A CBS2 TV station’s investigative report (video below) is alleging that the local transit authority in Chicago tried to elicit an alleged bribe for services on the Summit Entertainment movie Source Code. I’m told that Summit is not commenting since the studio was not directly involved. But the TV station is calling this “like something out of a movie.” ”The movie industry has brought millions of dollars to the Chicago area, shooting scenes all over the city and suburbs. One or more Metra employees may have tried to get a piece of the action, CBS2 and the Better Government Association have learned. Now, the rail agency’s inspector general is investigating.” A Metra train has a starring role in the film and was ”one of the many movie negotiations handled for more than a decade by Jonathan Gottlieb, a Metra special transportation services manager. But after Gottlieb negotiated a $19,000 contract for Source Code last year, a film location manager reportedly complained that Gottlieb demanded additional cash for all his hard work — $2,000 — be delivered in an envelope to him or another Metra employee. On the morning of the first shoot, the complainant said, Gottlieb was furious to learn the money would not be delivered and told her she’d never be able to work with Metra again.” Gottlieb has denied any involvement and said his record is unblemished. But “soon after the alleged incident, he retired from his $73,000-a-year job,” CBS2 reported. Officials have praised the Source Code location manager for “blowing the whistle” on the incident and urging others in showbiz to report any similar problems they have had.

Bribery? In Chicago? I am shocked, shocked I tell you- just like in “Casablanca”. I wonder if Ari negotiated Rahm’s cut?
The Metra guy needed the dough to secure a reservation at “Next”.
Considering that the last 2 Govs of Illinois were locked up or almost locked up ( Blago you dodged a bullet )Who is shocked? And you wonder why the next Batman film is being made in Pittsburgh.
The next “Batman” film being made in Pittsburgh has nothing to do with this you moron. Nolan wanted to show a different side of Gotham City, and you can’t do that if you’re filming in all the same locals. By the way, lets not forget that only a few scenes of the first “Batman” film were shot in chicago, and in “tdk”, most of the chicago scenes were of downtown and not the same areas of the first movie, so it’s not like these films are featuring a lot of chicago. I would know b/c I’ve seen their locations while they were filming. Any other wrong and dumb statments you’d like to contribute?
This comment seems unnecessarily harsh. Where or where has civility gone?
Where *oh* where, that is…
The only statement I’d like to contribute is that even a moron should know the difference between “local” and “locale.”
You think you can change the way things are done in CHICAGO?!?!?!
Hello, I’m from Chicago, where are all of you from?
FYI on matters related to this story:
Metra apparently had some ethics problems – their former chief committed suicide last year as he was being investigated.

Metra is one of the transit companies here, CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) is the other. They both fall under the Regional Transit Authority. CTA runs city buses and trains/subways, including the “el” trains, in the city. Metra’s trains go through the city but are designed primarily to take people to/from more suburban destinations.
Complements to the location manager who reported this!
Have you seen any of the proposed DKR locations? They look awesome. And you know, actually closer to the real Gotham.
There’s a “real” Gotham?
Someone needs a reality check.
‘Gotham City’ is based on Manhattan. Glad to know somebody’s marshaling this thing handing out reality checks.
Jake, there’s nothing you can do. It’s chicagotown.
This is beyond Chicago. Bribing and lying in the movie business? I’m glad these jerks are getting caught.
As a chicago area producer I can argue that tdk overused loop locale. If nolan wanted to “show a different side of gotham” all he had to do was go into the neighborhoods.
This article is shocking to me. Ive dealt with both metra and both agencies have been nothing but kind and helpful. Yea chicago has the STEREOTYPE of being mob run and corrupt, but that has come more at the state level over the last few decades.
As far as Blago- I hated everything he has done with an exception which was the taxbreak for filming whuch is a direct reason why nolan and bay et al have come out here. I hope that this news does not detour others from coming to chicago. There are honest haedworking folks out here that love chicago and the burbs who want more films and tv shows shot here!
