United Talent Agency today signed actress Meg Ryan. The actress had been repped by CAA. UTA will handle her as an actress and filmmaker in TV and movies. She’s preparing to make her directorial debut on the ensemble drama Little Black Train, which Wendy Finerman and Nathalie Marciano will produce. She last starred in 2009′s Serious Moonlight.

Bad day for CAA
roll on UTA roll on
Good for UTA. They are the only agency that can grow talent. WME has good people as does CAA but if you are hungry and don’t want to get lost in a cluster fuck of writers and directors UTA is a far better place to be. I was at WME and got screwed by internal agendas of certain agents. Thankfully I have a strong manager who told me what was going on. Oh, I’m at UTA. and I’m very happy.
Did you even read the post on whom they signed? None of your points apply to this signing.
Meg is a decent actress but I just can’t get over her new face. No matter what I see her in all I can do is concentrate on the face and not the story.
After all of the injections of Botox and fillers Meg Ryan has become a joke to movie goers and Hollywood insiders. Her best bet is to show her age and gain back some respect. Do an Oprah interview discussing that journey and pitch a female driven drama to TNT.
Beyond those options her career is over.
It’s embarrassing that UTA’s PR Department would even release this signing to the media. Meg Ryan has not been significant since she blew her “America’s Sweetheart” image out of the water by having an affair with Russell Crowe waaaaaay back in 2000 when they shot ‘Proof of Life.’
Not a single hit in the past 11 years and, as evidenced by the plastic surgery and botox all over her face, she hasn’t gotten any younger since then.
Frankly, she seems more like a Paradigm kind of client.
That is nonsense. Everyone knows by now it was her ex-husband who ruined their marriage with his constant cheating. She just made poor choices picking movies. It’s good to see her working on new projects!
uta takes all the scraps the other majors dont want they have no taste
Well if the directing career doesn’t take off, shebhas 3 options:
1. When Grampa Harry met Granma Sally…
2. Starring in her own reality show “Botox Gone Wild”
3. A sit-com that will last eight episodes in order to get her appear at the network upfronts.
The most likely outcome…Door #3
Sara, Meg’s face has dropped back to almost normal levels. The woman’s not a great actress but she does have some talent. Maybe it’s time for her to take the lead in a smart TV series. Not a sitcom either. I’d like to see her play a tough bitch. Something like The Closer, Harry’s Law or that Holly Hunter show that’s not on anymore. Shake things up.
I just saw her the other day. She looks beautiful and you don’t have to be so cruel. She is a talented actress. Let her be and stop the hate. It is so distasteful.
Is she still doing Lives of the Saints with 50 Cent? Amazing script. Excited to see her in such a tough role.
UTA does grow talent. CAA steals talent. WMEE is screwy with talent and ICM has lost their talent.
It seems they each have their places. Perfect market system in a food chain.
I remember her dumping her hubby for a movie and its leading man that completely backfired…
It’s over, Rover.
“UTA Signs Meg Ryan”…why? No really, why? She doesn’t bother me but let’s be objective here: she hasn’t had anything approaching a hit in years; she’s too old to be a sex symbol anymore (sad but true, this isn’t France); she’s had waaaaaaay too much work done to ever convince in serious drama, and even if she hadn’t she’s not nearly a good enough dramatic actress to succeed (again, sad but true). No A-list directors are pounding on her door, a bad facelift can totally ruin even a talented actresses career (Dunaway, Kathleen Turner etc). She could carry a sitcom, and I remember her saying in an interview back in her cover-of-Vanity-Fair days that she wouldn’t mind doing one, but that’s it. Her biggest flaw as a performer was always her overwhelming vanity and that hasn’t changed. Remember her absurdly elaborate coiffure in Proof of Life? Where she was meant to be at her wits end because her husband was being held for ransom? I laughed every time she came on screen with her perfect make-up and high-maintenance hair. She’s scaled-back all the surgery but too little, too late. Honestly, why would you bother?
I’ll have what she’s having.
I think she is very talented, sure the lips she got done were a bit much, but she does look better these days! I have loved many of her movies, and at least she did rom coms better than kids today!
Her career went off the tracks when she moved into edgy roles, and Serious Moonlight was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. It would be nice to see UTA bring her back to the light, sweet roles that made her famous. No Jane Fonda evil stepmother romcom roles, please!
I’m surprised by people saying she wasn’t much of an actress – her comic timing was terrific in Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, and even a few of the lesser ones like French Kiss or the underrated Addicted to Love. In later films she gave way to kind of cute tics, but still, how many other actresses have been allowed to both be beautiful AND funny? She was never just an Andie Macdowell straight man in those comedies. Her “serious” roles were more hit and miss, but Courage Under Fire was a very good film.
But let’s not kid ourselves: this wasn’t just a botox case. She screwed up her face with cheek implants so that at points her face looked like a kabuki mask. Had she allowed herself to more naturally age — or at least not do such drastic work — it’d be easier for her to transition into more character-type roles – if not Meryl Streep type roles then certainly the kind of roles that Diane Keaton and Susan Sarandon did through their fifties and now into her sixties.
If it’s true that she’s had the surgery scaled back, she should do not a network sitcom but an HBO or Showtime one.
She’s doing “Lives of the Saints” and the rom-com “Admissions” with Kevin Bacon, in addition to the movie that she’s directing, so she’s busy. Signing Meg is a coup for UTA. Back off, haters.
“Lives of the Saints” is an amazing script and yes, she is doing that. She is also exec-producing and starring in the rom-com “Admissions.”
I see her in Soho all the times. I think she lives here now? She looks amazing. No signs of plastic surgery whatsoever.
ADMISSIONS is a great script; read it last year. Excited to see the movie. Meg’s return to romantic comedy.
She is a marvelous comedic actress, there are too few of them out there. She can also handle drama, but more in the vein of “When a Man Loves a Woman” and not “In the Cut.” She could have used a “Cold Mountain” or “The Blind Side” type film to let her balance comedy and drama but I don’t know what good roles she’s been turning down that could have bolstered her career in the last decade, I just know “In the Cut,” “Against the Ropes” and sadly, “The Women” were high profile but not smart gambles.
She would do well to court Nancy Meyers or get back with Nora Ephron (I could have seen her in “Julie and Julia,”) and/or Tom Hanks (one has only to see “The Terminal” to know that Hanks’ chemistry with Ryan was unique and impossible to replicate). She also should push harder to do an HBO film or miniseries if she’s not in the mood for a full-on TV series, or a Broadway play to remind people of her acting chops.
Wow. Who are you people? Meg Ryan has brought a lot of joy into people’s lives through the years, and that takes talent. It also isn’t easily forgotten. Your flippant comments display your ignorance. Keep it up Meg!
It saddens me to see so many rude and ignorant people making ill informed comments about Meg Ryan on here.
Sure, she’s made some mistakes in her life but who hasn’t?
She’s an incredibly talented actress and I for one will be glad to see her back.
