Previous: Why Mel Gibson’s Movie Career May Revive
Summit Entertainment and Participant Media’s long-delayed film starring Mel Gibson and directed by his longtime pal Jodie Foster, The Beaver, premiered tonight at The Paramount Theatre during the South By Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas. Gibson did not attend, but Foster flew in for the screening and Q&A that followed. Film execs and fest staff milled about anxiously waiting to see how Mel’s comeback movie would play for the first time in front of a public audience. The line to get a seat snaked around the building. Attendees told me that Jodie intro’ed the film and received a round of applause. When Mel came on screen for the first time, there were no boos. Laughter occurred at the right moments and the audience appeared engaged. The film received what was described to me as a very strong ovation at the end. As one attendee tells me, “People were really moved by it. They were rapt. He’s phenomenal. People were really surprised they could let go of all the other stuff with him. It went as good as it could have been.”
During the Q&A session moderated by SXSW’s Janet Pierson for Jodie Foster, actor Anton Yelchin and writer Kyle Killen, the audience asked Jodie if this was “the biggest struggle in your professional life” and whether the film’s release delays ”had anything to do with Gibson”? Foster answered from a filmmaker’s perspective, including these statements: ”I was very lucky to work with him and have him as part of the movie. No regrets at all about having him in movie.” This is only the second major film that Gibson has starred in since 2002 because of Hollywood’s reluctance to hire him in even small roles out of fear that the public may not forgive his recent years of personal turmoil. But that may all be behind him now no matter whether some in showbiz think he’s a scumbag.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

The public not forgiving him? WHAT!?!? How about Hollywierd not forgiving him, that’s more like it. What planet do you people actually come from?
What planet? Who ever said these people are from another planet?
exactly!
This is America. The place where people are complacent and forgetful. People actually went to see it and liked it. Hollywood will recind their grudge on Mel when the movie makes money. Principle was thrown under the bus so long ago. This is the society we live in today. I guess you need to accept it. LOL
You hit the nail on the head. This is just news spin.
Hollywood will never forgive Gibson and the news media is hiding this fact. It’s all about the usual suspects maintaining absolute power and total control.
Gibson is blacklisted by life by you-know-who. The public forgives but the moguls hate.
Hmm…”You-know-who” is a rather curiously coy thing to say in an anonymous post on the internet, Mark; and it sounds rather euphemistic to me. Am I the only one who thinks this?
Oh well, if I’m right, no secret as to why you seem to be in Mel’s corner…
As for the sweeping generalization that “the public forgives but the moguls hate”, well we’re a little too early on in the cycle of THE BEAVER to see any absolute answer one way or the other. It is quite possible that, if Gibson reins in his anti-semitic/chick-punchin’ ways, eventually the public could well forgive him– and if that happens, the studios (run by the you-know-whos…) will fall right in line, as money is what truly drives this thing, right? As it turns out, the choice isn’t really up to the ‘moguls’, because they will , in the end, do what they think the public wants. If people are willing to once again flock to theaters to see Gibson’s movies I don’t see too many studios holding to a line in the sand and willingly letting that potential money go elsewhere without a fight– so, if anyone is holding the old blacklisting hammer on this one, it is the public and not the Hollywood establishment.
By the way, Mark, not all you-know-whos run Hollywood…
“The public not forgiving him? WHAT!?!? How about Hollywierd not forgiving him, that’s more like it. What planet do you people actually come from?”
Lol small town minds…
Is it really necessary to quote the comment above if your reply is directly underneath? Lol small town minds…
Yes, those small town minds so unlike the non-bigoted, non-judgemental big city geniuses who never recognize their own hypocrisy.
Small town minds indeed. Excuse us for having opinions Daniel. I guess only you lucky enough to live in Los Angeles are entitled to opinions. Your mind is as polluted as the wonderful LA air you breathe.
May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits you elitist moron.
It’s just all the Jews in Hollywood that hate him for out-smarting them, and beating them on “The Passion of Christ”, and his outspoken telling of the truth about them.
Most everyone else thinks Mel is just fine…
Yes, all those stupid “small town minds” who don’t understand that when Hollywood speaks we should all fall in line….now Daniel you know we shouldn’t name call, it will cause people to hate you forever, never forgive you and hold a grudge against any movie you would happen to create or star in remember.
ps:
“small town minds ??” ????????
