I have a hard time believing someone like Leos would be a judge on America’s X-Factor when no one (and I mean NO ONE) knows who he is. At least here in the U.S., a lot of people have heard of Cheryl Cole somewhat.
I’m not sure who the final two judging spots will go to. One or both will definitely have to be an artist.
I heard Simon asked Nicki Minaj to be a judge. I hope this does not happen. She’s a new artist and I can’t see her being the best mentor for contestants.
I’m hoping the final two spots go to Cheryl Cole and Paula Abdul. With these, America gets to be properly introduced to the beautiful Cheryl and gets the reunion they’ve been waiting for with Paula & Simon.
