Former Good Morning America executive producer Susan Winston will be taking over CBS’ daytime talk show The Talk as executive producer. She will replace Brad Bessey, who recently announced he will be leaving the talk show after the end of its freshman season but will assist with the transition. In addition to Winston, Sara Gilbert, who developed The Talk, also serves as an executive producer along with John Redmann.
The Talk, the first network daytime talk show to successfully premiere in nearly 10 years, has already been renewed for next season. Hosted by Julie Chen, Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete and Leah Remini, it has averaged an OK 2.18 million viewers, a 1.0/6 rating in women 25-54 and 0.8/5 in women 18-49. Since 2009, Winston, has been executive producer of the AMC talk show In the House With Peter Bart and Peter Guber. Under her own banner, she created and executive produced network, cable, syndicated, and web-based projects including daily daytime talk show The Other Half. She also has served as executive producer of CBS Morning News, the syndicated Jury Duty and TLC’s Untold Stories of the ER.

Susan is a class act. THE TALK is lucky to have her.
Without Leah & Holly the Talk is doomed!
tune in to watch a sinking ship shouldnt fix something thats not broken ………..My opinion all you need for the Talk
is Leah,Holly, Mrs O
I love the women they have on there now, heard Holly was leaving and I really liked her and also Leah and Mrs. O. Julie and Sarah, I hope you dont lose any of them.
i agree!
never heard of any of the shows mentioned much less of this woman….
1st show of the Talk was a total disaster without Leah and Holly….sorry folks…won’t be watching!!!!
Hmmm…I don’t know if this is a good thing. The Talk is a more mom and entertainment focused version of The View so the format is a winner but the hosts as a whole do not mesh well.
The wooden Julie Chen, the helium voiced annoyance Sharon Osbourne, the mild to boring Sara Gilbert, the likable Holly Robinson-Peete, the obnoxious “i’m screaming so that must mean i’m funny” Leah Remini who helps every conversation lose focus are making The Talk seem more like A Lot Of Talk as it’s lacking focus and substance.
Losing Osbourne and Remini are the first steps and adding someone more genial and likable is a better option. Ali Wentworth, Bonnie Hunt, someone of that nature.
Given that Winston was involved in the trainwreck of cheese call The Other Half I think we’re sadly in for more of the same for this welfare knock-off of The View.
Keep watching. Susan will work her magic
I believe the fact that Julie Chen is also Mrs. Les Moonves is all you need to know about this “successful” show being renewed…
Do people check references anymore? There’s a reason Susan hasn’t worked for years and had to switch careers to be a therapist. She is absolutely crazy. Maybe she was good in the 70′s but as someone who witnessed her bipolar antics on The Other Half, I can tell you she will implode at The Talk. Maybe she has mellowed in her sixties but she made our staff miserable. Even Dan Funk had to sever ties with her. Really odd choice for CBS.
So you were the one who hoarded all the Craft Service.
To whom this “plaguing issue” seems to severely concern:
I am sorry to say my dear Susan Winston aficionado, but your glowing comment absolutely reeks of acute jealousy. The stinky waft of your envy smells so bad that it has seemed to seep through the liquid crystal pores of my laptop computer screen leaving a rancid stench that makes me cringe with profound sorrow for your unrequited spite for this undeserving woman. Yeah yeah yeah, pull out all the big guns – bipolar this, cougar producer that… Hate to break it to yuh bud, but she landed a hot job – one that your more than astounding credentials failed to award you. So while you spend your time contemplating your navel, picking your private parts, and posting needlessly malicious comments on Deadline.com in a desperate attempt to give yourself import, Susan will be embarking on yet another promising journey in the land of TV. While I know that my sympathy is obviously misdirected, I can’t help but feel sorry for you as you have so nicely exhibited your “odd” cravings for self-aggrandizement and even “odd”-er means of satiating these desires through your anonymous verbal relegation of someone who I would assume to be your past employer. For your own sake, I hope your vicious remarks helped your achieve some sense of self-worth. Your uncanny ability to make a fool out of yourself has “odd”-ly enough provided me with some entertainment and the means of defining exactly what kind of person I do not want to end up like. I hope you have a great ensuing year, years, or even rest of your life, sitting in the depressing confines of your dingy office posting mean comments about people who are a lot more successful than you will ever be. Goodnight and good luck, child.
two weeks.
I have no idea who you are, but Susan is the most grounded person I know. And she has never left the TV industry. She got a degree in therapy and I worked alongside her at a Free clinic where she donated 20 hours a week in addition to full time producing job. Your vial accusations sound like unfounded jealousy. Find out who she really is and then lock yourself in a closet – forever!
Rearranging chairs on the Titanic blah blah blah
I just rechecked my calendar to make sure today isn’t April Fool’s Day. This is a joke right? Susan Winston? ABC, NBC and all the syndicators are laughing right now.
So you say Susan? And we all say Jess? Baby girl, you must be the queen of the entertainment world. But while you are out making waves in the biz, take care of some cognitive necessities. April Fools Day was not the day you made your highly stupid comment. And we’re all very proud that you have to check your calendar twice a day. Rock on!
