The Weinstein Company has released a new trailer on Our Idiot Brother, the picture that Harvey Weinstein acquired at Sundance in a vigorous bidding battle. TWC teamed with Ron Burkle to pay between $6 million-$7 million, and a P&A commitment of $15 million in one of the bigger deals of the festival. The comedy, which stars Paul Rudd as the title character, will be released Aug. 26.

Hilarious! I’m there.
Horrible !
I’d be there… if Paul Rudd weren’t in it. That man’s the definition of unfunny.
Really? You’re the first person I’ve ever heard complain that Paul Rudd isn’t funny. Everyone I know, myself included, thinks he’s hilarious. Strange.
Very strange.
Seems the WC took this vid trailer down because of copyright issues!! ON A TRAILER??? Can we re-name this “Our Idiot Producers”?
“This video no longer there due to a copyright claim by TWC.”
Seriously? Didn’t Nikki just run a story the other day about the Weinsteins being buried up to their ass in unnecessary legal matters? Case in point.
Chill out with the billable hours, ass clowns. People just want to watch a trailer that gives publicity to YOUR OWN MOVIE!
I like a lot of the people in this project, behind the scenes and in front of the camera. But this is fake indie — this sensibility that is just too hipster, and low on laughs. This trailer in incredibly dreary and unfunny.
The director and his wife, he founded a big band (The Lemonheads), and his father was big at The New Republic. But they’re not filmmakers, they’re not real writers. This isn’t comedy, this is hipster posturing with tee hee jokes that are not funny. This movie is going to die at the box office, because there’s no real heart in this film.
Classic Greenberg/Norman/Weinstein comedy, but Im confused…which Weinstein brother is this about?
Hooray for my first Monday chuckle!
and they’re so confident they slated it for the last weekend in august!
Another manchild movie. Yippie! Nothing like a loser “weird alone guy” to charm an audience. And I’m sure he gets the girl in the end ’cause as we know from watching Judd Apatow movies hot girls loooove them some loser dudes.
Paul Rudd’s fine by me even in that stupid wig and fake beard, it’s just how many of these movies can we see? I guess the well is bottomless.
This has got to be the most negative comments board on the entire internet. You people have lost touch with the common movie goer.
Check out the comments sections of sites like Joblo.com and you see nothing but effusive praise for this trailer and the much-maligned-on-Deadline trailer for 30 Minutes or Less. These are real people, not industry cynics, these are the people you have to reach.
These two trailers were good trailers. They’re funny. What’s wrong with you, guys? Now I haven’t the energy to check if these two films are from the same studio. If they are, I MUST be a plant, right?
^Thank you!
If it’s so funny, why is out in the last weekend of August???
So the Weinstein Company can’t figure out how to launch their own trailer on their own youtube channel for easy embedding and feel the need to isssue removal notices to other sites that do. A trailer is an advertisement. Why are they giving take down notices to people. It’s really retarded. What’s wrong with the world of copyright that advertisers don’t want people to watch their advertisements.
Hilarious. And spot on.
“This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by The Weinstein Company.”
Funniest trailer tagline I’ve come across this week!
I’m taking this trailer notice at face value: THIS is what “Our Idiot Brother” is about!
Plot: Videos all around the country mysteriously begin disappearing due to “copyright claims”. An evil, shadowy group called “The Weinstein Company” issues a proclamation: “All your videos belong to us”.
Paul Rudd’s “idiot brother” character decides, as a self-proclaimed video freedom fighter, to fight the sinister TWC by IGNORING their copyright claim on HIS video.
Best scene: The Ivy, lunchtime, patio…
Heated & hilarious confrontation between the idiot brother and Harvey W plus not one-but THREE- lawyers about 1) the seasoning on their Cobb salad, 2) actors and their greedy back end demands, 3) The MPAA and their fucking nonsense about “fuck”, 4) Harvey’s stylist, 5) oh, and why the idiot brother HIMSELF will soon “no longer be available due to a copyright claim by The Weinstein Company”.
Alternate title: “Copyright This!”
Wow, I don’t mean to be negative but that seriously sucked. I usually like Rudd but this is awful. How does this crap get made? Which leads me to my next question: When was the last time a “comedy” was fu%#ing funny at the b.o.?! Arthur, Hall Pass,Your Highness…WTF?
