OK, he still is credited as an executive producer on The Office and The Biggest Loser, but Ben Silverman hasn’t been hanging around NBC headquarters much since his short reign as NBC co-chairman ended in July 2009. But according to the New York Times, Silverman’s Electus — his production company with IAC — is set to announce a deal Monday with the network to produce a primetime reality show titled Fashion Star that will air in 2012. The show, to be hosted by supermodel Elle Macpherson, will see designers from various fields compete for a contract that will put their fashion lines in retail stores. The Times said viewers will be able to buy the contestants’ designs online, with NBC getting a share of sales. Magical Elves, which produced Project Runway when it was on Bravo, will co-produce the new elimination series.

Why is Bob Greenblatt doing business with this idiot? Doesn’t he know about Ben’s bad run at NBC?
White guys taking care of (failed) white guys.
Case in point: Ben Silverman and the execs at NBC
And you wonder why Hollywood is so lame. The same half-baked execs get re-admitted to The Club. Aaah, membership certainly has all the privileges. For the record, Silverman is the Poster Child for the Peter Principle at work — that one can rise to the level of their incompetence.
At least they now have Bob Greenblatt running NBC and he’s reportedly a nice and smart guy.
I agree. This is all about TV failures looking out each other.
Lemme guess: failed black guy? Bitter about how “prejudice” that Hollywod is? Know your facts before you make a fool of yourself in front of everyone. Ben has produced hit after hit for virtually every network in town, particularly NBC. That Bob is in business with him bodes well for the new administration. As for you: go back to your life and make it count. Instead of whining about why all the white guys are getting so many shots.
Ben is a solid guy. Way too many haters.
Barry Diller made 2000% return on his investment in Ben’s last Company over 4 or 5 years when it was sold for $125million. The Reality is Ben Knows how to monetize & make money for the right people & he is hungry & going for it. Ben has $100M from IAC behind him how do we make money with him?
Why is Ben such a good producer, but a terrible network executive?
I’ll tell you: because Ben was born to make people say YES. And executives are there to say NO. Simple.
Don’t be a hater cuz you aint a player…good for ben!
Well, that should be fun to watch (and I don’t mean the show).
Is it just me or are fashion reality shows seriously played out…?
This show just sounds like a bimbo delivery vehicle for Ben Silverman.
Ben is married you moron. Anyone with a negative word to say about the guy has likely never met him or anyone else for that matter in Hollywood. A lot of you people who can’t break into the business spend way too much time on this website, so you can at least feel somewhat connected and tell your mommies and daddies that you are “in” Hollywood. The only pathetic person worthy of scrutiny is Y-O-U.
Agreed. Ben is a great guy. He’s been very successful. Any other talk is nonsense.
Thank you.
Another Project Runway wannabee? a gamble for a network too—-not sure the audience is there, unless the designers stab each other with scissors or drink on the job!
This is as original as that new singing competition show where the judges turn their chairs around!!!
Way to go, NBC — we continue to be mystified that you can develop such amazing comedies, and…nothing else. (except for SVU, but that was created over a decade ago so you’re just drafting off Dick Wolf’s relevant period)
Ben was only successful at being a middle man in bringing hit foreign shows over here. now that gig is up because the rights owners realised they didn’t need a middle man. love him or hate him, the fact is Ben has never produced anything original.
Never produced anything original?? Have you never heard of Biggest Loser or The Tudors?
You’re so right, guys. NBC’s ratings have gotten so much better after Ben was kicked out. And this season’s new shows are magnifique!
