Universal at the start of February debuted its first trailer for the upcoming Judd Apatow-produced Bridesmaids, starring SNL‘s Kristin Wiig. But insiders had been complaining to the studio for weeks before that the trailer was not representative of what they claim is a funny comedy. Well, the studio did eventually release a 2nd trailer for the pic set to debut May 13th. Is it an improvement?

Could be worse actually…
I liked the first one. This one wasn’t as funny.
No, it was total shit. 1st frame to last, total shit.
this looks like a disaster. i can’t think of one guy who would think this is remotely funny.
Trailer suffers from a bad choice of music.
much better! i had heard great things about this movie and i’m so glad they got the trailer right. looks hilarious!
Yes, looks not bad. I’ll rank it 3rd on my list of comedies to see this summer behind Hangover 2 and Bad Teacher.
Ok, I don’t think I’m the target audience for this but that did make me laugh. Just saying. Might be funny. Looks at least worth reading reviews and considering going to see.
They’ve improved it so much… it went from a negative 9 to a negative 7. Good work Universal marketing department!
I don’t understand the complaints here. The first trailer was one of the better comedy scenes I’ve seen in a while, certainly funnier than this one. This thing looks pretty funny, don’t understand the hating
Much better than the trailer I saw in the theater…that showed the whole damn movie. This works.
Saw this tonight at an advance screening. Very funny. Really effective combination of gross-out gags, dark humor and romantic comedy elements that should give it decent legs at the box office.
Why is a trailer on Universal’s official YouTube channel not in HD? Why would I want to watch a film trailer in 360p? Jesus Christ why don’t we bring back Real Player and dial-up while we’re at it.
I still don’t get why three wedding movies are opening within 2 weeks of one another (something borrowed and jumping the broom on may 6th and this one on the 13th. This is also bad timing as hangover 2 is opening a couple weeks after. After months of nothing coming out — they go head to head to head now? studios positioning movies should be fired!
“jumping the broom” doesn’t really count. White people don’t care about it.
After seeing this I have to agree with you. This movie would be much better suited for a mid-July or August opening..
i’m sorry, but this trailer is not any better. i feel like they’ve shown all the remotely funny scenes and they aren’t even that funny. for a movie with such a great cast i think this trailer (and the old one) just falls short.
Couldn’t agree more. I kind of feel like this is proof you can’t polish a turd and call it a diamond.
Not gonna watch this trailer nor the film till someone explains how a half black bride has no black wedding guests.
There are black wedding guests/family members in the movie.
Maybe they only showed the white half of her guest list?
Maybe she disowned her black relatives. I’m pretty close to doing the same and I’m not even bi-racial.
Maybe she was adopted by White parents?
Also I am Latino and my best friends are White. Am I supposed to ensure I have other ethnicities represented at my future wedding?
Maybe she’s adopted?
Maybe because the majority of the black community shunned her for not being “black enough” so she has mostly white friends?
Now, now, I counted three black people in the background of the reception scene. There weren’t waitstaff either. My exclusively white group of friends and I are looking forward to seeing this.
Wanda Sykes was busy
looks fantastic to me. i’m a male comedy writer. hate to pull this card, but i feel the anti-female comedian bias is at play here. imagine if this featured an all male cast? you’d be saying it was a guaranteed hit.
You’re a comedy writer and you thought this trailer was funny? Oh, dear …
Actually, the ONLY reason I might go see it is Chris O’Dowd.
I am a male comedy writer as well and this looks like shit. It has nothing to do with me disliking women. It has to do with me disliking shit.
Males make shit too. Due Date, Napolean Dynomite, and Stepbrothers come to mind. It doesn’t matter if you’re male or female, everybody poops.
Stepbrothers was shit and you’re a comedy writer in Hollywood?
You thought Napoleon Dynamite was shit? Wow, I can’t wait not to hire you.
You are a comedy writer and think this is funny? This looks awful and Kristin Wiiig is not a movie star. She is not that funny ever. In fact her and Russell Brand should have a lunch and figure out a TV show to do on NBC.
Maybe this concept could be funny with male actors. The notion of men trying (and failing) to plan their best friend’s wedding could be funny.
Well, the birth control line, “I ate Saturday” wasn’t bad, right?
Hard to tell how “Bridesmaids” will end up, but I’m rooting for this all-female comedic lineup to do OK.
That way maybe better comedies for women will stand a fighting chance down the road. If this flops, then it means the likely deluge of more lame comedies along the lines of male-centric (but ferociously unfunny) “The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard” and remake hells such as “Arthur” starring that crazy British dude of cantankerous pseudo humor(lessness).