Remember sport, you live in “large-town” Los Angeles, the LARGEST city in the United States that “DOESN’T HAVE AN NFL TEAM, AND NEVER WILL AGAIN.!!!!!”..
lol…. if, by grace of God you ever do get an NFL team, it should be called the “LA PERVERTS”….
Lol. LA snobs!
ROTFLMAO big city hubris…
small town minds??? they seem to focus and know what is real than the Hollywierd crowd. How about that Charlie?
LoL…snooty snooty apartment-dwelling miscreant. Go smoke your smog.
Daniel, I think that you just made Eric’s point
Thank God for small town minds!
Lol small town minds…
>>>>> LOL INFLATED ego.
LOL….large city arrogance.
Small town minds?
You are a d-hole. Eric is right on. It was never about the public hating Mel Gibson, it was about the powerful Jews who run Hollywood bashing him over the head and teaching him that he is not above being destroyed, no matter how much money he has in the bank. All for speaking his mind (this is pre-death-threat to Oksana, mind you).
Don’t be dense. The Jews run H-wood and Mel is public enemy #1 because he was such an icon that people actually took notice when he spoke. They didn’t like that. But the simple truth is, the Jews do run this town, and it is a cabal. Don’t be naive.
They made a concerted effort to destroy Mel. But the public loves him anyway. And they’ll buy tickets again to his movies. That is if he is ever let out of Movie-Star Jail… which happens to anyone who can turn a buck in this town.
Hell, the Jews forgave Mercedes and BMW (just look around you!), I’m sure Mel will be granted parole too.
“Lol small town minds…”
Lol, big city losers.
There are a lot of small town minds in big cities – They are the ones who keep the big city on somewhat an even keel!
Small town minds, indeed. They are less detached to public perception than the small minds from big towns.
“Small town minds.”
I agree with Eric. The majority of Americans deal with their own issues and are beyond caring about what happens in Mel Gibson’s life. It’s only in the shallow, self-absorbed world of Hollywood/LA that anybody focuses on this. Why do you think stars move out of LA? To get away from the toxic paparazzi that thrives there.
Of course, I’m just a bumpkin in the small town of Chicago.
Yeah, Hollywood sure is a small town.
Now THERE’s big city socialist liberal elitism alive and well folks! Look no further than here. You guys in the big cities think you’ve got everything all figured out don’t you. It’s only because of small town heroes in our military, and small town farmers who founded our nation, that YOU people have what you have today, and don’t ever forget it, big britches. Knock your a$$ down a few hundred rungs.
Let me guess, all the Christians are outraged. Everyone else is sick of him.
As a Catholic, did Mel Gibson ask for forgiveness? I haven’t heard repentance from him.
Ditto. I still have his bigoted, malignant and violent diatribes ringing in my ears. He should remain a box office toxin.
Just another liberal actor in Hollyweird… who cares.
With any luck, the cloud of radioactive material heading towards CA, as I type this, will make it’s own “impact”.
Mel Gibson liberal? Who are you kidding?
what do you mean, “you people”?
“The public not forgiving him? WHAT!?!? How about Hollywierd not forgiving him, that’s more like it. What planet do you people actually come from?”
Two times what he said. You fruitcakes and you PC BS are the only thing in Gibson’s way. If you had your drother’s, you’d have had him make “Passion of the poor Jew” instead of Christ.
You must really think the rest of the Universe is stupid. Gibson is a great actor. You guys are the completely hypocritical degenerate jackasses.
Thank you for this riveting update on Hollywood’s solitary badboy. Thank you for continuing to uphold Hollywood’s strict standards of personal conduct in its legion of actors, actresses, producers and directors. Some people may ask “why single out Gibson for denouncement?” Well, the answer is, even if he IS the only person in Hollywood behaving badly, it affects the reputation of all and must therefore be denounced, lest the commoners lose faith in the goodness that is Hollywood…Bwahahahaha…
Great post!
Comment by Daniel Los Angeles…..Lol small town minds…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Daniel-san, Austins slogan is “KEEP AUSTIN WEIRD” and it doesn’t take much effort. ;o)
Exactly! The ACTUAL world runs counter to Hollywood because it is the most dysfunctional place on earth….in all of history.
