Fiore Films made the announcements today at a NYC press conference attended by John Gotti Jr as well as the already cast John Travolta and already attached director Nick Cassavetes. The biopic, titled Gotti: Three Generations, begins shooting in October with an eye to a late 2012 release. Until now, the film had no financier, but today the independent production company announced it will finance the film itself, but declined to say how much it will budget. Producer Marc Fiore says that Joe Pesci has now joined the cast as John Gotti Sr’s deputy Angelo Ruggiero, and Lindsay Lohan (newly with ICM) is in talks for a role.
The production will cast Gotti Jr “within the next week or two,” Fiore says. This is the first film about the Dapper Don being made with the cooperation of his son and will show the infamous mobster as “an iconic figure in American history,” says Fiore. But Cassavetes says that he’ll show Gotti Sr’s “warts.” Gotti Jr says the script shows his dad was “a man’s man” who “paid for every sin he may or may not have committed.” Unlike other projects that told the family’s story “from a journalistic or government viewpoint,” Gotti Jr says this biopic will show that “Everybody’s a victim. …
There a lot of ups and downs. A lot of tears. And a lot of happiness.” Travolta is playing the one-time Gambino crime family boss who was convicted in 1992 of five murders, loan sharking, illegal gambling, obstruction of justice, bribery and tax evasion. Travolta called this ”probably the most interesting untold story in this country,” adding that Gotti Sr was “filled with dichotomies.” Travolta claims Lohan ”happens to be a very big fan of mine,” and added, ”I’ve always thought she was gorgeous and talented and filled with a lot of depth.” Travolta’s daughter, Ella Bleu Travolta, will have a featured role in the film.

Hell yeah, Joe Pesci.
Hell no, Lindsay Lohan.
Okay has anyone read the script. I presume John Gotti Jr. was the writer. Is he a writer? What has he written before that was produced. Its all about the story. Nic is also a great writer perhaps, he is planning a major re-write. I am a fan of Lindsay in spite of all her troubles. Travolta is an excellent choice. Pesci hell yeah. OK I can see the big push at Cannes foreign pre-sales. Hype it up. John Gotti was a thug but he was no Meyer Lansky, Sam Giancana, Capone, Bugsy, Bonnano, Gambino or Lucky Luciano, these were the men who created empires. Gotti and Sammy brought it down!
filled with dichotomies.
filled with depth.
Do either of these make sense?
You’ll have to ask the dead people.
He “paid for every sin, he may or may not have committed”? What a crock.
Hopefully this will encourage Lohan to clean up her act.
Lindsay is part italian
^ doesn’t that depend on who is in her at any given time?!
Not many people know this but Kathy Hilton is half Italian, which makes Paris Hilton part Italian. Vanessa Minillo is part Italian too. There are a lot of people that have Italian in them. For instance, I am half-Italian.
Is that your BETTER half?
This sounds like a campy, cheesy disaster!
I can’t wait.
But isn’t Lohan going to jail? Even if she isn’t, what the hell are they thinking?!
I believe I heard she’s a friend of the Gotti family and they wanted her in the role? Hmmmm, are the producers horses accounted for?
Lindsay Lohan is physically believable as one of the NY mob girls….she can play a mob related role. There’s also Harvey Keitel who lives in NYC, he can play one of the raunchy, rough, quiet killers. Edward Norton might be an interesting choice to play Gotti Jr, he can gain weight for the role, plus Norton is very talented and a very good actor with lots of substance, he’s usually good in dark, heavy roles…have to film this NY style or it won’t turn out right, this can’t be a ” Hollywood ” mob movie, people wouldn’t believe it. It has to accurately portray the people from NY authentically, not in acting way either, it has to be very real. If done right, it can make money, just by fascination people will want to see it…a truthful look into the inside lifestyle of the NY maffia, but from their perception this time. Nick goes from the Notebook to John Gotti?:) Interesting:)
If u saw Alpha Dogs (which I really like) He can do gangsta well.
