Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Alexander Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Stellan Skarsgard, Udo Kier and Jesper Christensen star in the drama. It opens July 1 in the UK; Magnolia Pictures picked up rights to the US and Canada at the Berlin film festival.

I wish Kiefer Sutherland would do more mainstream movies. He has done some great films in his time and shouldn’t just be remembered for 24 and playing Jack Bauer. He was huge to me long before 24 began. He is an underrated actor. So, I hope that he does more movies with more leading roles, tries to reach his full potential as an actor and tries to win an Oscar.
It appears from this trailer that Kiefer chose a very good film to do post Jack Bauer. This looks like it could be wonderful
Keeping with the visual asthetic of Antichrist (but a fresh subject matter), this looks promising.
Dogme 2095
Seriously. What happened to Dogme 95? He was such a judgmental ass to anyone that used special effects or any kind of post, now he can’t get enough of it. What a hypocrite.
I have never seen more people walk out of a film as I saw for Dogville.
Had I done a Top Ten list for 2004, “Dogville” would have been #1, but 2004 was such a pisspoor year in films, it was the first year (in two decades of critiquing films) that I decided to NOT bother with a Top Ten list.
Regardless, “Dogville” is such a great film (that improves upon each viewing), it would undoubtedly be #1 even if I did do a list that year.
And, before everyone starts claiming that it was a 2003 release, it was only available on the festival circuit in the US, until it’s official wide release in 2004.
Their loss. Dogville is absolutely brilliant.
trailer seemed a bit disjointed and the premise of the film shaky if not done very, very well. deep emotional/supernatural connection brings to mind shades of eastwood’s disastrous “hereafter.” that was just my immediate reaction.
however, cinematography is gorgeous and the visuals completely chilling. i will at least think about seeing this.
Please. Give it a thought. Let us know.
sorry if this is too advanced for you ;(

looks yummy though
Uhm, what the fuck is this movie about anyway.
I think melodramatic would be a more of an appropriate title. No thanks, I’ll pass.
The “Black Swan” of wedding movies.
planet behind the sun. The Sundance film Another Earth had a similar sci-fi hook to explore existential crisis, but this has a real budget some solid actors and likely a bit more plot to keep the pacing moving. Hope they pulled it off. Trailer was interesting but didn’t blow me away.
This looks gorgeous. Trier is truly one of the best European directors, constantly pushing the envelope (much like Michael Haneke and Gaspar Noe).
Dogma is a terrific dark little film, give it another try. Once you get used to the premise it delivers in spades
Note to self – never write under the influence.
I meant Dogville not Dogma.
I have seen several of Von Triers movies; all disturning lol. looking forward to Kiefer’s role in this one. Not huge Dunst fan and unfortunately looks like she is the main attraction. blah
melancholia, a new fragrance or a movie?
looks like boring, stilted, self-important melodrama to me.
this looks fucking awful
