NBC today released the first promo for its American Idol rival, singing competition The Voice hosted by Carson Daly and starring music coaches Christina Aguilera, Cee-Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. If you were wondering how The Voice would be different from the other singing reality competition, the clip holds one clue: the coaches judge the contestants with their backs to them. As intimidating facing judges is, facing the backs of their chairs will probably make aspiring singers feel even more uncomfortable. The Voice premieres April 26.

X Factor is going to blow Idol and The Voice away. True, The Voice of Holland beats The X Factor. However, that version of The X Factor doesn’t have Simon Cowell as one of the judges.
The Voice, Idol, America’s Got Talent, X Factor, puh-lease!
In a very short time, everyone in the US will not only be eligible for a talent show, everyone will win one at some point.
Warhol was right.
I actually like that twist. Singing with their backs turned. Ryan Seacrest totally came along and drank Carson Daly’s milkshake. He was supposed to be the next Dick Clark. Maybe, this will be Carson’s revenge. Ryan’s more likeable tho. I don’t watch any of that shit tho. When I think about I kind of like Ryan Seacrest better than I thought I did. Like even if someone is being disingenuous I like my ass kissed and Ryan seems like he’d make you feel good about yourself and be like HEY MAN! Carson would be more stand offish and reserved.
Fact… talent will be pre screened by someone, probably a 22 year old casting associate at your local mall. And yes, one of the boxes he will check off on his production company survey will be “is he or she hot/ sexy/ cute?”
That isn’t going to work. Poor NBC…still trying.
I thought America already realized that having a good personality and stage presence is more important that having a good voice. Are they expecting these people who are ugly with good voices to have real careers or just be the best karaoke singers in LA?
Great idea. A show based purely on how someone sounds rather than stage presence-so it’ll do well on radio? This is television. Remember the 70′s?-sure before MTV and the internet. You used to be able to make money in the past from records and stage appearances were just loss leaders to sell the records. Now with hardly any records sales its all about selling the concert tickets. Bad timing for this show i.e. Pia Toscano. I predict this show will tank. Wasn’t there a lot of hype a few years ago about The One-which was the least popular show in ABC’s history and had to be cancelled promptly.