Not only that, but they will stab you in the back, mock you openly in public and drive you to near suicide. Then, when you die, they talk like you were thier best friends. Ask Michael Jackson.
Ah, you made me laugh!! I can’t wait to see the movie. I love Mel Gibson…even more since Hollywood libs hate him.
DID JODIE LOSE HER CHILD ON THE PLANE RIDE TO AUSTIN?
THAT MOVIE STUNK.
If Newt can be our next president, how can we deny a talented actor like Mel a chance to work?
Similarly..if a do-nothing, know-nothing like Obama can be president…well..rob can be president too.
If Osamabinbama (sic by Teddy “Chappaquidick” Kennedy) can be our current president, how can we deny a talented actor like Mel a chance to work?
you spelled weird wrong
“some in showbiz think he’s a scumbag”? LOL! Who do you think runs “Hollywood”, The Camp Fire Girls? LA people will kill a barista if their Soy Grande Latte Half Caf is 3 seconds late. Look at Robert Downey Jr. As long as you can make someone money, all is forgiven. Especially if you can make someone some money. Or if you can generate money. Did I mention money?
So Mel Gibson got drunk and said some nasty sh!t and he gets damn near blacklisted.
Roman Polanski drugs and rapes a 13 year old girl and he’s getting Oscars.
That should tell you everything you need to know about Hollywood.
They hate Mel for what he said, but love Roman Polanski despite him having sodomized a drugged minor. Whose perspective is off?
Mel Gibson should be president!
I mean, he got drunk and said some terrible things. Didn’t Alec Baldwin threaten his pre-teen daughter? Didn’t Christian Bale get arrested for threatening his mother? If everyone in Hollywood who got wasted and made a fool of themselves was blacklisted, there would be no actors.
And let’s not forget Charlie Sheen. He was beating up girlfriends/wives, etc, but didn’t lose his job until he made fun of a producer, or director, or whoever it was.
good reality check… Look at the cazy crap that little black haired troll said (can’t remember her name) about the tea-partiers – She’s on some new TV series now, and they won’t even show her on the commercials – Now she is an example of being black-balled by the folks who count – us.
“…no matter whether some in showbiz think he’s a scumbag.
Having the Hollywood crowd think your a “scumbag” is would be considered a compliment in most of the country. Who cares what they think, or what kind of train wreck Gibson’s personal life may be for that matter. The man’s a damn fine actor, and makes great movies.
Here, Here! I agree. Whatever personal life he lives by doesn’t change the fact he is a good actor. Heck, there are bunch of losers in Hollywood that people continue to support. Let’s not be hypocrites. If they are good in their trade, I would watch their movies. Heck, I went to see Oceans 11 and Inception. Brad Pitt, Clooney, and Leo DiCaprio are antiwar, anti-Bush and “green” tree huggers, but I still watch their movies.
“are antiwar, anti-Bush and “green” tree huggers”
You say these as if they are bad things.
Are ‘anti-war’ and ‘anti-Bush’ suddenly pejoratives? Am I missing something?
Don’t forget about Roman Polanski. A convicted child rapist, but Hollywood still honors him.
That’s “Hear, hear!”, doof.
You’re right! I separate actors and perfomers personal lives and views from their work. Just like you said about Pitt, Clooney, and DiCaprio. I enjoy their work while I love bombing 3rd world countries and killing people, I love Bush cuz he’s da smartest prez EVER, and screw the environment…if I wanna burn some oil and cut down some trees for more paper to wipe my ass with it’s my GOD GIVEN AMERICAN RIGHT!!! YEEEEE HAWWWWW!!!!!
Would you still give Leo, Pitt or Clooney a pass if they had been accused of hitting their wives while they were holding their child?
OR maybe you’d think it was okay for them to go on a racist tirade against jews and black people?
So you’ve made it clear that racism and anti-semitism means nothing to your compared to whether or not someone disagrees with you politically or wants to –GASP!– preserve the environment.
Thanks for clearing that one up for us.
Are you comparing tree hugging to hitting the mother of your child, being critical of the US President to hating Jews, and preferring methods other than war to drinking and driving and then calling the arresting female officer Sugar T%ts? Really?
