EXCLUSIVE: The Hub, the new cable channel targeting kids and their families, is expected to announce tomorrow at its upfront that it has picked up a new series starring the quirky rock band The Aquabats. The series, which is expected to receive a 13-episode order, hails from FremantleMedia Enterprises. Christian Jacobs, Scott Schultz, and Jon Berrett’s The Magic Store, the company behind the Nickelodeon hit Yo Gabba Gabba!, is producing. Jacobs and Schultz created the Aquabats series, and Jacobs will also star as he is one of the foundi
ng members and the vocalist of The Aquabats. Formed in 1994 in Orange County, CA, The Aquabats are known for their mythology, with the band members going by their superhero pseudonyms and wearing matching superhero costumes as they go on a quest to save the world from evil through music. The band’s current members include The MC Bat Commander (Jacobs), Crash McLarson (Chad Larson), Jimmy the Robot (James Briggs), Ricky Fitness (Ricky Falomir) and Eagle “Bones” Falconhawk (Ian Fowles). CAA-repped The Magic Store recently received a fourth season renewal from Nickelodeon for Yo Gabba Gabba!, which was picked up for 13 episodes.
Also tomorrow, The Hub, a joint venture of Discovery Communications and Hasbro, is expected to announce a renewal of its scary anthology series R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour: The Series. The second-season pickup is said to be for 18 episodes. The network had no comment.

This is just plain awesome.
What about “Dan Vs.”???
Or “My Little Pony”???????
Aquabats RULE! This is long overdue.
sounds pretty cool.
6 mths before this channel is turned into a feed of a surveillance cam of Oprah’s dog’s wardrobe.
Has it really been doing that bad for a channel that’s in much less homes than Nick/CN/Disney?
It’s about time!!! I am TOTALLY looking forward to this!!!
I used to go see the “Aquabats” perform for free at venues all over Huntington Beach with “Reel Big Fish” and even “No Doubt” back in the mid 90s. Great to see their tenacity pay off.
Ska. Ska band.
No, rock. Rock band. Although, more “New Wave pop punk band”. The Aquabats haven’t played ska for over a decade, which is why they’re still culturally relevant.
WOO! This is great for the ‘Bats! 8D
Even though I didn’t really like the pilot much, I’ll feel obligated to be a fan. Who knows, maybe I’ll end up liking it. If it features their music heavily, I probably will. XDD
Am I the only one or does this look completely stupid? My kids dig the Nick & Disney fare — I suspect they’ll look at the Aquadorks and think, “This is what results when a Wiggle gets drunk at the Company Christmas party and bangs a Teletubby.”
No offense.
Hrrm, your kids think about drinking and banging people? Wow. you’re right… maybe this show isn’t for them… it’s age appropriate.
Don’t listen to them Aquabats! We love you and your silliness!!
