EXCLUSIVE: Following her memorable turn on Fox’s medical drama House this season, Amber Tamblyn is staying in business with Fox and House executive producer Katie Jacobs. Tamblyn has teamed with Jacobs and The Wire co-creator Ed Burns for a drama project that would star Tamblyn as a young teacher in the world of public education in America. The project, which has received a script commitment from the network, is being produced by 20th Century Fox TV.
Jacobs came up with the idea for the drama and pitched it to Tamblyn while the two were working together on House. Tamblyn loved it, and the two then brought in Burns, who was a public teacher in Baltimore (as well as a police detective) before he segued to writing. The three developed the project together, with Burns attached to write and Jacobs to direct. The show was set up at Fox and 20th TV through Jacobs’ joint overall deal with the network and studio. Jacobs and Burns are executive producing, with Tamblyn co-executive producing. Also expected to be part of the show is Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Tony-winning writer-star of the Broadway musical In the Heights. Miranda, also a former teacher, is friends with Jacobs and appeared in the two-hour sixth-season premiere of House, which she directed. On the feature side, Tamblyn, repped by WME and Hyler Management, has acquired the rights to Janet Fitch’s book Paint It Black and is writing a big-screen adaptation. Jacobs is with CAA and Management 360, Burns with WME.

For anyone who saw the fourth (possibly the best) season of The Wire, you know what Ed Burns has already captured in the public school system. I don’t really care for Amber T, but I am very curious about this one.
Congrats to Amber! She is a brilliant actress and this sounds like it can be a hit!
Wow. This is an incredible trio. Agree about the 4th season of the Wire. Truly cannot wait to see whatever comes of this.
“Memorable turn on House”? I usually like Amber T., but she was awful on House. Her character was annoying and her acting was painful to watch. This whole season of House has been a bust. Perhaps it’s time to move on.
oh phooey…you just didn’t get it…Master’s character was supposed to be annoying. you move on…
Kudos to Amber! She’s smart, talented and takes no prisoners…just what a good teacher needs to be.
Hey, if she needs any animals in her classroom, I have plenty. Some of them were in my classroom when I was a teacher!
Way to go Mr. Cartah!
As long as it’s not an “inner city” school I’m cool with it. God knows the hood doesn’t have the monopoly on terrible public schools.
I like Amber T and LOVED The Wire.
this should be great… amber t is a wonderful actress, and we need a show about schools right now…
Amber Tamblyn’s turn on HOUSE was an injection of fresh air! Great job and will be missed if she’s not part of next season’s cast. Don’t let these few guttersnipes detract from a very talented actress!
What a talented and creative trio! I can’t wait to see what they come up with! I love Amber T and have been a fan since “Joan of Arcadia.”
I am so excited about this! Sounds like it could be REALLY great! I loved “Joan of Arcadia” and think Amber Tamblyn has already proven she can carry a show. Plus, there doesn’t seem to be anything like this on TV right now. Can’t wait!
So sad to see her leave house! I can’t stand thirteen… I was hoping since she is getting movie deals that she’d quit… the sooner the better!
This is the best news! Ms. Tamblyn is a natural talent and lights up the screen wherever she appears. I can’t wait to see the new show and be WOWED yet again by her on-the-mark acting and her own personal inner beauty which makes her characters shine. Love and great luck with your new projects, Amber. Congratulations!
Wow I am just wondering how much KJ used her position at House to keep Amber T in the limelight as a set up to this new project. I know there were a whole bunch of House fans who were perplexed by the amount of air time she got as opposed to more established cast members.
Just seems slightly ‘yuuccky” to me.
Amber Tamblyn AND Lin Manuel Miranda every week?! Hells yeah!
Amber is beautiful. I’ll watch anything she’s in. The anti-Heigl. LOL.
How is Joan Hyler these days? anyone know?
Huge Ed Burns fan. And, for that matter, Amber Tamblyn, a brilliant, sensitive and versatile actress.
