EXCLUSIVE: The Social Network’s Armie Hammer is in early talks to star opposite Johnny Depp in the title role of The Lone Ranger, the Gore Verbinski-directed film for Disney. I expect he’ll soon be shouting “Hi Yo Silver! Away!” on horseback, alongside his trusted sidekick, Tonto. Deadline told you first that Hammer would get the role of the prince in Relativity Media’s Snow White movie. Justin Haythe wrote The Lone Ranger and Jerry Bruckheimer is producing. Months ago,on this website, I predicted ARMIE HAMMER was going to emerge as a true star in Hollywood! Hollywood is changing and its going back to the “Machine” days.
After seeing Armie Hammer on ‘ Gossip Girl ‘ and his wonderful scene stealing scenes in ‘ The Social Network ‘ ( he is the most watchable person in that movie ) , I also knew he was going to blow-up. But, I don’t like his recent film choices ( besides J Edgar ) , the lackluster Snow White film and now ‘ Lone Ranger ‘ ( even though it is with Johnny Depp). I just prefer him to be more selective- like Leonardo Di Caprio . I have to give him much credit, Armie is going to go far in this business because of his good looks, strong charisma, his ability to express intelligence on camera, and his professionalism. Also, his speaking voice is to die for.
no doubt the hate will rain down but i think this is a good call. he’s a solid actor with a dudley do-right look about him and is at a point in his career that matches the “origin” take on the character. he will play the part well, he has more commercial charisma than any other name i’ve seen, and he won’t upstage johnny. i like it.
He is still Morgan from The CW to me. But the CW does have the best looking guys. He doesn’t bother me.

Most likely an unpopular vote but I can’t stand Armie Hammer. What about someone like Jensen Ackles? He has a fanbase already and just more or less showed how amazing he’d be in a western thanks to the latest Supernatural episode “Frontierland”.

Ethnicity and skin color aside, he’s a good actor.
I’m sure Armie will hold his own in the Lone Ranger. Any role is a great role if you’re teamed w/ Depp. His popularity will skyrocket. I think there are a lot of jealous unemployed actors out there.
I really can’t see this as a good match, I think Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Robert Downey JR, Javier Bardem or even George Clooney would be a much better match.
