Management/production company The Collective has teamed with Dane Boedigheimer, creator of the popular YouTube series The Annoying Orange, to produce The Annoying Orange animated TV comedy series. Conrad Vernon, co-director of Monsters and Aliens and Shrek 2, has come on board to executive produce. The Collective is financing six half-hour episodes from the project, which is being written by Tom Sheppard, an Emmy winner for Pinky and the Brain. Casting is already under way, with Malcolm McDowell set to voice one of the characters.
The Annoying Orange video series, which has amassed more than half-billion views on YouTube, features an orange with a human mouth and eyes heckling other characters, mostly other fruits and vegetables. The series has 7 million Facebook fans, it is the eighth-most-subscribed YouTube channel of all time and its app is in the Top 10 on iTunes.
The Collective, which reps Boedigheimer and Sheppard, took a similar route with Lucas Cruikshank’s web series Fred, developing it independently before taking it to Nickelodeon. Here is one Annoying Orange video, which has garnered 58 million views:
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

annoyance achieved.
make the tv show come out tuesday the tuesday that’s coming up if anyone agrees put ya make tuesday
o.O??? :X
This series would be PERFECT for Cartoon Network’s adult swim block. Have it a lead-in to “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” or something.
You are wrong Sir. Annoying orange does not say bad words otherwise he would be on Adult Swim block! Annoying Orange should be on Nickelodeon Or on a Disney channel!
It deos say bad words, but kinda. It says crap a lot of times
This is not for Disney Channel. It sounds like something you’d see on Cartoon Network. I hope that’s where they put it on!
I agree
dude it should be on cartoon network
what are you tslking about? teenage mutant ninja water?
but there is blood on the deaths sometimes
its not blood, it’s juice. I know this because it is multi colored.
but sometime it shows blood on many kid shows
Actually I think it would be perfect for Cartoon Network itself instead. Make it like one of their TV-PG shows.
That’s it, thank Hollywood, I’m out. I have no clue whatsoever what sells anymore. Stories that elucidate the human condition? No thanks, I want to see a retarded fucking orange tell jokes. I’m out, back to the South, I have failed to crack through to the brilliant minds running things.
You’re an apple! HAHAHAHA!!!
No I’m not. I’m an orange.
Good one, Orange. LOL! LOL!
This was your freaking tipping point?
Really?
Not The Desperate Housewives, every show based on a blog or Jersey Shore’s multi-show pact??
Snookie???
Have a safe trip back home y’all.
You forgot every single Kardashian reality show out there. Plus Aqua Teen Hunger Force is the greatest abomination of a cartoon that has ever existed (yes, worse than Family Guy) and inexplicably they’ve been on the air for 10 years.
Our society is basically doomed.
I know this oarnge has big thins coming to him!I dont really give a crap about much else.
This is one of the worst online properties I have seen in my life. It also seems like it might scare children.
Who is going to buy this? If this ends up on Adult Swim around midnight I would understand the thinking. But good luck selling this to any mainstream outlets.
….my grandsons LOOOOOVE Annoying orange, as do I. They are 5 and 9 years old and are not in the least bit scared….I’m really looking forward to the TV series. I do hope they dont lose the original looks of the fruit and veg characters.
Best of luck to Daneboe XXXXX
I agree too I love The Annoying Orange!
It’s already more popular with kids than almost anything on TV. The views and facebook fans can’t be wrong. I’ve guested on the web series and I get recognized by kids when traveling. Kids love it – it’s for real.
Civilization over.
I did a series with this EXACT premise at my lunch table in the 3rd grade. I am upset and angry.
Malcolm McDowell as the, get this, nyuk nyuk nyuk, clockwork orange!
(sorry I couldn’t get anything to rhyme with clockwork)
malcom is probaly voicieing grandpa lemon
Hey, Orange?!! You have bad teeth and you suck!!!
FML
At first I thought this seemed ridiculous. Then I thought maybe it might be good, so I watched a couple episodes (for lack of a better word) on YouTube. I was right the first time. Not funny at all.
Fascinating.
Does it have a brain.
I see this as a potential Charlie Sheen re-launch vehicle. #winjuice
for reals, a la gary shteyngart, this is a sign of the coming death of language and culture. stupid orange? great! just be funny and or interesting if you´re going to have 58 million viewers! oh, america.
I don’t understand the Gary Shteyngart reference. And yes, I’ve read his books and like him as a writer so why taint his name in association with this nonsense?
Compared to “monsters vs. Aliens” this orange guy is hilarious.
This is a sign that I am getting old. I just don’t get it.
While you guys don’t seem to “get it” looks like it’s doing ok…:
“The Annoying Orange video series, which has amassed more than half-billion views on YouTube, features an orange with a human mouth and eyes heckling other characters, mostly other fruits and vegetables. The series has 7 million Facebook fans, it is the eighth-most-subscribed YouTube channel of all time and its app is in the Top 10 on iTunes.”
No we get it… It “”LOOKS LIKE IT’S DOING OK”" getting a lot of mindless “views” on youtube with short little bits and getting 7 million facebook folks to click a button. Looks impressive.
I just don’t see it holding my attention for a half-hour… let alone 6 half-hours.
I had thought, really, when the entire country stood up and rejected Yahoo Serious that this kind of thing could never happen again. I am shocked and saddened that I was apparently wrong
I’m pretty sure I saw a Ketchup and Mustard version of this years ago? Is this the same people…. apparently not.
Wasn’t this same eye/mouth concept done with thumbs? Probably by the same yahoos too. Entropy at its tardest.
Bob Oedenkirk did the Thumb movies. He is freaking hilarious.
I always find it so amusing when people don’t appreciate something others find humorous and then they get on their pedestal to preach and judge. To each his or her own…
This series on YouTube is amazing. It’s cute, fun, and obviously popular!! This makes perfect sense. It’s not for everyone so stop hating on it. But I get it. Kudos.
Wasn’t this some Conan schtick and “technology” from about ten years ago?
You mean the “Clutch Cargo technique” that everyone, even Conan, calls “the clutch cargo technique,” because that cartoon is like 60 years old?
Conan should get a cut.
A half billion hits? There are entirely too many stupid people in the world with internet access and free time. I feel sorry for the poor degenerate f@ckers trying to serve them – even if they “succeed” at it.
People (including, apparently, the production company doing the pickup) don’t get it:
*It is the very *awfulness* of the clip that makes it viral*.
People forward links to the clips more or less saying, “Look at this absurd piece of sh*t”.
Example #2 – The “Friday” video.
So view counts shouldn’t be taken as anything resembling an indicator that a show can have a sustained viewership.
“Ironic viewership” can pall very quickly.
Orange’s encounter with Apple is the best one – and hilarious. But can it really sustain itself?
Orange you glad you don’t have to watch this show?
