EXCLUSIVE: Breck Eisner is in early talks to direct The Last Witch Hunter, a Cory Goodman pitch that puts Twilight Saga maker Summit Entertainment into the witch business. Summit made a pre-emptive mid-six figures acquisition of the property a year ago from Goodman, who scripted Priest. It was bought with the attachment of Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov, who has been preoccupied with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The protagonist is one of the last remaining witch hunters, a breed that keeps the population of witches and warlocks in check. They are about to repopulate in a major way unless he can stop them. Bekmambetov is attached to produce and Adam Goldworm is exec producer. Eisner, who directed The Crazies, has also been in the mix for MGM’s Hercules, based on the Radical Comics title.

It’s really easy to dismiss Breck Eisner as the product of Hollywood nepotism, but The Crazies was a really good, well-directed horror movie, and even Sahara turned out a lot better than it had any right to, given the behind-the-scenes madness.
The imagination is an amazing tool to create. There are ” fictional ” witches and warlocks, but there aren’t any in real life, just as there are no vampires in real life:) why don’t they write and create things that are more positive? Rather than going to the dark? How about movies about ” true love ” or ” humanity ” ? This movies are for teenagers who believe in ” Santa Claus ” as well!
seriously?

Witches and witchcraft seem to be getting a lot of play lately in terms of upcoming projects. Makes sense, too, with studios like Summit Entertainment carving out quite the niche for themselves with the tweener market. After all who better for a young lass to look up to than a pretty young thing with super powers?
Something tells us things aren’t going to be all emo and sparkling this time around though pertaining to the latest Summit project, The Last Witch Hunter. Originally the film had the ever-so-busy Timur Bekmambetov attached to direct, but according to Deadline since Bekmambetov is tied up with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, they’re now looking for The Crazies director Breck Eisner to take the directorial helm.
Breck is a high class hack, but there are worse directors in Hollywood who cost five times as much including Brett Ratner and anyone directing an Ashton Kutcher star vehicle.
Breck continues to impress. Crazies was very well put together with solid camerawork.
Breck did an amazing job elevating The Crazies above typical genre fare- The set pieces were always original and surprising – if this is a good script, it’ll be really exciting to see what he can do with it.
