She was the first name bandied about for a judging gig on the American version of The X Factor when the series was announced in January 2010. Fourteen months later, speculation is still rampant whether the hugely popular judge on the British X Factor (but a virtual unknown in the U.S.) would join Cowell on the Fox show. Cowell has admitted that he’d been talking to the Girls Aloud singer, but the only other confirmed X Factor U.S. judge so far, Antonio “L.A.” Reid, reportedly went further. “We’re gonna compete against American Idol just fine,” Reid was quoted as saying to the British press. “I’m very confident. But along with Simon Cowell and Cheryl, I don’t know who the other judge is.” Reps for X Factor declined to comment on speculation. Other female singers rumored for an X Factor judging job include Mariah Carey, Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

I think it’s 99% for certain.
The fans speculation/no brainer aspect of it shows that the interest is there. The fact that she’s done well as a mentor/judge having won it 2 of the 3 seasons she’s done. Lastly, take a look at that face, hair and her own personal x-factor and tell me that gossip sites, magazine covers, endorsement deals for beauty products wouldnt’ go through the roof as the “Who Is Cheryl Cole?” machine shifts into high gear.
I can’t wait for the official announcement.
People.co.uk reported that Fox dropped many of their objections to Cheryl.
Fom People.co.uk
“Pals of Cheryl, 27, last night said she was “double chuffed, just so happy” that Cowell, 51, had taken a chance by backing her.
US X Factor goes on air in September – and more than 18,000 hopefuls went to the first open auditions in Los Angeles last week.
Thousands of them told producers they were fans of Cheryl. An insider said: “The bigwigs from Fox suddenly woke up and realised Simon might have been on to something with her.”

“They were really impressed by how popular she already is. That clinched it for her.”
Cheryl returned to the UK last week after nearly a month in LA recording an album. Her friendship with Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am, 36, and Dancing With the Stars’ Derek Hough, 25, has upped her US fame rating.”
she’s perfect-looking
I used to think that too until I saw her horrible tattoos. Google it. What a waste!
She memorialized a truly amazing decade, the 1990′s, via her tattoos. Butterfly tramp stamp, barbed wire leg band, ass roses, vaguely Middle Eastern Madonna hand tats — all are gloriously represented.
Well, Cheryl can now be closer to her boo — will.i.am.
They should end all this speculation and announce Cheryl Cole’s name already. I’ll be more than happy to have her on the panel.
i dont know who the F she is besides what I’ve learned on Deadline but she’s hot and I think it would be fitting for X Factor to introduce a new Brit celeb to American pop culture since American Idol gave us Simon.
So, I say to the Headmasters at Fox, YES, PLEASE to Cheryl (in a young school boy from a Pink Floyd video British accent) ! Even though I don’t watch these shows she’d be great to look at in an US Weekly in some girl’s bathroom magazine pile.
She would be BRILLIANT. She is attractive, hell yeah, but there’s more to her; from all accounts she’s a genuine person. Can’t wait for X FACTOR.
Yes! This needs to be made official already. I love the fact that thousands at the L.A. auditions already knew who she was and were fans. She’s hot, has a hot accent, knows how to mentor and is one hell of a performer. I’m pretty sure she’s in.
NOW… for that 4th spot. I have a feeling Simon is struggling to fill it. Hoping Paula takes it though.
I think it would be a MAJOR MAJOR MISTAKE if Simon goes with Jessica Simpson as the final judge/mentor. I would definitely prefer either Paula Abdul or Nicole Scherzinger (P****cat Dolls).
Mariah WILL NOT be a judge, BUT Simon is giving her a role on the show once they get to the live performance portion of the competition (Top 16, with each mentor/judge having 4 acts each).
She is stunning. And very sweet. But will they sub-title her? She may be hard for American audiences to understand. Also, what works in the UK as far as mentoring someone to a successful recording career, may not work here. She can give all the best advice in the world, but she hasn’t even broken here as an artist yet.
She’d be a great judge. She’ll be eye candy for the men. Love her accent too!
She didn’t change her last name back yet???
Cheryl Cole is white trash… look up her past fights etc
No one will understand her geordie accent in America. Didn’t work for those british hosts Dec and Ant did it? Nicole should get the judging role.
She won’t change her name to Tweedy because her ex is a massive soccer player.
