HAHAHAHA! That shot of the monkey jumping the helicopter belongs in comedy central. This trailer is full of fail!
Can we officially retire the word ‘fail’ please!
Umm,
No your wrong about this. James Franco is an actor that people will go and see, unlike the list of actors out there that the deal-makers bring in to sell a project but frankly WE the viewing public are tired of seeing.
Even though most of us grew up on Planet of the apes movies, a remade version that is tightly written and well acted will capture the public’s imagination.
What I think is unsaid is that the adult viewing public is hungry for movies that can capture our imagination and we are tired of one bad movie after another.
Try some steak with that umm.
Yeah they really turned out in droves to see “Your Highness”….
What a piece of s*** movie. So now these friggin apes are supposed to be superintelligent? That ignores the previous POTA movies. Everyone knows the ending to the original. And seeing all the films I know the mythology and this doesn’t match. I’m not going to accept the premise that apes can kick mans azz in a pre-apocalypse world based on our weapons and population advantage. Are they suddenly bulletproof? Do the apes also get opposable thumbs? I don’t care apes get to be 10 percent of the population or more it’s not going to happen.
Yes, in a fair fight one chimpanzee could destroy ten unarmed men with ease. But I’m sure the way they have the apes beating man is going to be laughable. Disgusting.
I’d definitely be scared to see this film in certain theaters. There are no stars in the film either. Huge flop, long term.
Apes are primates so OF COURSE they have opposable thumbs!
Wowsa. Looks pretty damn intriguing. I’m so there, popcorn in tow. ‘Rise of Planet of the Apes’ has GOT to be better than ‘Green Hornet’ with Seth Rogen, or ‘Arthur’ with Russel Brand, right?
The ape effects look spectacular here, so a big shout out to the special effects team on this project. Just hope the script does not disappoint.
Anyone have the 411 on the script?
You have no idea what a loser you are, do you? You have a handle on an internet message board.
Don’t do that.
Hey dilweed, it’s called smart type and it’s already there once you’ve started typing so why not use the same one instead. You sound like an angry insecure nerd.
My favorite part in this trailer is the Ape watching the couple sleep. Really creepy and funny. This actually looks really good.
As long as their is some ape-on-franco sex, sign me up!!!!
Dana California?
Same toolish behavior on your end. It ain’t smartype, it’s people who have no power in the real world, thinking they’re some sort of Internet personality. Loser.
Get a clue! Dana California is Spencer Pratt from the Hills, he’s openly admitted it at parties.
Word on the script is that Scott Frank turned in an excellent, updated take on CONQUEST OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, with all of the social commentary of the original POTA series intact- but the studio freaked out over how dark it was. (That’s how they reacted to the original CONQUEST, too- the director’s cut ending was only restored a few years ago).
If Fox wants to recapture the success of the original series (both artistically AND commercially), they’re just going to have to accept that POTA IS dark- it’s about man reduced to beast, and beasts who are no worse than man.
Just remind the beancounters that all that doom and gloom never stopped the original from schlepping a lotta merchandise, and maybe they’ll wise up.After all: it’s a matter of public record that the reason Fox finally agreed to fund the original STAR WARS is because a sketch of Chewbacca reminded one exec of just how successful the POTA series had been for them…
CST, a sincere thank you for the feedback on the script. Interesting to hear the studios thought Frank’s turn was too dark. He is one of my favorite scribes out there. Oh well, I have my fingers and toes crossed that the movie will turn out OK. It looks peppered with promise. We shall see…
Jackass.
When is your next movie?BEETLENUTS
I can’t speak for the movie, but I have to give them points for going out on a shot of someone just contemplating, and letting that be the last statement. They could have gone out with “HE BUILT A BOMB!” or some other nonsense.
Good points. I like the trailer. It’s now a must-see as long as the marketing doesn’t do anything to screw it up for me.
It’s “performance art”, right?
Trailer of the Fail of the Rise of the Planet of the Apes of the Titular Series.
Looks fantastic. Can’t wait. The scary monkey at the end got me. Same guy who played Gollum, isn’t it?
The chimp’s eyes were wrong; they’re too human looking. The eyes of chimpanzees don’t have very little visible white surface unlike humans who have a great deal more.
Too human looking? Good thing that wasn’t the whole point or anything.
Andy Serkis is partly Armenian. A lot of people don’t know that.?
Some other Armenian icons and legends include Andre Agassi, Charles Aznavour, Eric Bogosian, Cher, Princess Diana (1/64 Armenian), Atom Egoyan, Arshile Gorky, The Kardashians, Dr. Jack Kevorkian, Kirk Kerkorian, Mike Connors, William Saroyan, Seymour Skinner (Armen Tamzarian), System of a Down, Steven Zaillian, Michael Vartan, Gregory Peck, Dita Von Teese, Ken Davitian, David Hedison, David Dickinson, Simon Abkarian.
And, don’t forget, Armen Ian Hammer.
“They’re not people, you know.”
You had me until Kardashian.
What the fuck does this have to do with the movie???
Rise of the Planet of the Apes of the Planet of Earth. Jesus, why don’t they put the year and the day in the title too. Super redundant.
I have to say this looks freaking awesome. It actually scared the sh*t out of me, especially when the ape was watching over the bed and all the apes were looking down over at Steve (black dude).
Well done to the effects team for sure. The apes looks more realistic than the previous movies. Obviously, nothing will beat the original but somehow, this looks pretty scary.
I also love that it’s intriguing and doesn’t show everything in the trailer just enough.
Don’t think this is fail at all but looks pretty epic. I really can’t wait to watch this.
