HBO has renewed the animated comedy series The Ricky Gervais Show for a third season. The voices on the show are recorded by Ricky Gervais; his longtime collaborator, Stephen Merchant; and Gervais’ colleague and friend, Karl Pilkington, whose offbeat musings inspire many of the storylines. The second-season finale of Ricky Gervais, which airs Fridays at 9 PM, will air on April 15. On March 19, the podcast on which the series is based passed the 300 million-downloads mark. The Ricky Gervais Show is produced by MRC in association with Wildbrain Entertainment. Gervais, Merchant, Pilkington, Glyn Hughes, Bob Higgins, Lisa Ullmann and Steve Patrick are executive producing.

Dear Ricky–
Your Office/Extas-cred has run out.
Please insert NEW CONTENT or go away… (animated podcasts don’t count).
EVERY SINGLE episode of The Ricky Gervais Show has made me laugh out loud. EVERY SINGLE ONE! You don’t think hilarious off the cuff conversations set to animation “counts” as original content? You have a right, but don’t pretend you’re any kind of authority. Those guys are funnier in thirty minutes of effortless chit-chat than any episode of scripted comedy right now.
I enjoyed them when they debuted four years ago.
Watching them now animated is a waste of time.
next!
That’s great, but I want to know when The Life and Times of Tim is returning.
Tim never got better than a .1 in the ratings. You can’t go lower than that. If it comes back, it’s a gift.
Bravo! The world needs as much Karl Pilkington as it can get!
Is this Fred Flintstone-the British Years?
Anyone else see the similarity…Hannah Barbara, you listening?
Show features Ricky laughing uproariously, his sidekick talking snark, and the dumb guy talking nonsense. Ricky’s “The Office ” and “Extras” were funny, original, and engaging. “Ricky Gervais”, the show, is none of these.
Someone above said “Your Office/Extras-cred has run out.” I’d add that anyone who can create & produce these sitcom masterpieces can do better.
To be fair, these are re-purposed radio podcasts. Seems more like a fun side-project than an earnest attempt at “Another Great Show.” For what it is, it’s still hilarious.
Then why is it on HBO?
I’m glad you expressed your opinion. Here is mine- This show is funnier than 98% of the other “comedies” on TV.
Karl Pilkington is a 21st Century Genius….
in 200 years, they will all know.
Watched it once. Wasn’t funny. I didn’t even last the whole show. In fact most of HBO’s new “comedies” (Bored to Death, Funny or Die) aren’t funny at all. Maybe I’m not LA hipster enough.
No, clearly you are just not smart enough. But its ok, check out USA, where Characters are Welcome. You might enjoy that.
this show is amazing. it’s essentially a character study of a very mild-mannered, simple man by his erudite and antagonistic friends. plus, the animation is brilliant. i can’t get enough of this show, i hope they never run out of podcasts to recycle because i want to watch it forever.
what i’m saying is THANK YOU, HBO
It seduced me with a laugh or two and then I started really paying attention to the relationship dynamics between the three. Now, I’m always whistling and humming with the final credits music (catchy tune)
The original podcasts (ie the audio for the entire show) were hysterical, but if you’re unfamiliar with the threesome’s dynamic then I imagine most of it would go over your head via TV. It is not a ‘watch it for 5 mintues and instantly get it’ show.
Mazol Tov!
