EXCLUSIVE: Nickelodeon has greenlit a fifth season of its flagship live-action series iCarly. After locking in star Miranda Cosgrove with a new deal, the network has ordered 13 new episodes of the comedy, which will begin production in 2012 for a premiere later that year. The renewal comes on the heels of the most recent episode of iCarly, iOMG, drawing a massive audience of 7.4 million last Saturday. The episode was the most watched basic cable program last week and ranks as basic cable’s top kids’ telecast this year in total viewers. iCarly is in the midst of a two-year pickup. Season 3 is currently airing, with production on Season 4 slated to begin in May.
Created and executive produced by Dan Schneider, iCarly has been a runaway hit for Nickelodeon since the sitcom’s 2007 launch, ranking as Nickelodeon’s top-rated live-action series in total viewers and all key kids and tween demos and spawning ratings record-breaking specials like iGot a Hot Room and iSaved Your Life. “Our audience will be psyched to get more of what they love – new episodes of their favorite show, iCarly,” said Marjorie Cohn, Nickelodeon’s president of original programming and development. A show within a show, iCarly follows Carly Shay (Cosgrove) and her best friends, Sam (Jennette McCurdy), Freddie (Nathan Kress) and Gibby (Noah Munck), as they create a webcast for and about kids their age while grappling with everyday tween problems and adventures. Carly lives with her older brother and guardian Spencer (Jerry Trainor) who produces her web show from a makeshift studio in the loft upstairs. Since hitting stardom with iCarly, Cosgrove also has launched a music career, releasing her first album last year.

Seems strange it’s just 13 episodes. Is Miranda really going to walk away to go to college? To study film?
NO mention of the brother who may be the comedic star of the show?
They said, “Carly lives with her older brother and guardian Spencer (Jerry Trainor) who produces her web show from a makeshift studio in the loft upstairs.”
I am a bit embarrassed to say that i quite enjoy this show… compared to the shows on Disney it’s gold… not that that is saying much.
P.S besides Miranda and Jennette are simply adorable.
I totally love the show… on the rare occasions when I can sneak it in when no one will catch me watching it. they just have such funny little buttons and comebacks. jerry (he was mentioned, btw) & jennette are so funny I do not eat/drink when they’re on screen and Noah has got something to go shirtless on national tv so much. serious balls. and well, miranda typical perfect heroine.
I’m surprised they were willing to commit to a season 5 though.
Heck I’m not a closet iCarly fan, the way I see it, it is my tv and I can watch what I want to watch, other adults besides me watch the show..so watch it in the open and be proud of it.
Why should u be embarrassed 2 admit u like the show? Its a cool and great show and im not even sure anyone would care that u like the show. I luv the show
Read again Time Traveler. They mention Jerry Trainor by name.
It feels like this show has been on a lot longer than 2007 – I concur with TT above, the guy who plays the older brother Spencer is hilarious – Jerry Trainor. I hope he makes it big one day; everything he does or says on that show is funny.
Any mention of the salaries? Last I heard Cosgrove was getting an unbelievable $250K per episode. If it pulls in those numbers, though, I guess she’s worth it. She’s the least entertaining part of the show though, everyone else is solid.
The Disney kids top out at $15,000 an episode.
A season 5 of this show? This show has gotten corny and stale now. I like Victorious and True Jackson better.
Jerry Trainor, Jennette McCurdy, and Nathan Kress are the reasons to watch the show, Miranda is not funny at all and the least talented – iOMG proved that Jennette is the star of the show
i disagree Jack i think that they are all very talented and funny on the show and also you forgot about Noah Munck (Gibby) and Ethan Munck (Guppy) they are also very talened and Ethan is only 5 so it is incredible how great he can act! so i hope you aggree now if you dont then:
:/ )-;
I am sorry to say that, but Noah and Ethan are both bad actors. It’s true. McCurdy makes the show, along with Trainor and Kress.
yeah i dont really like noah or ethan… gibby was way funnier in like season two. now hes just kinda annoying and kinda old like a 65yearold looking, no offense to him… and why is he in like everything now, its not as funny anymore, jennette is great and nathan and jerry and miranda are too, they are the original stars of this show and i want it to stay that way…
I hope you realize you are writing about kids. You are pretty pathetic to write that about child actors.
I agree completely with paul!
Really?
Gosh! I LOVE Miranda and Absolutely ADORE Jennette! They are my favorite 2 actresses EVER! Please don’t be mean Miranda might read this! I think all the cast of icarly are the best! THe girls are adorable and the boys, soo cute!
Best kids’ show on TV!
While the aggregate of Disney Channel’s tween live action efforts has stolen most of the spotlight, star power & ancillary revenue over the last bunch of years, iCarly’s weakest episode is creative light years ahead of anything seen on DC.
And no DC series has had the ratings staying power of iCarly. Hannah flamed out within a few years and Jonas Bros TV entertainment was DOA. Demi Lovato’s real life issues were far more noteworthy than Sonny With a Chance, and Selena’s Wizards of Waverly Place is capable but forgettable.
Side Note: I’ve been wondering…Disney Channel’s best/quality show by far is Suite Life on Deck…which they do not promote as heavily as their other series. Is that because the Sprouse brothers’ management did not sign the kids’ lives away to Disney, and they are therefore not the network priorities/indentured slaves like Jonas, Miley, Selena, et al? Would be curious to know…
I never noticed that little thing you said about Suite Life. It really is true– I mean, with the original Suite Life and Suite Life on Deck, they’ve made a total of 6 seasons and over 100 episodes. It’s a wonder why they aren’t promoted more…
“they are therefore not the network priorities/indentured slaves like Jonas, Miley, Selena, et al?”
It’s clear Nickelodeon’s priorities/indentured slaves are Miranda Cosgrove and Victoria Justice.
“while grappling with everyday tween problems and adventures.”
Really? A lot of teens have those situations crop up?
I love this show, it is NOT just for little kids/girls. It’s not declined with age like most shows on Disney. It’s like the new drake&josh.
Two things- one The show is in it’s 4th season not 3rd. 2nd. Jerry Trainor character Spencer does not produce the show. He is a struggling artist. I absolutely love the show and I don’t have kids. One of the best scripted tv shows on TV. With all the crap that’s on network TV. What a gem Icarly is. It’s not just for kids and Spaghetti tacos anyone?
My favorite show by far. Gotta love the Seddie/Creddie drama. Plus it’s funnier than anything that Disney’s had in a while.
Huh thats odd. Most Nick and Disney shows don’t get any more than 4 seasons. The ones that are just ok or not that good end after 3 or 2 seasons respectively. And the big hits on the same level as iCarly usually only get 4. Still that great news ^^ I am a bit worried that it wont be as good after 4.
xgoutx I wouldn’t know for sure but thats prolly a reason why. All other kids signed to Disney have music careers and are much more popular. Personally though, Suite Life got bad after the 1st second season of the spinoff.
Dan said 24 episodes in season 5 not 13
I don’t want Miranda to just quit, she seems like she loves doing this, she wont get a second chance but she can for collage
I hope season 5 has the very “special” episode that has Sam coming out of the closet to Carly.