Past fights?,You seriously do need to let this go,bcos it’s obvious that you’ve green with envy. She was charged for being in just one fight(not fights) with a toilet assistant, who climed that she she did hit her frist without any reason, and also claimed that she used some racial slangs, which no one with a correct mind would beleive that bcos she was once married to a black guy and obviously does have friends that are black.
For god’s sake, she’s not hot and she certainly is no singer. She’s an old slapper who lucked into X Factor in the UK. Cowell is going to crash and burn with X Factor. There is not enough talent to go around and all the things that make X Factor so successful in the UK – the trashy variety schtick with heavy irony – are very British things that don’t translate across the Atlantic.
Oh please. THIS WILL NEVER WORK.
She’s a major talent. She’s a joy to work with or so I am told.
But have you heard her talk?!
I don’t see US audiences warming to a young woman who says things like “Music is me life” in a think Newcastle accent.
I don’t think she’s a good judge on the X-Factor in the UK. Yes, she got to the final the last three years, but she’s by far had the best act. Cheryl and Dannii Minogue were always given the boys and the girls, which are the easiest to mentor. She doesn’t have a wide music knowledge, as was evidenced this year when she hadn’t heard of some Elton John songs. How can she choose the best song when she doesn’t know half of them?
And I don’t know how you’ll understand her accent. I’m Scottish and I struggle to understand her accent. Does the USA really care about the X-Factor judges? I’m sure it’s being built up the the UK media.
I think they should have gone for Nicole Scherzinger. She was great when she was a guest judge. She had enthusiasm, empathy and put Simon in his place. And people watching it will actually know how she is.
Just waiting for all the Americans who’ll be complaining they can’t understand her. Sorry guys, not being biased here.. have seen that happy a number of times before with UK accents – some Americans saying ‘I can’t understand them.. what are they saying?”.
Just like the way no body knew who Simon Cowell was before the American idol, David and especially Victoria Beckham a queen WAG now turned respected famous fashion designer, and Peirs Morgan now respected tv host on the most famous channel in the states( if not in the world), i have no doubt that Cheryl Cole would make it big in the States as a jugdge , and with people like Simon Cowell, Ryan Seacrest, Black eyed peas, Usher, Rihanna, Katy Perry,Justin Beiber etc as her friends, well sky is deffinately the limit for her if she makes use of it wisely. I wish her good luck.
It makes me laugh all of this ‘will she’ won’t she’. Between all of us commenting we are putting cash in Simon’s pockets and that is all. Everyone seems to forget that apart from most people wondering how she even got a Green Card, most people have forgotten half of England was calling for her to be sacked last season and Dannii Minogue was the winner anyway. Cheryl Cole is not a nice person. She refused to sign for the Judges Panel if Nicole Scherzinger was a part of it (probably because she was ten times. better at it and in my opinion, more beautiful, talented and classy. (we can’t have any woman upstaging Queen Cheryl can we? let’s make sure the other woman is less attractive or much older shall we Simon? Also, the reason Simon is now looking at Fergie and Julianne Hough is because they are friends of Cheryl and she would feel comfortable with them. It is amazing the amount of ‘bending’ Simon will do for this woman, if Mezghan got half of those efforts it would be too much. Simon is not replacing Cole but picking one other (as Reid let slip) to go with Cheryl on the Panel. If I said to you I did not think an artist could sing or was talented, would I be called jealous? probably not in the real world, just my opinion which 75% of people believe. But if anything is said about Queen Cheryl you are jealous because you want to be her. Simon ‘Fix’ Cowell appears to have gone into a ‘middle age crisis’ period – pathetic. I don’t blame Ashley anymore because he has had and worn the t-shirt already and he was still looking elsewhere (much to a lot of men’s amazement but Simon Cowell had a lot to do in their break up and her mother. Cheryl Cole is pushing 28 years old? – grow up Tweedy. USA call us haters, people who are jealous whatever but we would pat her on the back if we thought she deserved it but personally I don’t and personally I think she has race issues also. I certainly wouldn’t want her mentoring me if I had to choose out of 4 Judges. Most men just want to (you know what) with Cheryl and that is it (eye candy). How anyone can compare Cheryl Cole with J-Lo, Mariah Carey or Gloria Estefan is unbelievable to me. The sooner you realise the USA X Factor has now become the ‘Simon and Cheryl’ show, forget about the contestants – their ‘rapport’ as they call it is (sic). Thbey should get a room and stop asking real stars to talk to Cheryl or be in the same room so they can say Cheryl has a new best mate. Latest was Gwenyth Paltrow, who next? I’ll be watching American Idol.