Ok. I’ve heard everything Mel has said during his tirades in private (which were made public) as well as his tirades outside of private (Malibu). To be honest and taken in the context he meant, I agree with pretty much everything he said. And he’s an awesome actor and even better director and producer. Go Mel!
Thanks, Hee Haw. That’s what I was trying to say, but apparently couldn’t do so without having my comment deleted for some reason.
Mel’s no saint, but Hollywood is full of low lives whose escapades are justified or ignored if they are part of the in crowd. Roman Polanski is still the darling of much of the Hollywood liberal elite. At best he’s a pedophile; worst a child rapist. So spare me the indignation.
Compared to the lunatic left fringe who threatens Senators and Governors, and who act like menacing vandals, Mel is not all that bad a guy.
most of Hollywood hate Jews…they’re just not prone to drunken diatribes…anti-semitism is alive and well world wide…
Actually, I see the tree-huggers as worse people because they value the lives of animals over those of their fellow people.
I don’t want to speak for the author of the post but I think s/he is saying that you don’t have to agree with an actor’s politics or personal problems to enjoy their performance. I view Charlie Sheen as aberrant and perverse but I still laugh at episodes of Two and A Half Men.
What about Charlie Sheen? Do you watch Two and Half Men? Isn’t the Hollywood left pro-abortion! If you want to go down that road I’m sure I could give you more examples!
No, he’s not making those comparisons, any more than you are comparing being critical of the President to a cheerful acceptance of the genocide of millions of people of color, which Pitt, Clooney and DiCaprio are doing (even though they are too stupid to realize that that is what they’re doing). What he is saying is making a distinction between actor’s personal conduct and their professional performances. You can reasonably come down on either side of that equation, but you shouldn’t distort what the other side is saying.
Yes
Really? That’s what you took from his post? Wow…
hey, hee haw, how’s that hopey-changie workin’ out for ya ??
SEAN PENN is the biggest scumbag west of the MISSISSIPPI,hollywood continues to verbally fellate him?
That is why they do.
Couldn’t agree more. Sean Penn is a F’in scumbag Dictator Commy loving Anti-American hack.
And the Oscar for Most Sanctimonious Post goes to…Hee Haw!
Watch Mel being interviewed on the Jimmy Kimmel show and you will know the truth about “Sugar tits”. Mel says, “that never came from my lips. I wish it had, it’s a great line. One always used by the Malibu Police”.
Of course the biased, self-righteous, holier-than-thou media would never ever allow the TRUTH, to get in the way of a good story.
Can’t wait to see this Mel and your new movie “How I Spent My Summer Vacation”.
Yes, again.
Perhaps they were sweet.
Wow! You can suffer through a movie despite the actors having different political views! How tolerant of you.
Are you really comparing the left-leaning politics of some actors to Mel Gibson’s completely psychopathic, racist, and violent behavior? Typical drudgetard.
I apologize for my ignorance, after all, I am one of those “small town minds” that the ever so elite Daniel describes, but I am not aware of the above mentioned actors having physically and psychologically abused their wives or particpated in drunken, racist rants. Having differing political and religious views is one thing. Violent behavior is another. I guess the box office revenues will determine how the public feels about him. After all, Hollywood is primarily about revenue; rarely art. Those films (like decent cars) have to be imported from foreign countries. When the broken down “gilded” state eventually experiences the “big one” similar to Japan, I sadly predict the response of the rest of the US will be the same as with Katrina and Haiti: “meh, good luck.”
I have always distinguished myself politics from talent! If you are a good actor and left wing doesn’t mean I won’t watch your movies. I’ve always separated the two!
What an awesome comparison! Pitt Clooney and DiCaprio are scumbags because they hug trees, and Gibson is a scumbag because he hits his wife and drives drunk. Same kinda scumbag. This is why people in Hollywood think they’re morally superior to conservatives in small towns. Thank you Cyrus!
so, under your damn fine actor philosophy…
what’s the difference if Hitler was a racist monster? he’s a “damn fine” leader who rallied his people.
Mel gibson is a scumbag but Charlie Sheen is the darling of the hollywierd crowd. Kind of says it all, doesn’t it.
And I thought it was a REQUIREMENT to be a “scumbag” to live and work in Hollywood. Isn’t Hollywood the very definition of “scumbaggery”? Mel is small potatoes compared to all the other scumbags.
