Gotti: Three Generations, the John Gotti biopic that indie production company Fiore Films announced last week, has lost director Nick Cassavetes, who had been attached but apparently has a scheduling conflict with another film. The Gotti project, which will star John Travolta as the Dapper Don as well as Joe Pesci and possibly Lindsay Lohan, was set to go into production in October with an eye on a 2012 release. During last week’s press conference, executive producer Marc Fiore said he will self-finance the film, though he declined to say how much will be budgeted. Cassavetes, who attended the media gathering last week with Travolta and Fiore, is currently directing the indie drama Yellow, which stars Sienna Miller and Ben Foster.

Maybe Roger Christian is available.
Can you say, not happening? Shocked if this one gets off the ground in its current incarnation.
Cassavetes will be spared the train wreck this is shaping up to be. The casting is horrible and any attempt to focus on anyone other than John Gotti Sr. will prove to be a storytelling blunder and disappointment.
Junior’s been through a lot himself but his dad was a tough act to follow. Love him or hate him Gotti Sr. and his siblings believed in what they represented unlike so many. I’m not saying he’s a hero but it’s so rare to find people who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of principle alone. So rare that no matter where you find it you have to salute it. Clearly the man wasn’t motivated solely by money which may be difficult to comprehend for those who live on their knees for a fee.
No disrespect to the Gotti family but when the public hears the name Gotti only one man comes to mind and he earned that notoriety the hard way. If this isn’t going to be about him then it’s a sham and besides, Travolta can’t do the part justice.
The Gottis have a story to tell for sure but it doesn’t seem like they’re ready to tell it.
No, Curtis, I don’t have to salute it, as you say. He probably wasn’t motivated solely by money. There’s the power he got off on and the ego-massaging that comes with his position. And the fear-mongering.
The Nazis also believed in what they were doing. Would you say they are worthy of respect, too? Or how about the drug cartels of Mexico? The mafia is no better than either of those groups. All prey on the weak. Ask the business owners who are forced to pay off the mafia if they think Gotti is worthy of respect. Fear, yes. Respect, no.
I saw Travolta at a press conference talk about the similarities between he and John Gotti, mentioning the fact that both had lost a son. Yes, John, but, if I’m not mistaken, in Gotti’s case the neighbor who accidentally ran his son over suddenly “disappeared”. What a coincidence. I’m sure Gotti had nothing to do with that. Just interesting timing.
So, Mr. Travolta, please don’t try to make John Gotti out to be any kind of sympathetic person in real life or the movies. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Gotti is responsible for the life he lived and the death and destruction he caused. He wasn’t a victim.
I enjoy a good crime movie but not when the motive is to glamorize the people or the lifestyle.
The guy who accidentally hit Gotti’s kid did disappear.
But thanks to testimony from Gotti’s henchmen, Sammy the Bull, we now know exactly what happened to him.
Gotti’s gang kidnapped the guy and brought him to Gotti in a hideaway. The guy begged for his life, pleading about his own children.
Gotti had a chainsaw! and began chopping up the guy live as he screamed for mercy. The parts were fed to dogs in New jersey.
That’s what Gotti did to the guy.
@Not buying it
You’ve totally taken what I meant in several different directions that I presume you have some personal connection to. I find honor in ACCOUNTABILITY and that’s what the man displayed in accepting his fate and dying in prison. In that respect even people we often despise exhibit a quality hard to find among so-called “good people.”
Clearly, my intent was to highlight the act of embracing one’s fate regardless of how horrible it is understanding that, that is what you signed up for.
In a world rife with hypocrisy I appreciate that QUALITY. Does it dwarf his criminal deeds in any way? Absolutely not, but it’s worth exploring from a cinematic standpoint. That is what we’re discussing isn’t it? A Gotti movie?
Ugh! Gotti was a murderer! Why glorify him? How many people did he kill, main, or emotionally destroy?
Ha-Ha-Ha…. You know probably it’s because he doesn’t want to be associated in any ways with Lindsay Lohan. Who would. Oops, apparently John Travolta has fall that low. Cassavetes is respected director. How on earth he can be in the same movie as Lindsay Lohan. Where everyone will laugh at him and his movie. The people, the critics. No one will talk about the movie. They will only pay attention to Lohan and will trash her “acting”. In every review. Of course he went out when he heard they want to cast her.
She’s a fine actress. Leave the girl alone.
You do kidding, are you? Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen are in that state where they can only play themselves and are incapable to play any other character.
NICK SLEEPS WITH THE FISHES !!! –Now maybe J.T. can do “HAIRSPRAY 11″ more his style
Travolta & Lohan: Two careers that crashed and burned.
Both desperate to get in on the Gotti Goodfella vibe. To these two upstanding truth-tellers, Gotti was a hero.
Nick Cassavetes took a look at HIS career-and told the producers, “I’m outa here!”
Good move, Nick.
Now, you won’t be tainted forever on IMDB with the stench of Travolta, Gotti, and Lohan.
For those of us that had the unfortunate experience of growing up with Jr. I cannot wait foe this self serving project to fail.
She is not a fine actress, she is an okay actress and a freak show. I do agree that everyone SHOULD leave her alone!
Gotti was a thug and a cold blooded murderer. Plain and simple. Not a folk hero. This project looks like a total whitewash. Travolta is about as scary Carole Channing.
They need a fresh approach. I’m so sick of the same 15 directors that direct (what seems like) every movie.
As soon as I heard that Lindsay Lohan was part of this I knew it would be a disaster. Any movie she is part of becomes a big joke.
this film will get tons of publicity from Howard Stern and all the gossip sites. I just hope there are parts for Jackie, Artie and Susanner.
