The three Seth MacFarlane Fox animated comedies, Family Guy, American Dad and The Cleveland Show, had been planning a crossover event for this Sunday, with a hurricane storyline weaving through all three shows. In light of the recent storms in the South, Fox recently quietly pulled promotion for the crossover and today, following a series of tornadoes that has claimed the lives of more than 300 people, it decided to pull the episodes altogether. They will be saved for next season, with reruns airing in their place this Sunday.

Why? I’m pretty sure anybody who would be bothered by this wouldn’t be watching.
Obesity kills hundreds of people a day. Shouldn’t they pull Mike and Molly off the air?
You’re comment is f***ng hilarious.
Right on yo.
This comment represents the 100% correct response to this situation.
Fox should get some recognition for doing the right thing this time. Thanks!
Even just postponing art is a restriction on art, and restriction of art is censorship, by definition. There is censorship like what we associate with certain African, Asian and Arabic countries, where the government censors media, art, and telecommunications for nefarious reasons, and then there’s this sort of “soft” censorship which is promoted as a way to protect people’s feelings. That sort of censorship, while not as objectionable as trying to keep secrets from the public through intimidation, is just as destructive to liberty. Even when it comes from corporate America instead of the government.
And if it still doesn’t seem like a big deal to you, think about how those shows deal with current events and pop culture in their jokes and references and will have to be re-written with “fresher” jokes next year before their release. And what if the next tornado season is heavy too? Will they have to postpone yet another year and re-write the episodes again?
The fact of the matter is the tornadoes happened after these episodes were written, and so there is no way they could possibly make fun or make light of the situation. They’re not even about the same type of natural disaster! Would you be offended to see a hurricane-centric comedy after the Japanese earthquakes? Of course not! So why be offended about using hurricanes in comedy after a series of tornadoes? That’s insane.
I mean Lethargic, btw
They care about folks’ sensitivities to the tornado victims but not to the japanese people that that family guy writer offended?
They care about the tornadoes but not the transgender community that they dedicated a whole episode to making fun of?
Tornado victims DIED, and those who didn’t lost everything they had. You don’t make fun of death.
Family Guy has made fun of dead people many times.
If you can’t laugh at death, what does that say about your outlook on life? Must we really shuffle to the grave, terrified of what’s at the end? No thanks… I’d rather enjoy my life and have a few laughs before I go.
Don’t they have any new episodes (Perhaps from the production block currently in production for next season) they could throw instead of reruns?
I’m sure the main reason is for controversy. They don’t want to look insensitive or deal with angry letters/calls/emails. I understand why they would decide to not air the episodes until later on. Back in the day, The WB (now CW) exempted an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer due to the Columbine shootings and aired it later in the season. It does happen once in a while, and as long as the episode is set to air eventually, what’s the real harm? I don’t see any.
Now, not to sound insensitive, but I really can’t wait to see this 3-part crossover. lol
Don’t they have the option to turn the TV off if it upsets them? People are too sensitive.
Yeah what happened to the sensitivity when they had a Family Guy writer making fun of the thousands that were killed in the Tsunami and the aftermath?
Fox didn’t say a peep when Alec “star wars and rape jokes” Sulkin rejoiced in the deaths of the Japanese – many of whom work on his show.
That guy shouldn’t have a job.
If this is true (I don’t normally watch any of Seth MacFarlane’s shows, as they tend to (read ALWAYS) beat a joke into the ground so far you need a backhoe to get it out) then yeah, the guy should be fired. You don’t make fun of tragic death.
All of your fake outrage is gross. Its an animated television comedy show. What damage will be done? Will the people take to the streets with pitchforks and fire? No, they won’t. They will simply turn the channel if they dont like it, or like most of you, they will watch so that they can be in an uproar about something. Save the anger and outrage for a worthy cause.
I think you’d feel differently if you lived in Alabama and had seen the wreckage and found some of the bodies…
Why would seeing the (albeit absolutely tragic) wreckage of tornado victims make a comedy about a completely different type of natural disaster that doesn’t even reference the real, tragic event inappropriate?
I am really bummed these will not air. I was looking forward to watching them since I read bout them last fall.
fox made the right choice by pulling the episodes at least till a later time maybe though amazed given fox’s love for seth and his shows they decided deceny and compassion for the victims won out over risking being called insensitive .scary this means fox does have some compassion as a network.
No, Allie. Not really. After spending 9 months is NoLa following Katrina, I still like to laugh. I love how you assume things for people instead of letting them decide for themselves. Your ego really needs to be put in check. Let people decide for themselves.
Reruns are So Boring Next week are New American Dad – The Cleveland Show Hopefully They wont Do this Again I was Really looking Forward To The American Dad Family Guy – The Cleveland crossover. Hopfully next Season will be Better
I live in Alabama, and had several people i know loose homes/loved ones in the recent tornado…and I STILL would have laughed my ass off, I’m sure.
