Breaking Bad‘s Bryan Cranston will play the mayor in Rock of Ages, the Adam Shankman-directed adaptation of the Broadway musical. He’s the husband of an Anita Bryant-like advocate who wants to ban rock and roll. That role’s played by Catherine Zeta-Jones and both were created specifically for the movie. He joins a cast that includes Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Diego Boneta and Julianne Hough.

Shankman can put every star in Hollywood in this . It’s still a bomb . The broadway show is a dud
Yeah, its a dud its only on its 2nd year selling out every night with companies in toronto, australia, a national tour and one opening up in London. Good call on the “dud”..
Wow. “Dud,” huh? You really sound both sophisticated and sassy. You must be, well, lemme guess? An out-of-work assistant?
This movie will work for one reason: people will go to see Cruise in a musical.
But thanks for your erudite depiction of events to come. We can all learn so much from you.
Oh please, the Broaday show is fun, and opened to raves. It’s been playing for over 2 years already. This film sounds just as fun.
They should have cast Julia Roberts. I’ve always wanted to see Tom Cruise do a movie with her. They are both incredible actors and it would be amazing to see them bounce off each other in a film.
Just what Cruise needs — to sing UP to Julia Roberts. In a movie with rock music I don’t really want to hear her raucous laugh.
More poor casting choices from this project.
Ummm.. the musical is supposed be taking place in the 1980s with the main characters in their 20s with a few older bit part characters- bit parts being the operative word.
However, they should get their award show nomination speeches ready. Because it looks like they are going to sweep next year’s Razzies.
My grandma is psyched for this movie! hip hip huzzah!