No Kidding, Charlie call his ex bosses Hymies and not even a fart of a noise from the Celebtard left.
Hypocrites all of them.
Right, kinda like … Mel is a scumbag, but Polanski is our hero.
I fully agree. Mel Gibson is a great actor and director, absolutely an American treasure. And Jodie Foster deserves three big cheers for standing by her friend. The only “scumbags” in the case are the arrogant moneybags who tried to destroy Gibson’s career when he dared to make a movie about Jesus that offended their, uh, delicate sensibilities. They made war on Gibson and he beat them at their own game, and they will never forgive him for it. GO MEL! Good on ya.
Well said. The day I set my moral compass with the opinion of Hollywierd is the same day I let Charlie Sheen take my wife out for coffee.
I wonder if a guy who’s got more money in the bank than most of the people he’s ever worked with combined is on the edge of his seat worrying about whether his film career “may revive”. I know I am. Tell us more please!
Good for him. We all deserve second chances.
I agree with you Norm!
or 3rd, 4th and 5th
Yes, but hadn’t he already been giving a second chance when he went on that antisemitic rant while being arrested. It was later he went on a number of rants including one where he told his partner he wished her to be brutally raped by a group of big black men…
Second, third, fourth chances, ect…
The rich are and NEVER will be held accountable for their actions. But hey, domestic violence, anti-semitic behavior and being an all around arrogant lout is acceptable nowadays in America…you Gibson “supporters” should be proud. I pity the women in your lives.
Well, he has also unavailable for quite awhile after 2002 directing movies.
Just because he directed “Passion of Christ” and it was a blockbuster around the world, Hollywood decided to punish Mel. Well Hollywood, Mel is back. Ready to suck it up and open your arms for him? LOL
Cyrus, you’re right on target here.
The Hollywood secular crowd is & was offended that “The Passion of the Christ” was a huge hit worldwide.
In addition, it’s a movie that can draw a large audience each & every Easter season unto infinity. IOW, it’ll stay in style for decades, as long as there are Christians walking this earth.
Mel will contiinue to rack in royalities from it as long as he lives.
Cyrus, you are right on … it is all about bringing Christ to millions on the screen. Hollywood is anti-Christian and Mel went over their heads.
In the end Mel wins and they lose.
Umm… it wasn’t Passion of the Christ that did it, buddy. It was his drunken, racist rant and the fact that he is abusive and bat$h1t crazy. Selective memory much? I’m guessing you came here from Drudge Report, no?
“no matter whether some in showbiz think he’s a scumbag” They should know. It takes one to know one. And showbiz people are pretty uniformly leftist scumbags.
“Leftist scumbags”?
Why is it that you Americans are so incredibly narrow minded? Is that a natural association of terms for you? So what are you, Republican Ku-Klux-Klan? Absurd, isn’t it!
It is a pity that in a great country like yours, more than 50% of the people still have this kind of mindset. Like the other guy further up who writes that he like DiCaprio and Clooney “despite they are anti-war, anti-Bush and tree-huggers”.
How can you NOT be anti-war??? How can you NOT be anti-Bush, that man lied to all of us and betrayed the WORLD over Iraq!!! And what exactly is a tree-hugger? Someone who cares for nature? Don’t YOU? Sorry but I am flabbergasted by the ignorance in your country.
Mel is a holocaust denying anti-semite. That makes him a fascist scumbag.
And a talented actor, you left out the important part
Mel’s dad doesn’t believe in the numbers – I never heard that he personally does not. Besides that is aside from the point. He’s been crucified in public for making a positive film about Jesus Christ when the so called Vatican has gone around denying Christ by telling the the Talmudists that Christ is not their Messiah and that they are ok to wait for another – the people correctly named above as running Hollywood – Marlon Brando already told us – were angry as hornets for his making a pro Christ film. If not agreeing with the Talmud and the Kabbalah makes one an anti semite fascist scumbag, then most evangelicals and traditionalist Catholics are going to be martyred for ‘that’ reasoning when Antichrist, whom Jesus said they are going to accept as the Messiah because they rejected Him, appears on the scene. Israel holds public book burnings of the New Testament. But for THEM to do THAT is ‘noble’ – for anyone who would burn THEIR book that would be HATE. I say – Christus Vincit, Christus Regnat, Christus Imperat. VIVA CHRISTO REY!!!!!
