Bradley Cooper is in early negotiations to play the lead role in Relativity Media and Edward R. Pressman’s reinvention of The Crow, the 1994 adaptation of the James O’Barr comic book series that Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) has been tapped to direct. Cooper would play the hero portrayed in the original film by Brandon Lee. The project is expected to begin production in the fall. Bradley next appears in Warner Bros’ The Hangover Part II, which opens May 26.

That is a really bad idea, Cooper. Fire your reps now!
Are you kidding? Cooper should sign a life-long contract with his reps. If they got him this role, they can probably get him any role. X-Factor needs a female judge?
I know Relativity is the studio equivalent of the short bus but has anyone there actually read the comic or seen the original film?
One problem: Brandon Lee was almost as awesome as his father. Bradley Cooper fought like a wuss even after watching Bruce Lee on TV and taking NZT.
The strangest casting I have ever heard of…. I like Cooper but– this is ridiculous.
V
Oh goodie…another remake. We don’t get enough of those these days.
You know that script “Hamlet,” by that bald British guy named Bill Somethingorother? Remake of a play from 200 years earlier.
Whether or not something should be remade is a dilemma that was resolved, literally, hundreds of years ago. Now, the remake of The Crow is highly unlikely to have the staying power of the Bard’s own remake of what’s known as The Ur-Hamlet, but that doesn’t mean that remakes are anything but a legitimate creative path.
@ Rob: Do you realize how much that comment makes you look like a buffoon?
It is one thing to adapt stage plays and literary works that stood the test of time to the big screen and reinterpret them.
It is another thing to reinterpret a graphic novel or movie series that is not that old.
Enough of the reboots of movies and TV series. There is a lot of unadapted great source material.
Are you really comparing “The Crow” to “Hamlet”? Either you are a troll or a culturally ignorant putz.
And the remakes are of films that aren’t even old. Pass.
this is as big of a miscast as i have ever seen
Note to Cooper: just because your representation is pushing you for EVERYTHING, don’t believe it.
Look at Gerard Butler.
Absolutely fucking not. Brandon Lee owned that role and remaking The Crow is a terrible idea.
This is disrespectful to Brandon Lee and everyone in Hollywood. Terrible idea. File this under things we wish weren’t true
I completely agree. Hollywood seems to have forgotten that Brandon Lee GAVE HIS LIFE to make this film. Remaking it 17 years later in what is sure to be a capitalist revenue-generating scam can not and will not ever be considered a respectful gesture by anyone who loved the original film. While not surprised, I am still disgusted. Who is this fool to think he can play Eric Draven anywhere close to as well as the late Brandon Lee?
Bradley Cooper in Goth make-up? What the hell?
I’m still heated by this… Its like someone replacing Heath in Batman. This is the worst thing ever!!! Someone has to make sure this doesn’t happen. The movie isn’t even old!
That is actually a hilarious idea. I take it they’re going for a Brady Bunch/Beverly Hillbillies/Batman 3-style remake?
This hurts me, im a huge Crow fan, just them making a remake hurts especially knowing dear brandon lee died just when they where almost done with filming. And Now their wanting Bradley to be the lead??? I don’t have nothing with brad, but GET THE FUCK OUT!!! This sounds horrible, I can’t see him being the crow. But its hollywood, and they don’t care what people think.
This is just really bad lazy casting. The role of the Crow is at odds with what Bradley Cooper brings to the table. I hope Cooper and his representatives realize this is a really bad match. I highly doubt Fresnadillo had him on his short list, but he’s a director for hire, so has no clout. I’m sure it comes from the producers and studios who have absolutely no imagination and just follow the hype and box office to offset risk in other territories. Bradley Cooper isn’t a dark and serious persona on screen. Brooding silence isn’t his forte and will never be. They need to find someone with a quiet looming presence if the script has any similarities in tone to the original.
Another needless remake. Hasn’t Arthur taught a lesson here?
David Tobin, well said. Plus when I think of “dark” Bradley Cooper comes to mind! HAHA. This is insane for so many reasons.
Looks like Hollywood can’t come up with an original idea if it smacked the in a face with a camera.
Why not Ed Helms?
Is this just because of Limtless?
Oh no, Bradley Cooper is doomed.
This may not be the best career movie Bradley. It was an obscure comic even back in the 90s. It only profited off of Brandon Lee’s death, and the sequels are laughable. You need more original material like “Limitless” to build your movie star credibility. Apparently your representation only cares about their commission. I know your reading this Bradley. Don’t “Jonah Hex” yourself.
NO NO NO NO! THE LESSER CRIME COMPARED TO THIS CASTING IS RELEASING THE ORIGINAL IN 3D! IT WOULD AT LEAST STILL BE THE WAY THE CROW SHOULD ALWAYS BE!
Agree it’s an odd casting choice, but then again there were mixed reactions with Heath playing the Joker. We will see.
I’m a huge fan of this graphic novel and the original film. This graphic novel is the graphic novel that got into graphic novels. I guard Eric Draven’s memory like a dead brother.
Here’s the bottom line: they got the the right director, no question. He will preserve the original’s gritty, gothic, unrelenting vibrance.
Cooper is an unexpected and INSPIRED choice to fill the shoes of Brandon Lee, an actor with range and movie star charisma. He showed he can eat up the screen and he hasn’t come close to his ceiling yet. He brings talent, integrity, and emotional range that will make Dravin breathe again. We’re going to look into his eyes and see the pain of the loss of his one true love and feel it, which is what the character and the film needs to really work on an emotional level. The emotion of Draven’s loss and the gothic sensibility of the filmmaking is what set the original apart from all other graphic novels. The Crow was never super high concept, beneath the aesthetics this is a primal story of love, loss and revenge.
I’m really happy with this choice, and, if the script is right, for the first time, very, very excited for this film.
I do hope they bring Michael Wincott back in some capacity. He was amazing.
Bradley Cooper can’t fight. Even on NZT and memories of Bruce Lee movies. What a coincidence he replaces Brandon Lee, who actually looks good kicking some a**.
