EXCLUSIVE: I’m hearing Sony Pictures is in negotiations to acquire Pan, which will be scripted as a starring vehicle for Channing Tatum. He’ll produce as will Reid Carolin and Joe Roth. Billy Ray will write the script, a dark re-imagining of the Peter Pan tale. Tatum is starring for the studio in 21 Jump Street. As for Roth, he’s turning fairy tales into gold, first with Alice in Wonderland, and Oz: The Great and Powerful, the Sam Raimi-directed pic that just locked in James Franco to play the title character.

Ugh. I’ve seen quite enough Peter Pan stories to last me for a while. And if there is something new to be brought to the table, I don’t quite feel Tatum is the guy to do it.
Just curious, how old are you?I’m 29 and in my lifetime there have only been 2 live action Peter Pan movie, 1 animated movie and 1 animated series.
While I don’t really care for the character, he hasn’t been that prevalent in entertainment as other characters have been.
From 1924 – 2003 there were only 5 films made about the character.And the animated series was in 1991.
I guess everyone has a different level of tolerance, but for a character so prominent, he really hasn’t had much exposure to the mainstream media.

Odd, given that another Peter Pan project is in prepro called PAN, which according to websites, is listed as a dark re-imagining of Barrie’s story with Ben Hibon helming. I wish I could say I expect more from Sony, but come on guys.
Very interesting indeed. Magid’s PAN script is very very dark and will make for one hell of a cool film. Unfortunately this new Pan project has steam behind with Tatum involved, too bad.

What?!! Ijust read this kickass reimagining script that was going around last week and it was actually creative AND an actual reimagining. How does this sell before that? NEVERLAND is already written and it appeals to the Twilight audience which is pretty big if I remember. Curious to see if someone jumps on that script. Writer’s talented too.

This pitch IS a reimagining. Peter and Hook as brothers. At the very least, it sounds sort of interesting. I read that neverland script too and it was tight. i bet it gets picked up asap if it hasn’t already. Warring Pan projects? It could be like Snow White part deux.

Tatum seemed cool and genuine when he was on Kimmel about a month back, so nothing personal against him… but don’t take that indisputable vacancy in his eyes and tell me he’s just “understated.” Next you’ll tell me P Diddy was just “having fun” and being “over-the-top” in Get Him to the Greek by being usual douchebag-with-zero-self-awareness routine, then going buggy-eyed whenever he was asked to emote.

This is the dumbest idea ever with the worst casting possible. Peter Pan was done to perfection in 2003 with Jeremy Sumpter and Jason Isaacs it was better than Hook and will never be surpassed. Who wants to see Channing Tatum as a 20-something Peter Pan? It makes no sense. Joe Roth has lots his marbles which is actually a joke from Hook. These “dark reimaginings” are becoming ridiculous.
I’m always happy to see Channing get good roles as he’s easily one of the nicest guys in town.

This is wildly ORIGINAL. Wow. I wish I had thought to do something as complex as applying a “Dark Twist” to a fairytale. Hollywood is filled with such talent.

what about that book series the peter pan and starcatchers or what not. sounded promising
you’d think they might want to wait and see how the other fairytale re-imaginings pan out at box office before making all these others… i don’t see dark red riding hood tracking that amazingly.
The Ben Magid script for PAN was great and got him on the Black List a few years back. Interesting to see how similar the Billy Ray
(re)write is but it’s at least clear that Sony acquired the right to use the title, I think New Line had those rights through the MPAA title bureau so either it’s an altogether different project or Sony just picked up the rights.
No one really knows what the story is so I’ll wait and see — but it actually sounds cool to me. Have seen Channing on a bunch of shows and the guy seems much more interesting than the movies he’s done. Plus no pan movies have ever been good, so there is still opportunity to make the one that goes down as the best. Gets my vote as a good idea for sure.