Take that you petty unforgiving Hollywood beezeys!!! The public got over Mel’s drunken rant about a week after it happened. Here it is almost a DECADE later and you’re still bent out of shape. Most hollyweirdos are more racist than Mel…you just haven’t been caught on tape or snitched on.
Queen B,
Amen to that!
1. I fail to see what’s petty about disapproving of Mel’s physical and verbal abuse of his child’s mother.
2. The screening wasn’t a smashing success or anything; people just laughed and refrained from booing.
3. You are aware that the “Hollywood beezeys” were the ones in the audience, right?
1. There’s nothing petty about disapproving of it…but it IS petty not to get over it.
2. I fail to see the point of stating it wasn’t a smashing success…just like I fail to see the point of stating people refrained from booing. You AND Nikki are being petty.
3. It doesn’t matter whether you beezeys are in LA or Austin…wherever you are, take that!
Bravo Mel……Hollywood sucks outside of acting – they overall are the scumbags and the public is well aware who the scumbags really are
You’re forgetting the most important part of Hollywood-ism, it’s not the rant, it’s the Passion. Hollywood has been steadily feeding us a diet of unmitigated PC garbage, and crying when revenus are down. So when Mel comes along and produces a movie people actually want to see that presents the side Hollywood doesn’t want us to think about, it ruffles some feathers.
I like and respect Mel, he always seemed like a shy family man at his core.I know he is a practicing Christian and yet a disappointment to God on some level, as am I.
This is so true. There is no forgiveness in Hollywood. At least on a spiritual level. There is if you follow the same party line. I consider Mel a Christian brother. Guess what…NO one leads a perfect life. But, everyone needs God in theirs.
Beating his wife and spreading hat, all while going on drunked binges?
Mel Gibson’s a disappointment to God and most of humanity.
‘shy family man?’ are you serious? about a man who beat his wife? just because he says he is a practicing christian, does not mean he deserves respect
When did he “BEAT” his wife? BEAT is what Bobby Brown did to his wife!
Did he beat his wife? You have proof? Has he been forgiven by God? He is a great actor and deserves respect as a human.
Long, long overdue!
Welcome back, Mel; you have been missed!
a big second it
Looking forward to seeing it. Mel’s got some personal demons and that makes him perfect for a role like this.
If only if all of us can have just one friend like Jodie Foster, her unwavering loyalty, true love for her friend, and the ability to think independently on her own…is very admirable, and we would be rich with just one person like her in our lives! I like Mel Gibson regardless of what anyone else thinks:) To think on your own, and stand your ground on what is right is not always ” popular “, but we all must be true to ourselves or else follow the herd of cows infront… God Bless Mel and Jodie, I think they’re both ” good eggs “. Further, the events that took place with Mel in the past have been blown up, exagerated, the truths were distorted by mean spirited people, every life picture is always ” gray “, the reality is never black or white. Lookf for the good in people and you will find it:)
I AM SO GLAD THAT WE STILL HAVE SOME GOOD AMERICANS.
RIGHT ON MEL.
Tis amazing how the average person is SO easily fooled.
You think Mel Gibson is a “good egg” – ?? A wife-beater? Anti-Semite? Drunk driver?
Wow – what would it take for you to think he’s a rotten egg?
Right on 777. We should start looking for good in people. Yo Mel if you read this. PEACE OF CHRIST MY FRIEND!!!!
I believe when Robert Downey Jr. was coming back, but couldn’t get work or insurance, Mel Gibson helped him.
Mel had a completely crazy father and hence is himself crazy. Like sean Penn u have to ignore eveything about the man and just watch the movie.
How many celebrities are stupid, annoying, disgusting etc.? If we rejected them all there’d be nothing to watch.
I’ve been wasted out of my mind and said some ridiculous, horrible s**t to friends and family — none of it true, or how I really felt — just madness and self-hatred and f**king stupidity. And I’ve said things just to hurt people sometimes…
Thank the heavens I’m not a movie star, and those that love me know how to forgive.
For all those people that want to burn Mel on their front lawn and keep the remains in their basement, locked away forever — U need to grow the f**k up. It’s a sad and lonely walk through life if you constantly disavow everyone that offends you.