I’ve seen the finished movie at a screening and the “I ate Saturday” line (in fact, that entire scene/subplot) was cut.
The guy in the scene (Kristen Wiig’s “date” for the wedding), is her boyfriend in real life, Brian Petsos, so I’m not sure why she couldn’t save his cameo from being cut. The woman on the plane who says “I had a dream last night that we went down…you were in it” is Annie Mumolo, Wiig’s co-writer on the movie.
The movie’s funny; it’s a little long in that typical Apatow way, but it’s pretty consistently funny throughout. Chris O’Dowd is really charming and likeable in it. It has a little more heart to it than “Hangover” (probably due to the director, Paul Feig, who worked on “Freaks and Geeks”).
“I ate Saturday” was the only line that could be considered remotely funny in that whole trailer. Looks goddamn awful.
Is it just me or have I seen everything in that trailer from the already released material? Universal is not doing too well a job of promoting their movies right now…
so in. can’t wait.
please god, let’s some ladies show the fuck up for this one b/c I don’t want more Kate Hudson/ Heigl/ Sex In The City bullshit.
we deserve better comedies and should support them when they happen.
or… we’ll just get another decade of vin diesel humping the hood of a car movies.
Exactly. I’m so in as well. I thought the first trailer was funnier but I will go see any movie that shows women friends as they really are (not like SiTC just talking about men)…
I love the moment when they’re both goofing around with chocolate on their teeth. This is actually how women friends act with each other.
I’m with you on that one, the wife and I watched the trailer and this is the kind of comedy we’d pay to go see in theaters. Plus, I really like Kristin Wiig, who is by far the best thing in SNL (not saying much though, I admit)… So enough with the hating
I caught this Film at SxSw. It played right after PAUL so i stuck around cause i was tired and didn’t feel like hitting the streets. Wasn’t that excited for the film. Didn’t love the first trailer. Or this one for that matter. But it’s actually pretty good. It made me laugh and it’s very watchable. There are some wild moments that kill. The trailer doesn’t do it justice. Not sure what Universal needs to do about that or why Finke is hating on it but i hope Uni figures it out. We need people in theaters.
Someone really ought to do a parody of the pretentious comments on this site.
Loved it. And the first one too. I guess they stuck in the burp for the dudes. But it’s girlpower all the way and yay!
Really, you guys think that food poisoning crap was funny? Burps and farts, hey, girls can be just as dumb and not funny as dudes. Oh joy.
Holy Crap, call the EPA, we have an endangered species: an R-rated movie.
You have to grade it on a lower curve since it’s gear toward women. So if they find films like Sex and the City hilarious then this would be edgy them.
I don’t know if this is even geared toward hetrosexual women, this could be made for the bull dyke type demo, based on the look of the cast. They should run a lot of TV ads during WNBA games.(not that they’re televised.)
First trailer seemed geared for a universal adudience and had very mild chuckles at best. Second trailer slightly improved by less Rudolph more Wigg.
I’m sick of SNL cast for that batch and I’m sick of Apatow. Even thought it’s up(down) to the female type humor, I don’t see the audience for this film. Women are the ones who seem to like the tired rom-com formula, and show no signs in wanting a comedy made for them, also Wigg is a little long in the tooth and isn’t a proven lead for that type of audience. She recently flopped in MacGruber. But who knows they may mindlessly go to a film because it’s about a wedding.
Or they may “mindlessly” go to a film because the reviews from SXSW have been stellar and paint this as one of the must-see films of the summer. Word-of-mouth from preview screenings has also been excellent. I think the fact that this is a female-oriented comedy is making some people write it off before even seeing it.
Wow – you must not interact with many women. It’s ok – Don’t be bitter.
Anything you’re NOT sick of? More awful opinions would be sweeeet
Better title: Maid of Dishonor
Sorry, but the first one was way, way better. It had a flow and lots of laughs. This is a series of disjointed blah scenes without any direction known, such as when she takes a swig of wine. In the first one we knew why; this time it’s thrown in from the wrong scene. Blah.
We were just trying to make a funny movie starring a bunch of funny women. Didn’t mean to create so much deadline.com controversy. Yikes. I still love you all.
Don’t worry, Paul. Everyone I know is super-excited to see this film and going on early buzz from preview screenings and SXSW, we have a lot to look forward to. Congratulations on the positive reviews, BTW!
