Lionsgate has issued a trailer for Warrior, a film written and directed by Miracle and Pride and Glory helmer Gavin O’Connor that seems to have a bit of familial spirit of The Fighter, transplanted to the world of mixed martial arts. It’s the story of battling brothers played by Tom Hardy (the Inception star who’s next starring in The Dark Knight Rises) and Joel Edgerton (the Animal Kingdom star who’s one of the thesps testing for Tony Gilroy’s The Bourne Legacy). Nick Nolte plays their father. The film opens Sept. 9.

I know people who have seen this that say it is an amazing film. Even though the trailer gave me goosebumps, those same people say it doesn’t even do it justice. Can’t believe I have to wait till September!!!

Saw it at CinemaCon. It’s ROCKY for the 21st century. Phenomenal film and Oscar worthy.

I will probably watch it for Joel Edgerton. He’s a skilled actor…you might remember him from “Kinky Boots.”

This trailer looks awful and cliche but since it’s from the director of Miracle (such a good movie!) I will probably check this out.
The Fighter simply stole this film’s thunder for me. Too close together in release for me to want to see this. Strained family dynamics plus fighting. Meh. Nothing new emotionally that hasn’t been done to very high standards if not perfection in Rocky and The Fighter. Even if it’s done very well, and it looks like it was, I feel like I know all it’s moves and would rather watch real UFC.
It’s shocking the director of MIRACLE would employ a sports cliche. Good call and an important comment to make.
I was lucky to have been invited to a private screening of this incredible film. The trailer doesn’t do it justice. Edgerton, Hardy and Nolte for that matter give performances that rival Bale’s from The Fighter and I loved Bale’s performance. Extremely well crafted by director and writer…a very very special film. This is our generation’s Rocky! This was also made before “The Fighter” I just hope to God this will be the director’s cut that I was fortunate enough to see…bring tissues and I’m talking to you tough guys out there.

God it’s great to see Nick Nolte kicking some ass again. One of the best and most underappreciated actors of the last thirty years and that Edgerton kid looks like amazing.

Guess we won’t have to fight you for seats in the theater come September. Hopefully there will be a thinker’s documentary out that same weekend so you’ll have some new ammo with which you can try to impress your local baristas, even though they wish you’d leave them alone. Or at least stop wearing your liberal arts college sweatshirt every day.