Tell them they’re an a**hole, their behavior was TOTALLY unacceptable, what they said was painful and nasty…
And then MOVE THE F**K ON.
Good idea Jack. You’re an a**hole, your behavior is TOTALLY unacceptable and what you’ve said is callous, mean, painful and nasty.
Now YOU “move the f*ck on!”
Fail.
Nice try, though.
Like it or not, celebrities are held to a higher standard because of the life of privilege they lead and the effects their behavior can have on those witnessing it. We are all guilty of hurting others, intentional or not.
True, forgiveness is necessary. However, not wanting to see Mel in a movie, listen to Chris Brown, vote for a warmongerer, or eat at a restaurant that gave you bad service is not a sign of a lack of understanding, but acting on your convictions.
Choosing not to see a movie with Mel in it has nothing to do with a “sad and lonely life.”
“For all those people that want to burn Mel on their front lawn and keep the remains in their basement, locked away forever” Huh? Are you high now?
Jack. of all the blogs sports ,politics, religion and this stuff your answer is the most brutalish correct answer ive read. The reason i say that is because i have done the same things, and i truly wish i didnt. Lets move on and see some good movies
The Beaver looks like a good movie so why would anyone boo it? I can’t wait to see it.
I wonder how many agents will try and sign him?
No other director could have had his back like this or been his front person. If it’s a success, it’ll be because of Jodie Foster.
Jodie has always been a class act!
absolutely.! Foster is one in a million a gem
Mel has baggage like anyone in Hollywood has baggage. He was appropriately rebuked for it (unlike folks who say vile things about people that Hollywood already doesn’t like). Mel deserves his redemption like anyone else in Hollywood.
Forgive me if I am incorrect, but doesn’t he keep repeating the same bad behavior? Seems like he hasn’t learned from the rebuking (so to speak).
This was a well done article except for the dig of your last line which may be more telling about you than Mr. Gibson. I guess most people never do anything that they are ashamed of and wished hadn’t happened in retrospect. However, after seeing the film, I was very pleased with its outcome. Mr. Gibson has made some serious mistakes for whatever the reasons but may recoup his losses and get back on track. Let’s hope so, he is a talented man irrespective of his past doings.
Audience doesn’t boo Mel Givson is your lead?
Nikki, I will always love you baby-doll….
But..”..whether some in showbiz think he’s a scumbag…”
I mean, damn..now thats hard!
It isn’t just some in showbiz who think that this Jew hating, woman bashing, drunken driving thug is a scumbag you know.
He doesn’t hate the Jews any more that the Jews hate Goyim. Alcohol is a problem, but at least it’s legal. And as to woman bashing, this whole thing was a setup by a bunch of Hollywood types out to get him.
Go Mel Go!
I wonder about people who really need someone to hate. Perhaps we can make that into an opposite 60′s song: “don’t you want somebody to hate, don’t you NEED somebody to hate, you better find somebody to hate….” *sigh*
Right on. . .I very rarely watch TV anymore, and I never go to movies. I’m flat turned off by Hellywood. I found out that I don’t miss it either.
Obviously, You are a fan of Big Hollywood, Charlie Sheen and all that other trash. Who cares what you think.
Wow, so judgmental!
Careful Matt, with your description you are including most of the muslim males in this world except for the drunk driving part. But doesn’t your anger stem from the fact that he created a film that portrayed Christ in a positive light rather than a negative or blasphemous point of view?
Gee whiz, I didn’t know Mel was a “rapper.
hear hear. let’s not give this guy a free pass just because … well, why are these people giving him a free pass? i don’t see John Galliano coming back from his meltdown.
Oh, you mean like Charlie Sheen…
Good observation on Charlie Sheen, bubba.
Overall, Mel Gibson is an amazing actor and director. He made very poor choices and i think he should of fired his PR team five years ago, but Hollywood has this notion of forgiving and giving talented people second chances. So i think this film will bring Mel Gibson back into the positive spot light, and show his true talent.
