30 Rock star Alec Baldwin is known for shooting from the hip and dropping bombshells when cornered by reporters at various events. He did it again last night in an interview to Vulture at the National Dance Institute’s annual fund-raising gala. “Next year is our last year of the show,” he was quoted as saying. “Our contracts are expired (at the end of next season), and Tina (Fey) is gonna have a big career directing films and writing.” Reps for NBC and 30 Rock creator/executive producer/star Fey declined to comment, but sources close to the situation called Baldwin’s comments “total nonsense.” There have been no discussions between NBC and the 30 Rock‘s producers about ending the show after the the upcoming sixth season. As for Baldwin, he has been vocal about his plan to leave the show after Season 6 when his contract expires, mirroring the move made this spring by The Office star Steve Carell.

I absolutely love 30 Rock and always have, but I think it’s a good idea to set the end date. It burns bright and fast, so…
Yeah, how bout we just end it in two weeks…
this season has SUCKED!
except that it’s been awesome
yes the post was valid, bar the fact that 30 rock remains a pretty deliciously well made morsel that I personally love dearly – bar that – fine, the season’s crap. except it’s not.
To be fair I think they should just wrap up after next season, like he said contracts are up and the show will just ultimately become irrelevant. I have watched since day one and it is sheer brilliance but some episodes are just not great and loose me half way in. The making fun of the NBC, corporate culture thing has run thin and its time for NBC and its comedy slate to start fresh and rely less on these SNL performers and their transitions in to niche comedy. Love Tina Fey, Lorne, and this show but all good things should come to an end.
In my opinion, Alec Baldwin’s departure would be far worse for “30 Rock” than Steve Carell’s will be for “The Office.”
I have a feeling Baldwin is telling the truth. It’ll be time for all involved. Fey plays her hand in Vanity Fair’s Proust questionnaire.
the show is weaker now than earlier seasons, but still has enough bright spots each episode to keep me coming back. if baldwin leaves, the show is done. he is the best part. now, if they can jettison jane krakowski, that would be an upgrade.
we get it. you can sing. now shut the hell up.
If you don’t get why Krakowski is hilarious and integral to the entire world of the show, you don’t really get the show.
Oh, I get the show. But that still doesn’t make her funny.
Alec is always talking nonsense.
This was the same guy who said he was retiring and that It’s Complicated was gonna be his final movie. Cue 2011, and he signs onto Rock of Ages and (briefly) Men in Black 3.
Dude always talks irrationally.
The show should end it’s becoming less funny what was once fresh has become stale and repetitive and at times obnoxious and arrogant. Alec should do what he always said he wanted to do he should run for senate or for congress.
Think wrapping it up next year makes a lot of sense. The last couple seasons have seen a major fall off in quality and they don’t want to be Entourage or The West Wing. If Alec goes it would be impossible to carry on. Why not go out while people still care about you.
What’s odd about 30 Rock is they still have some very funny moments, but every episode now has a half dozen of really cringeworthy bits. They should quit while they’re ahead.
No one cares, the ratings for NBC’s Thursday night line up are in the crapper. NBC has ruinned the the night they ruled for years, it’ll take years to fix this mess.