This is shaping up to be as great as a Millenium/ Nu Image Production. (Hoping my sarcasm translates…)
I grew up in the five towns and went to high school with a lot families whose businesses paid tribute, literally, to Gotti. He was a thug and a criminal; a scumbag. A man’s man?? Are you freakin’ kidding me?? Anyone who says that deserves a Brooklyn-sized beating.
You’re right. I’m 75 percent Italian. And, I liked mob tv shows/films. However, mobsters of any ethnicity are scum bags. Not only mob people or affiliates are killed by mobsters. Many lives have been ruined by the mafia. John Gotti should have been shot before the cancer killed him.
lindsay could never be as good as lorraine bracco
Isn’t Lindsay Lohan facing a felony trial and a probation violation? I know the California court system has thus far proven itself to be something of a joke as far as Lohan is concerned, but is she just assuming that the total jail/prison time will be less than 5 months? Or is she just assuming that she’s not doing any time at all?
If she does sign a contract, how much would her impending court trials impact her insurance costs? I can’t imagine an independently financed film would have to budget for that.
She’s a celebrity. There’s a second class of laws for them in California. Of course it doesn’t matter.
Lohan huh? Well I guess the goal here isn’t quality!
Well this has the potential to be a camp classic I suppose. OK no, it will probably just be terrible.
Lohan? No thank you.
“…filled with dichotomies.”
Pretentious ignorance. Gotti was an indiscriminate, murderous beast. That won’t stop a romantic spin to the story.
I would love to see the conditions of any contract she is probably going to have to sign off on if she gets a role. The public scrutiny she is going to be under could actually be good for the film. Lindsay at least brings some attention to any thing she does and who knows, maybe that will be the thing that gets her on set.
I’m all for Lohan getting this movie. She’s truly talented, very sexy, and is ready for a comeback!
Give the role to Pia Toscano!!!!
How is this production going to get insurance on Lindsay?
This project screams for Martin Scorsese as director!
Otherwise–forget it.
I guess no one else is as fed up as I am with seeing/hearing Pesci hit this same note over, and over, and over, and over…
Hey, I love to watch the old faves: Just watched “Casino” last week, and “Goodfellas” a couple of weeks before that. But with all the others beyond those that that were virtually identical characters, and still more and more and of the same?
No, thanks.
what, no mention of “Stuttering” John Melendez, who is a co-producer of this project? Howard Stern has been talking about this film every day on his show.
I suggest the production find parts for Artie Lange, Jackie Martling, and Susannah & John Melendez. Also Allison Norris please.
hollywood never tires of making fairy tales for sociopaths. should play well in prisons.
I smell something…..its Oscar
No, actually you smell Oscar running away as fast as he can, screaming in horror all the way. You were close though.
It’s all said here. Gotti was not only a rampaging sociopathic killer, he basically disrespected the code of Cosa Nostra by going public image. He also broke the rule that killing someone for no proper cause is a good way to get to the top. The only reason we’re talking about him today is for one of infamy not fascination.
Mr. Cassavetes is the only one of respect and integrity that is attached to this film. I hope he gets his artistic needs fulfilled having to deal with Travolta’s “creative side” on set.
This isn’t John Cassavetes you’re talking about. This is his son, Nick.
Not the same thing.
Interesting.
Lohan will play Gotti wife it seems, and the real mrs Gotti really approves this casting..and actually why not Lindsey with all her troubles should have more depth than before..So this could help for making really good acting..interesting project anyway.
Actually Lindsey is supposed to be Gotti’s daughter Victoria, who was in the reality show with her sons “Growing Up Gotti”. They were both at the press conference today with matching blond gangsta hair. I think it has more potential if it doesn’t take itself to seriously. He was a bad man who did horrible things. But all people seem to remember is “Dapper Dan”. Make it more “My Blue Heaven” instead of “Goodfellas” and you may have a shot.
