-______- When will it stop?!
His stuff makes money and yet I have never met one person who watches his shows or sees his films. Who ARE these people?
You must not live in the south
Are you serious? Who sees these? Jesus, you must not know many black folks. That would be who “these people” ARE, Lee! I’ve never seen any of his flicks either but I do know quite a few people who have seen them and loved them. Come on.
I’ve no desire to defend him and his low-brow product but he has tapped into a neglected market (black church goers who just want to laugh) and he’s the one laughing all the way to the bank.
Why don’t you try getting out of LaLa land and you might have a clue who “these people” are.
More people would like to go to the movies than people with kids and teenage boys.
I’m beginning to think that Tyler Perry is genetically incapable of anything better than this drivel. It’s sad, because his demo probably could handle something more interesting, more challenging. But no one seems to push him much. It’s tragic to have the platform he has and to do so little with it. Tyler! Would it kill you to even try?
Um, I, AlexCross.
This man must be stopped!!!
Can’t wait to see him “fall for a woman.”
Please Tyler Perry…PLEASE let this not include a “son who needs a father figure”, a “young girl who needs discipline” or a “grandma who forces her grandkids to go to church and prays the pastor will fall in love with her ‘down on her luck’ daughter” who also happens to be a “single mother of two”.
All of the above EXCEPT “a son who needs a father figure.” Uplifting black men and boys is secondary to Tyler’s agenda.
Don’t like it, don’t see it.
stop the insanity. it’s shameful that hollywood perpetuates this ridiculous notion that he’s the only black artist (outside of the entire Smith family) they can make a movie with.
You can look no further than our own community for the success of this clown. We do not demand excellence from our people in any meaningful area of American life. We settle for what is there, killing achievement and the quest for quality. We are so beaten down by years of struggle that we no longer care to join the mainstream. We have built a world of our own filled with “black stuff” that’s our own and if it’s Perry’s shitty films, crappy auto-toned music or the Laughable BET “shows.” At least, it’s ours. Right now in the black entertainment world, the best filmmaker is the one who’s allowed to make films.
^^^^*dingdingding* And we have a winner.
That’s a defeatist attitude if I’ve ever seen one. Speak for yourself. Holy smokes.
There are several successful black filmmakers and artists putting out quality material right now…
F. Gary Gray
The Wayans Bros.
John Singleton
Antoine Fuqua
The Hughes Bros.
Chris Rock
(TV) Shonda Rhimes
Oprah
I agree, TP is NOT the best black filmmaker out there, he’s simply knows his audience the best and insists on doing his thing — away from Hollyweird.
…and BET does turn out trash.
Wow… Great comment… While I’m a definite critic of Tyler, I try to be one that’s routing for him. With that in mind, your assessment is one that I have to agree with. My hope is that Perry will make active strides to make 34th Street Films what it’s supposed to be – a place where Tyler uses his name recognition and unparallelled influence in this industry to bring other minority artist to the forefront. Unfortunately, as long as he’s committed to being the sole creative force behind everything his name is on, that 34th Street Films will never realize it’s vision. It might bode well for Tyler’s learning curve and his individual interests, but it makes it incredibly difficult for TRULY talented emerging artist to break in. Rainforest Films seems to be the only viable alternative in that case.
Everyone stop hating. Go build your own brand and build your own relationship with Lionsgate and put your own movies out at your own studios. How bout that?
i so agree. if you got room to hate then go prove yourself =)

Who’s the better filmmaker Tyler Perry or John Hughes?
You do “you” let Tyler do “Him.” There’s a place for haters and it’s not up!!! Display your expression of success and we will be the judge.
People unfortunately must hate on good film artist such as Tyler at least he has something going on in his life. I advice all those that criticize his films to stop bickering and watch something else.
