EXCLUSIVE: It’s become tradition for members of the Saturday Night Live cast to get their shots in features put together by the show’s longtime executive producer Lorne Michaels. The latest? Kenan Thompson, who’s at the center of a deal for Party Starters, an original high-concept comedy set up at Paramount Pictures about that sort of entertainer guy who gets the old people up to dance at weddings and keeps the party rolling. Pic will be scripted by SNL writer Bryan Tucker. Thompson is a six-season cast member best known for his Bill Cosby impersonation and his “What’s Up With That?” and “Scared Straight” sketches. Michaels and John Goldwyn will produce. It’s Thompson’s first go-around in an SNL-generated film. He has been accumulating credits since he was a child actor on the Nickelodeon shows Kenan & Kel and All That, the latter of which spawned the feature Good Burger. Thompson is repped by UTA and manager Michael Goldman, Tucker by WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Sooo . . . this isn’t set up anywhere and is just an internal piece of development. Got it.
Bet your slate sucks and hopefully your notes on that slate are better Mr or Ms. Development it clearly says SET UP AT PARAMOUNT. good Keenan nicest guy to work with and Goldie has busted his ass for him.
Sweet, he is the best part of the almost unwatchable SNL. Hope he finds great further success, he’s paid his dues!
Let me guess… “Mr. B” is also known as Kenna’s manager? I’ve known KT since his days on Nickelodeon and can honestly say he’s one of the least funny people to EVER grace that stage; he’s tied with Fred Armisen!
Can we all say it and get it out of the way. 99 cent bin.
Wow, so much negativity. Keenan is hilarious. But at the same time, as are Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikas, Andy Samberg and Seth Myers to name a few. It’s far too “hip” to hate on SNL and romanticize past casts.
huzzah!! another reason not to go to the movies!!
Literally never heard of this guy until right now.
It’s OK. No 1′s ever heard of you, either.
For all the haters, the “What’s Up with That?” sketches are instant classics.
Jason Sudeikas’ dance moves in those sketches are simply hilarious.
agreed, Jason is the only one people pay attention to in those sketches. Well, him and Lindsey Buckingham.
Kenan can be funny, but dude needs to walk before he can fly. Start with small supporting roles and then take the lead. Wiig, Ferrell, Hader . . . all those guys started with supporting roles.
Zut Alors!
One question: Why? Surely, this will bomb. His carryover audience from Keenan and Kel and Good Burger have certainly outgrown him.
My friends and I grew up with Kenan & Kel and still enjoy him on SNL! While I’m sure some fans have outgrown him, I’d say there’s still a fanbase there.
Glad to see somw WUWT love here. Kenan busts his ass in those sketcjes. No sitting in a seat reading cue cards.
What does Paramount do with the foreign?
-RnsW
Photo shop Denzel over his face. Bam! Winning!
Chasing “foreign” is why movie comedies suck so utterly and hopelessly.
Fred Armisen not funny? He’s gold every week!
Awhhhhh, here it goes!
FINALLY! Give this guy his own movie already so it can bomb and he’ll go live on that island with Kris Kattan and Molly Shannon.
“high-concept comedy set up at Paramount Pictures about that sort of entertainer guy who gets the old people up to dance at weddings and keeps the party rolling”
Good for him. If it’s an R rated comedy ala 40yr Virgin and Wedding Crashers , this could work. He’s paid his dues. Besides every else on SNL got a chance to star in their own film so it only makes sense.
Keenan is the best one on SNL but I don’t get where the high in that party starter concept is.
TWO WORDS: GOOD BURGER2
But forreal, Keenan isn’t funny in SNL at all. No one is.
By far the funniest actor on SNL. They could do a hundred renditions of What’s Up With That and Scared Straight, and the sketches would never get old.
He did a funny turn in a mostly forgettable comedy called Wieners a few years back.
