28 Weeks Later helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo will direct a reinvention of The Crow, the 1994 adaptation of the comic book series by James O’Barr. Relativity Media is making the movie with producer Edward R. Pressman. Brandon Lee, son of the martial arts great Bruce Lee, starred in the original. The film is expected to start production in the fall. Fresnadillo also directed the Spanish-language film Intacto. He’s in post on the Clive Owen starrer Intruders. Pic’s produced by Pressman, Jeff Most, Relativity’s CEO Ryan Kavanaugh, Apaches’ Enrique López Lavigne and Belén Atienza. Relativity’s Tucker Tooley will be executive producer.

joseph gordon levitt would not be thought of, but would be good.
Since production is scheduled to start so soon, does this mean they’ll be using Nick Cave’s screenplay?
I agree on Joseph Gordon Levitt he’d make a great choice. The character looks very jokeresque… also look at Joe in “Hesher.”
Other suggestions: Luke Evans,Jackson Rathbone, Jack Huston, and if you want a different flavor then Jonathan Villalpando. He’s someone I definitely have my eye on, if you aren’t watching him, I sugest you check him out too. He has a very dark look which is what anyone will need for the character.
Any of these or maybe some other unknown would be great. The ultimate (impossible choice) Johnny Depp. Good luck guys and please just make a GREAT film.

Why does The Crow need rebooting?
Can people please stop asking why X needs rebooting? The answer is simple and always the same. Because it will make money.
They THINK it will make money.
Why does any movie that is rebooted nowadays need to be rebooted? The answer is simple. It is all about money in Hollywood and The Crow franchise is huge.
Exactly!
The comic book is very different in style than the Brandon Lee movie. Although I disagree with this reboot, there is another stylistic approach to this story that could be interesting. The Brandon Lee movie was heavily influenced by Tim Burton’s “Batman.”
Didn’t you read the post? It’s not a “reboot,” it’s a “reinvention.” Totally different.
That’s studio talk.
Tikkanen, EXACTLY! WHY? Damnit, are you people out of ideas?
This just feels wrong. Such a tragic accident on the original… isn’t this disrespectful?
Accidents happen. We learn from them and move on. A stuntman died on “The Dark Knight”, we don’t stop making Batman films.
Besides, the original had a few sequels and a TV spinoff. I think “disrespect” is out the window.
Is it any more disrespectful than the 3 sequels that followed the original?
There are so many other original ideas out there. So many talented screenwriters. This is nothing more than a bid for guaranteed cash off of a bankable franchise. Not that this is new anymore, it’s all Hollywood does these days.
I get the idea of updating things. The remake of 3:10 to Yuma was a great example of taking something that truly deserved attention and giving it a shot for a new generation to enjoy. But The Crow? Seriously, the original was amazing and does not need to be done again.
Oh, why do I bother. There’s no stopping the current league of Hollywood executives who think that their control of the purse strings automatically translates to creative talent on their part.
Tinkham, you could argue that the three sequels and spin-off TV series were “disrespectful” too, but they weren’t. Not especially good, let alone necessary, but certainly not disrespectful. There’s been a fifth Crow film in various stages of development for years, so this doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
28 weeks later turned out great, and Intacto is pretty genius. Crazy tightrope walk of suspending disbelief, mood and tension that just works. I’m excited to see what he does with the Crow. I have a feeling it will be dark moody and actually have great performances, rather than some of these other reboots with some hot shitty teen TV actor. I was actually surprised it took Fresnadillo so long to get another movie after Intacto came out.
Why isn’t anyone pointing out that this used to be one of Miramax’s biggest franchises, and one that The Weinstein Company took with them when they left (if I’m not mistaken). So the bigger question is not “Why are they remaking it?” but rather “Why is The Weinstein Company not invovled in this at all?”
Maybe they missed a payment on the rights much like it is said they did on “Sin City” another huge franchise they took when they left Disney.
Makes more sense to cast an Asian-American who has a feel like Brandon Lee. Beat to find a guy familiar to Americans.
Now, they’re called “reinventions”?
Call a spade a spade – they’re REMAKES!
I hope they pair this with a “reboot” of Enter the Dragon in a double feature called “screw you Lee family!”
This is extremely disrespectful to Brandon Lee, his family and true fans; the same people (Jeff Most and Edward Pressman) were involved in the original and handled production VERY poorly which is why there were so many accidents(crew getting electrocuted, long hours w/o break, crew falling from sets pieces, etc.) and finally the tragic fatality that took Brandon’s life. He put his life and eventually gave it for this role and to dismiss it by replacing him so casually is equivalent to someone trying to touch the Joker after Heath Ledger died. Nice to know there’s no common decency left in the media….I guess we knew that already. I hope it tanks.