He doesn’t have his matinee idol looks anymore. I could see him coming back big as a director, but as an actor? No way. It may be ageism or lookism or whatever, but leading men are required to be exceptionally handsome. Comedians and indie movie character actors are the only ones allowed to be not handsome.
mel gibson’s jew hating is awful and seems to have been passed down to him from his father, and mel for whatever reason stupidly clung to it rather than reject it, and the fighting with the baby momma also horrible. nevertheless, no less awful or horrible than lots of actors / musicians political views or personal lives. gibson’s talent is obvious. i’ll watch him if its good product. kanye freakin west still gets gigs on SNL after all his BS and racist mental patient rantings….
You said it. If Mel had been a minority no one would have made such a big deal out of his drunken rants.
Gibson made a lot of powerful enemies with ‘Passion of the Christ’ and they will shiv him every chance they get and twist the blade as long as possible.
Unfortunately, some things our parents impart us with are very difficult to shed. Funny how the mind works. What a horrible thing to do to your kid.
Ay, ay, ay. Two of my favorite films — “Braveheart” and “Patriot” — were pretty much torpedoed by Gibson’s dumbaxx anti-Jewish remarks and marital behavior. Geez. Some remarks are like a missile — once you launch them, good luck on getting them back before they hit something or someone.
Oh, the movie that won two Oscars was torpedoed? What planet are you living on? Or is it all about you? If you’ve got a problem with it, that settles it, huh?
You’re the nut not Mel.
I think Mel is MUCH closer to the characters he played in The Patriot and SIGNS then we know. In fact, to me, SIGNS is one my favorite movies…especially as a Christian. I love the “All things work together” message in the film. I think Mel needs to think more about that in his own personal life.
I have always thought that Mel is running from what his father supposedly stood for and ,at the same time, love and respect him as a son should.
Dude – Read the post before you rant.
And in any event, go back on your meds.
Liberals, particularly the hollywood liberals, are quick to cry racist and bigot when it comes to conservatives or non liberal independents. The funny thing is most of them are closet bigots. They assume Americans of African descent and Hispanics are incapable of handling things on their own. They always publicly point out that “there isn’t a bigoted bone in my body.” Well, last year I was at Disney walking along the hallway enroute to one on the many production office there. I was just behind a producer, who shall remain un-named, and three of his assistants. One assistant suggested that they consider a Hispanic for the role. Actually he said “Mexican.” The producer quiped that he didn’t want to hire a Mexican because it would be a waste of money. He added that if he were to hire “one” he could hire his maid for next to nothing. When he turned around, chuckling to the group, he noticed me and the conversation went dead silent. This particular producer was one of those that said he would never work with Mel Gibson after “The Passion Of The Christ.” Go figure.
Liberals? Conservatives? Come on. What the hell does politics have to do with any of this. I’m so sick and tired of people using places like this to go on some political rant.
Get over yourself.
Fail. Both Braveheart and and The Patriot were major successes. They were both released before Mel called a cop Sugartits and blamed the Jews for all the wars in the world.
Compared to Charlie Sheen, this guy’s a saint. I bet Mel is sighing a sigh of relief….
Anyway, I wwonder if Hollywood would have given him a pass on all the issues he’s had over the years had he not made the Passion…just wondering.
Gel, I had to scroll halfway down the page, to get to your reply. You were the first Charlie Sheen reference. I guess Charlie is no longer “Winning”
Good point, I think he really set himself up by making a controversial movie, then the anti-Semitic remarks to follow. Let’s say a well known white Hollywood actor made a movie depicting slavery, yet it went deep into the historic facts and perhaps some fiction regarding the Africans who were involved in selling slaves to whites. There is outrage in Hollywood and the race card is pulled from all directions calling for boycotts and that the actor/producer is a “racist”, however respected black historians concede that there is truth in the depictions of black Africans selling slaves to whites. The actor makes a ton of money off the film. Two years later he is heard using the “N” word in a drunken rant. What are people supposed to think?
Jodie Foster is a true friend. Mel Gibson is a talented guy, it is too bad that he gets crazy mean when he drinks. It is way past time for him to stop drinking.
Him, me and anyone else that pops the cork when they get the chance.
Jodie Foster has shown real class as a human being, a professional, and a friend.
Probably the most sane post yet.
The alcohol does horrible things to many, especially later in life.
If he drops the sauce, and genuinely works on himself, you may see some serious contrition on his part. Until then, he will more than likely remain tabloid fodder.