LOL!!! Well The Other Half was certainly a great talk show! And she worked on GMA over 30 years ago, so she will have lots of fresh ideas! What a brilliant choice CBS!
I have a fresh idea for you. Try your best to look like Gwen Stefani, and when that fails, eat a lot of ice cream as you watch Susan’s show.
Couldn’t they find someone better or more current? They must be on a tight budget.
Jeff my main man. Everyone is on a tight budget these days. Nice discovery though.
I think everyone is on a tight budget. Its called a recession. But good point.
Her background in psycotherapy will be helpful dealing with all of those difficult personalities. I think her maturity as a senior citizen will better serve CBS’s older audience. Good luck to her!
Age has mellowed Susan. She has a reputation for being irrational and difficult but I think that is from 20 to 30 years ago when she was actually working in the business. I think her coming out of hibernation is a fantastic choice for a struggling show.
Oh havent you heard? the show isnt struggling thats why its been renewed for another year!
Yeah Audrina get with the program. It sounds like you have been doing some hibernating yourself.
She was EP of Good Morning America over 30 years ago. That shouldn’t be the first credit on her resume. The Other Half was a ratings and creative failure. Was this the best hire for CBS?
Yes Matt, it was, thus the hire. Good try though. I think the folks over at CBS no a tad more than you do pal. I hope Van Nuys is treating you well these days.
She is going to wreck The Talk!
How can you wreck something that is already bad? Besides, Mrs Moonves is on it, so it will run forever…or until he gets the boot from CBS.
I gave up on the show. Its a snore! The show has no edge. THEY TALK ABOUT NOTHING. If it was a horse it would be put down.
I once tried to watch 5 minutes of this show, but my Y-chromosome triggered this overwhelming urge to run out of the house screaming.
Jesus, enough with the snarky negatating!! I agree with Dave (Comment #1). Never knew Susan when she was at GMA but I HAVE had the great fortune to work with her for the past couple of years on IN THE HOUSE. If there’s anyone who can assess this complicated situation (how’s that for an understatement?!) and get THE TALK to start kicking ass, it’s Susan Winston. Truly inspired pick!
How did this ever happen? Someone please explain. I was unlucky enough to work with Susan many years ago and she was tired back then. I can’t imagine those hosts actually meeting her and signing off on hiring her. Maybe she worked some psychological mind tricks on CBS and convinced them not to call around town.
I think you mean you worked for Susan.
Who watches IN THE HOUSE? Only ego-driven studio heads. It’s a bad show and has nothing to do with a daytime program. IN THE HOUSE has never kicked ass so I don’t know what she adds to the mix.
Nancy, what do you add to your cake mix?
I worked on TOH. I always found Susan likable and funny. Evan after I got let go I never harbored any ill feelings towards her.
Congrat’s, Susan! Show ‘em how it’s done!
thank you all for your “insightful” comments. I think CBS make an enlightened choice in selecting someone with a ton of experience ( and current experience), someone who speaks the language of the hosts, someone who cares about what is relevant in the world, someone who truly thinks out of the box and is an endless idea factory. Far from a “dinosaur” Susan is one of the most forward thinking people in the industry and will prove that quickly. Additionally, for all who wrote those nasty comments, clearly you have never worked “with” Susan . . . and that is how she always states it – you work “with”, not “for”. You sound bitter, perhaps unemployed, or unhappy in your work, your home. Why not spend your time and well-honed words on something other than crashing someone’s professional aptitude.
All of you need to shut the fuck up, everyone who is hating are a bunch of losers who sit at home on their ass all day because they are too much of a loser to get a REAL job. Its time for all of you to get you’re ugly face out of your ass and wake up. If susan was hard on you, she was only like that because she wanted her shows to be the best to her ability, people change and obviously susan has proved she has changed because she got this amazing job. Susan winston is an amazing producer she has gotten so many shows, obviously if she wasn’t good with her job she wouldn’t be such a success in the entertainment world
her best obviously wasn’t very good…she hasn’t been in the biz for years…ha ha ha…today was extremely hard to watch the talk so i didn’t…i have no words to express how uninteresting and dull the first 5 minutes were…if that’s any indication of where this show is going….bye bye..i agree 2 weeks!!!
I give her 2 weeks.
I never comment on any shows or anything, but please don’t split these ladies up. I enjoy there funny topics in the beginning they crack me up! I actually look forward to watching them. There’s no bs they tell ya how it is, “The View girls” bore me. That group doesn’t go together. Julie, Holly, Sharon, Sara and Leah act like girlfriends and that’s what people want to watch. These ladies are REAL and honest and it would be stupid to spilt them…enough said.
I can’t believe that lea and holly were fired from the talk as a 44 year old man who don’t watch talk programs like the view, ellen or anything girlie but i loved the talk i even dvr the shows i missed all because of the team already there shame on you C B S you lost my intrest cause there’s nothing interesting about kris jenner what a stinker………boo
A really good show has just been ruined!!
