Sequels do especially well overseas, and Universal’s street-car racing franchise is scoring. Thursday’s previews of Fast Five in the UK at 416 locations grossed an estimated $2.1 million in the first day. The pic is No. 1 with 46% market share. It’s Universal’s biggest Thursday previews in history and in the Top 8 Thursday previews of all time — bigger than previews for Iron Man and Iron Man 2 and The Bourne Ultimatum. Fast Five also opened in Korea today at 239 locations to become No. 1 with 35% market share — twice as big as the franchise’s fourquel Fast & Furious with total previews grossing $570K. It’s also No. 1 in New Zealand with 40% market share and an opening-day gross of $260K at 55 locations. The total estimated grosses thus far including its No. 1 status in Australia are $7 million.

This is going to open to epic numbers next weekend. I don’t know a single person male/female who doesn’t want to see this.
You don’t? Allow me to introduce myself. I wouldn’t see this if you put a gun to my head.
me.
I still don’t know if putting The Rock in it fixes the awful taste I still have from 2 years ago when I saw Fast and Furious. It was good times, but more like “I’m bored” than must see.
That’s just me though. This film’s going to crush the competition next weekend regardless of me putting on my ‘critic hat’.
Fast Five is what this month needs. It comes out around pay day. The family movie and drama fatigue is setting in. Fast and Furious movies aren’t great but they provide entertainment value. Women will go for the male cast and men will go for the cars. The diversity involved helps the marketing. This year at the movies has been very “white”. I predict that it opens around $50m.
Given the more than usual number of public holidays this week/weekend in Australia, expect opening week grosses of at or around $20 million. (It made over $4.5 million during its first two non-holiday days alone).
Odd.
I’ve seen any of these films and have zero interest so I’m slightly surprised that the 5th installment is doing so well.
Congrats to the studio/stars/director but this doesn’t look like anything new/exciting.
Hi, I’m Ricky. Now you have met someone who has no interest in this movie.
You don’t know anyone who doesn’t want to see this? Do you know anyone older than 15, or anyone with an IQ over 85?
I find comfort in this story because it’s nice to learn that it’s not just americans who are stupid
If this opens big enough, That weekend may become the new start of summer, like when Twister moved the start of summer from Memorial Day to the beginning of May.
the 5 or so people who dont want to see this movie its okay. thousands will come and see it anyways. so you guys can keep your 10 dollars and see another movie. i cant wait for this one !!!!
Let me say not being a fan of this franchise ‘fast five’ has the opportunity to reach a broader audience, as it is more a heist film in the vein of ‘italian job’ and the ocean flicks.
It’s pretty good and I thought the last one was mediocre at best.
I saw this on opening day. Never been a huge fan of the films but liked the 4th one after being dragged to it and really enjoyed this one. It was so much fun, perfect leave your brain at the door entertainment with some pretty amazing action scenes and a fairly decent story.
Not all films have to be ‘high brow’ to be entertaining, as long as you take this for what it is you will enjoy it. Glad it’s doing well and looking forward to the next one!
@Freddie- why do you have to insult those who disagree with you. If you want a movie to change your life then see something else, this movie just looks fun..and my I.Q. is 125. Not genius, but over 85.
it’s the Rock!
i cant to see the movie.i been waiting for every actors come back to reunited once again