Will i.e. James Franco what have you done…….
Franco? No thanks.
Anytime I hear a piece of hackneyed dialog like “You have no idea what you’re dealing with” it’s an instant pass.
Or “some things aren’t meant to be changed.” Yuck…. I’m not sure that the dialogue is going to be the star feature of this one.
The monkey make-up is kickin’ though. Darwin would be thrilled.
is this a hard “R” film or is this going to be sanitized “PG-13″ violence?
If apes gained that type of intelligence and decided to fight humans, there would be blood and gore.
I don’t get how the drug injected in “Caesar” would spread to such a large population of apes so quickly, unless they are doing some sort of time progression in the film.
It has possibilities, but I am skeptical. The sfx of the apes look great though.
And yet most of the original APES movies were rated G!
This will be PG-13 or they’ll lose a huge segment of the audience.
I am struggling with that propagation as well. there is several orders of magnitude less apes/monkeys in the world than humans so how can they over throw the humans. does the cure become a virus that level up the apes while killing off the majority of humans? seems like an outbreak at one lab that was experimenting on them could easily be handled by the local army reserves. or as they get more intelligent did mankind some how regress and lose the ability to use warfare technology?
right now major plot hole that needs filling.
Must admit, I’m not impressed with that – looks sterile. I see that Weta is reusing the animation from Peter Jackson’s King Kong on those gorillas too.
CGI Apes are no substitute for an actor, stuntman or performance artists in makeup. Even Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes had some amazing makeup courtesy of Rick Baker.
Will be interesting to see how this movie fares on it’s opening weekend.
The apes are created with motion capture technology similar to what was used for Avatar.
And, I’m sorry but men in ape suits suck. They costumes are obviously fake. Looking at the trailer, the apes move like apes. They don’t look like ape-human hybrids.
The effects are horrible, it looks like Congo (a film I didn’t know existed until 2 weeks ago). I’m disappointed in Weta, the only decent looking part was the shot of the monkey breaking out, and that’s because it looked like King Kong.
Anybody else feel like there’s no point in seeing the movie now? I mean the trailer told us what the scientist created (the drug), why they created it (to save lives), what went wrong (increase in intelligence), then we saw the monkeys escape (more monkeys than any building could ever hold but hey, if the script sucks throw in more monkeys right?), and since we know this is a prequel to Planet of the Apes, we already know we lose the fight and they takeover. Sooo, what’s the point of seeing this again?
Bullshit. CONGO was the worst movie with terrible FX. The only saving grace was Laura Linney. APES looks good.
bravo sir. Well put, well put. I mean, where did all those fucking monkey come from? There is a whole population on them in that shot.
What a crappy and illogical premise. Lazy writing. So this is how it all begins?
Makes no sense.
primates are on the loose, help! if only we had a civilian funded, organized, armed force whose sole purpose is national security to protect us. I wonder if increased intelligence also means increased body armor.
This looks great! I’m there!
So what, they mish-mash 28 days later with the 60s Apes movies and turn this into an ape virus that spreads and makes all apes super brilliant? I think I watched a cartoon about this before. Called “Grape Ape”
Andy Serkis (who plays Caesar in Rise of the Planet of the Apes) is partly Armenian. A lot of people don’t know that.?
Some other Armenian icons and legends include Andre Agassi, Charles Aznavour, Eric Bogosian, Cher, Princess Diana (1/64 Armenian), Atom Egoyan, Arshile Gorky, The Kardashians, Dr. Jack Kevorkian, Kirk Kerkorian, Mike Connors, William Saroyan, Seymour Skinner (Armen Tamzarian), System of a Down, Steven Zaillian, Michael Vartan, Gregory Peck, Dita Von Teese, Ken Davitian, David Hedison, David Dickinson, Simon Abkarian.
And his being Armenian relates to the movie how??? Don’t know why you felt the need to impart your wisdom on this topic twice.
Cool story?
Princess Diana was 1/64th, so in other words not really at all.
kim kardashian is 1/2 armenian, 1/2 gadunkadunk
I think we can safely say that anybody with the suffix -ian in the last name is Armenian.
Why not throw in a little CONGO while you’re at it?
The original movies sucked and so will this. The nerds can debate me to death… but will lose!
not exactly a vote of confidence in the quality of product when the only credit goes to the fx company.
talk about the tail wagging the dog…
Franco’s acting in this trailer is about as convincing as his acting on Academy Awards night. Dude, do you want to be in this business or not? Because I’m getting the vibes that you think it’s all beneath you.
ksb36 , I wholeheartedly agree with you. James Franco smugness is getting on my last nerve. Franco needs to take a break from the film industry for a year or two. Besides, James is not as gifted as he think he is.
show me an interview where franco states he is a gifted actor. In every profession, as acting is a profession, you will find any number of people who slack. Get over yourself and go see an actor you appreciate then as he’s clearly an actor because it’s a great job for him and he probably couldn’t do much else.
CGI apes? Come on!!!!! Don’t tell me there isn’t a good way to do practicals on this. You can retire the word “fail” if you want @RemotePatrolled but it is sorta the best way to describe this trailer.
I normally hate too much CGI but have to say a lot of these shots looked pretty good to me – and the premise is interesting…
RE – the word ‘fail’ – it’s just become horribly over-used by cynics who want to sneer at everything and have never actually made anything in their lives! If you don’t like something at least give a reason – rather than just sneer and say ‘fail’
ANOTHER CLASSIC FRANCO PRANCO!!!
eh…apes taking over? in reality, they’d get shot on sight by law enforcement, gun nuts and gangsters. if they were really smart theyd stay in their cages.
