This is why Dan Fogelman is exactly what the industry needs. Smart but accessible. That said, the tone of this trailer is a bit too sappy, it should have highlighted more of what is some very funny comedy in the script. Think the song was a poor choice.

One of the few scripts I’ve read lately that I actually enjoyed. I took issue with a particular major plot point though and am very curious to see how people react to it. But what do I know. Fogelman’s a great writer and I’m a punk on the internet.

Emma stone also looks 13 compared to Gosling.

“Crazy Stupid Love” has 2 problems: Steve Carell & J Moore.
Carell can’t play romantic comedy-or romantic anything. He’s a boring, sexless, sparkless, one-note actor, only good for TV.
On the big screen, Carell falls flatter than his dialog.
And Julianne Moore is OK as an older woman seeking love-though she has zero sex appeal to anyone under 40.
But Steve & Julianne as a couple? Zero sex appeal, zero interest.
Nobody under 30 will pay good money to watch old people in a “romantic comedy”.
Emma & the other guy are OK, but so what.
Warner’s trying to ride Steve Carell’s nonexistent post-Office buzz.
Too bad Steve can’t open a movie since “40 Year Old Virgin”.
Remember “Date Night”, another bomb. Same miscasting of sexless male & female leads. Tina Fey with ZERO sexual chemistry, and one-note boring Steve Carell trying to act like a couple. Bomb from the get go.
“Crazy Stupid Love” does, though, feature the perfect couple to represent most relationships: Two boring, sexually frustrated, middle-aged, people trying to “work” at their relationship as if it’s an humorless sitcom.

Um, DATE NIGHT wasn’t a “bomb”, you moron. It made $100 million!! I saw the movie in the theater and I didn’t love it but that’s neither here nor there — $100 domestic box office is NEVER considered a bomb, and especially on a movie whose production costs were so low (no digital effects, etc.)
Guess what, people over 30 DO go to the movies. Who do you think went and saw something like TRUE GRIT? It certainly wasn’t my 17 year old neighbor who made that movie a box office success.

He really is one of the best actors of this generation. While I love to see him in films like THE BELIEVER and BLUE VALENTINE where his talent truly shines, like THE NOTEBOOK – CRAZY STUPID LOVE was a very intelligent move to make. This is going to introduce him even more to a general audience. Then he can be like Clooney and Pitt and do a big studio movie every now and then, then go off and make his BLUE VALENTINE Oscar worthy films.
Go Ryan, you have some good reps on your side! And/or you are just very smart yourself… don’t to the LOGAN’S RUN remake though – come on dude, seriously, there has got to be better studio projects that you can make your payday on.
