EXCLUSIVE: NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt didn’t want to make major changes to his development team until after the upfronts next month. But I hear at least one move is already in the works: that NBC’s head of comedy Jeff Ingold is expected to leave the network, and hot Sony TV comedy executive Tal Rabinowitz is in line to replace him. Also it’s looking increasingly likely that 20th Century Fox TV EVP Jennifer Nicholson Salke could join her close friend Greenblatt at NBC as entertainment president after the upfronts.
Rabinowitz has been SVP comedy at Sony TV and a rising star at the studio, overseeing some of the highest-profile comedy projects including The Big C, one of the last series developed and picked up by Greenblatt while he was entertainment president at Showtime. In addition to comedy, Rabinowitz has overseen digital development and programming for Sony. She started her career at the weblet WB. Rabinowitz and husband Terence Carter are poised to become quite the power TV network couple: he heads the drama development department at Fox.
As for Ingold, he’s served as EVP comedy at NBC since 2008. There has been speculation he might eventually join Bill Lawrence’s production company at Warner Bros as the two have a great relationship going back to the days when Ingold served as the exec on Lawrence’s NBC comedy Scrubs. Ingold has been at NBC for more than a decade and has served as a comedy executive at NBC/UMS since 2002. He also has a longtime relationship with Greenblatt as David Janollari’s assistant at the duo’s production company, Greenblatt Janollari Studio.

SO well deserved, Tal is a true gem in this town, NBC would be EXTREMELY lucky to have her
Agreed. She is one of the best!
Hot indeed.
Hot? Please. She’s smoking!
Yay. Finally. Smart people SHOULD be in charge.
Smoking? Please. She’s a certified 3 alarm fire!
LOVE TAL! Sure she’s hot – but she’s also smart and nice & cool. Natalie Portman will play her in the movie
Really? This is going to become all about what she looks like? Get a grip.
NBC’s loss is another’s gain…Ingold is a sweetheart and great to pitch to.
Yes, because he has no taste or comedic sense, which would account for the comedy graveyard NBC has been filling up for the last 3 years. I doubt he said no to anything, so I’m sure he was fabulous to pitch to.
You must like pitching to squirrels in the park, too.
She’s smart and sassy and–in a world of bad note-givers–really knows how to work with creatives. Good for you, Tal!
GREAT MOVE. TAL IS A TALENTED EXEC. INGOLD IS NOT.
Ingold is largely a political animal who has never demonstrated any good creative instincts.
Jeff is a good guy, sorry to see him go, but if it is Tal, NBC will be in good shape. She is smart, nice and has a great sense of humor.
After the Paul Reiser show, you’d think they’d offer him a lifetime contract. Where’s the loyalty?
dumbest comment ever. I’m sure Mr. Reiser was fairly compensated for Mad About You, and doesn’t need nor deserve pity from anyone.
Pretty sure that Clay was being ironic…
Tal is truly one of the best executives in town! And always a pleasure to do business with!
Tal has saved my life on more than one occassion. She’s the most highly regarded TV executive in Hollywood. If true, it couldn’t happen to a better person.
Wow – so she’s an EMT as well??
whatever happened to the good old days when a hot girl would have to sleep her way to these jobs instead of earning it for their taste and hard work.
And… POW! Post Of the Week.
Salke is vindictive and much of “her” success is due to topper Dana Walden being VERY hands on. But stale NBC could use a change … Rabinowitz will spice that up and then some – she’s a FANTASTIC executive!
Wow. How awesome. The lowest rated major network is going after someone who developed garbage at the even lower rated WB. The networks should just stop making prime time shows and just run news and sports. It’s the only thing anyone watches then for anyway. Except for CBS which runs shows for the AARP crowd and gets decent ratings doing it.
Proof is in the pudding. NBC comedy sucks a fat one and Sony isn’t exactly a murderer’s row over there. Tal’s great, but let’s hope you don’t just mine the well of the same crap-trap we’ve been getting for the past few years. Use your new position to get new voices. When you’re in last place, you should be thinking outside the box. No more Tannenbaum-esque garbage please.
EXACTLY!
Good for Tal. She’s smart, down to Earth, and she has amazing taste. I really hope this is true.
Love Jeff too. He had a good run. working with Bill would be a good move for him.
Jeez, so Hollywood by acclamation is all for the move? That’s absurd. Who are all these commenters? Are you the same person?
Based on my personal experience and word of mouth I have to say that both of these people, Tal & Jeff, are completely tone deaf when it comes to what works in network comedy. Does anyone in their right mind think Big C would work on a mainstream network? No, it would not.
If I had just awoken from a 20-year coma and read these comments I’d think that NBC has been dominating the ratings for decades and was celebrating yet another brilliant move. Folks, NBC is a big, heaping pile of shit, new regime same as the old, and your comments suggesting otherwise make me laugh out loud.
NBC’s comedy development lately has been awful (with the exception of “Community” and that’s not a success at all). It’s not surprising that Ingold would be going. I haven’t been terribly impressed with Sony’s comedy output in the last few years either, split as it is between unpopular shows (like “Community,” again) and mainstream but not very good shows (“Rules of Engagement”). But NBC’s future depends more on Greenblatt than the people he hires, I guess.
She’s gold for discovering new talent and risking on deals THAT ALWAYS pull through.
Is Jennifer Nicholson Salke liked by the creatives as well? Whos going to run drama?
