Julia Ormond has been tapped for a season-long arc on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. She will play the only major new character that will be introduced in the crime drama’s 10th and final season on USA Network. Appearing in all eight episodes of the season as a guest star, Ormond will play Dr. Paula Severin, a brilliant police psychologist who will be conducting mandatory sessions with Detective Goren (Vincent D’Onofrio), helping him unravel his tortured past.
Ormond’s casting comes just two weeks before the Season 10 premiere May 1, with production well under way. How will she appear in all episodes? She will start right away and, because her scenes are contained mainly within her office, the producers had planned to film them together, apart from the rest of the action. Shooting those scenes is expected to take a few days.
The 10th season of Criminal Intent, created and executive produced by Dick Wolf and developed by René Balcer, features the return of detectives Goren and Eames (Kathryn Erbe). Terminated for insubordination a year ago, Goren has been reunited with his long-time partner at the behest of new Major Case Captain Joseph Hannah (Jay O. Sanders), a friend of Goren’s since the Academy days. Ormond, repped by Gersh and Chris Prapha, recently co-starred in the HBO movie Temple Grandin, a role that earned her an Emmy. She will next be seen in the feature My Week With Marilyn alongside Michelle Williams and Emma Watson.

Glad she’s getting her due…always underrated. Check out her work in Smila’s Sense of Snow.
Always thought Ormond was not appreciated enough. Sounds like a good role for her. As for Smila’s Sense of Snow it was way before the Dragon Tattoo books in the realm of Scandanavian crime thrillers. And Hoeg’s latest book – Borderliners – is way better than Larssons books.
love her! i’m also excited to see the return of goren and eames.
Wow. She’s going to shoot an entire season’s worth of scenes in “a few days”? LMAO! Poor woman. She deserves better than this sorry excuse for a gig. Clearly, she’s not going to have anything to do if she’s going to be stuck on one set and basically perform a season-long cameo not unlike those name actors who shoot a few scenes in one day for a little indie flick and have the director scattered the scenes throughout the film to make the audience think they worked longer.
That would actually be good news as far as I’m concerned. I really don’t want to see the therapy storyline to takeover the show.
The production seems quite rushed. I don’t know if that’s a good sign as far as quality goes (it reminds me of how fast they cast and recast LOLA).
The plus in the “sorry excuse for a gig ” is that she will get to film all of her scenes ALONE with Vincent D’Onofrio ! “Poor woman ” ? Lucky woman ! Unfortunately for her it is in his contract that Goren will never have a romantic relationship so there’s the catch.
Great actress, sucky part. Dead show.
Remember when Ormond was supposed to be The Next Big Thing, a trajectory derailed by dreadful movies like “First Knight” and “Sabrina”?
Well, Dick Wolf’s dying franchise — that should’ve died five years ago — isn’t going to resurrect Ormond’s career and make her The Next Next Big Thing.”
About the best she can hope for is that Americans finally get it into their pretentious and ill-informed little heads that her surname’s correctly pronounced OR-mond, not “or-MOND.”
Didn’t Mr. Sanders play a killer in Season 4? And now he’s playing the captain? WTF?
I think this show was the absolutely the best in the “Law & Order” franchise. Goren was the best!Ames was the balance that glued them together to solve the crimes. I will miss them
I think Goren’s “tortured past” is what makes the show worth watching. Here’s to Bobby remaining the dark sided Columbo that he is. Otherwise the writer’s boilerplate liberal condescension would be too much to take.
It may be the last season but it’s the BEST Cast and Best of the Law and Order Shows, in my humble opinion. I do like them all though.
I am so glad this series is back – just sad that it is the final season! I love the whole L&O franchise. I was sorry to see the original go off without a finale. I thought it had a winning cast and awesome stories. LOLA doesn’t seem as strong since NY was a big a character as the actors. CI saved NBC during the writer’s strike. Wish this wasn’t the end!