REALLY?I mean i know she has had problems with guys on the show and she comes off as a tomboy, bully, tuffgirl but really
I’d say “Wizards” is the best Disney channel show – and has the Emmy to back it up.
As one guest actor on “Suite Life” said, the only direction he ever got was “bigger!”
I must agree that Miranda is not the funniest. However, the show is solid. I love watching it. Even the reruns tend to make me laugh. I am glad to see that there are at least 2 seasons left, but I am curious as to how it will end….
I am so glad there is gonna be a fifth season of iCarly!!! I love this webshow so much!!!!!
I don’t know how in depth the iCarly producers go to explore their demographics. But it would not surprise me to learn that iCarly has a large older audience. I’m in my 50′s and can’t get enough of this show. It is incredibly well-written; Jennette McCurdy is a phenomenal actress with unbelievable depth. The entire cast, from Miranda to Nathan, Noah, Jerry and Jennette, as well as the supporting cast, has developed chemistry that’s reminiscent of the on set chemistry on TV’s original “The Honeymooners.” Thirty years from now, I can imagine a reunion show where the cast reprises their iCarly roles as grown ups dealing with their own tweens and teens. That would make a truly interesting show.
or maybe they will make a spinoff titled “The iCarly Kids”
I believe this is the only show I’ve seen on tv that brings family together in the night to relax their days off from work/school and give everyone a laugh of a life time.
Give credits to all nickelodeon crew, Dan Schneider, and the casts for creating the best show ever on television
Nick would be stupid to cancel this show. I realize it may lose some of its charm as the kids get older, so it can’t go on forever. I don’t know if it would pack the same punch with college kids doing the web show, but as long as they can run it, I think it’ll be Nickelodeon’s big gun.
I don’t see this as a kids’ show, necessarily. It’s good clean fun, and arguably the funniest and most entertaining show of its kind on TV. It’s head and shoulders above any of the other live action sitcoms and provides wholesome family entertainment. I would say the same about Schneider’s show Victorious. Also silly, wholesome, good-natured fun, but again, because the cast is mostly kids, it gets pigeonholed as a “kids’ show.” I know plenty of adults who love both shows. I am one of them.
iCarly Forever !
iCarly is the best show, can you imagine just how much more can be done with a show of this magnitude?
iCarly really has only begun to reach its full potential it has a chance to go down as one of the best family comedy shows in history.
Dan Schneider is a genius to create so many great shows like this I can’t understand how he did it.
iCarly will go on for awhile now and Im very happy for that! There are so many great writers of this show my other favorite is Jake Farrow he is a genius just like Dan.
I want to see iCarly do a theater motion picture in the near future with this television series.
All the power and glory to this show iCarly.
Gotta love it!

Congratulations to iCarly. Great funny show for all ages.
