ABC (1.5/5 in adults 18-49, 4.9 million viewers) won Friday night among adults 18-49 with a consistent ratings performance, topping every night of primetime in the demo (including a tie with Fox’s Kitchen Nightmares at 8 PM). In the 8 PM hour, Shark Tank (1.5/6) hit a season high, up 25% from last week. Newsmagazines Primetime: What Would You Do? (1.4/4) and 20/20 (1.5/5) were flat.
After a four-week hiatus, the CW Friday lineup returned last night for Smallville‘s final five episodes. The veteran comic book-inspired drama (2.3 million, 1.0/3 in 18-49) was up 5% in viewers and 11% in 18-49 from its last original. Supernatural (2.2 million, 0.9/3 in 18-49) was also up 5% in viewers while down a tenth in 18-49.
In its third week, CBS’ Chaos (0.9/3) stopped the bleeding, even with last Friday. It tied as the lowest-rated program of the night with Supernatural and the final season premiere of Friday Night Lights (0.9/3) on NBC, which was down 25% from last season’s debut May 7. Back-to-back Datelines followed (1.2/4, 1.5/5).
After a three-week hiatus, Fox’s Fringe (1.3/4) returned down a tenth from its last original, while Kitchen Nightmares (1.5/6) was flat.

Great for Shark Tank – terrific reality show – deserves to be a bigger hit
Completely agree, excellent show!
Shark Tank is the BEST. Everything you need – humor – suspense – education – drama – not just the best unscripted show, the best show.
SMALLVILLE will be missed, and it has been fantastic this season (and last)… the finale is not to be missed, for both long time fans, newcomers, and Superman lovers.
I love watching Smallville I for one going to miss watching every friday before Supernaturl that was my night to watch TV It is going to be sad to see it go but i will have Supernaturl to watch every Friday!!
NBC brass has to be scratching their heads. They didn’t promote the season premiere of FNL, and no one watched. Strange how that works.
Season 5′s also out on DVD, so most people who cared about the show watched those if they hadn’t watched it on DirectTV.
I know! I was shocked to find out it had aired, I am a fan of the show and had no idea last night was the premiere. I should’ve worked harder to find out but there was no promotion at all…
The final season of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS was already released on DVD on April 5, leaving little reason to watch the NBC broadcasts. (I did anyway, just to pretend that the show isn’t over for a little while longer, but really, what are they thinking with the after-DVD broadcasts?)
i know, i watched the show because it’s in HD on NBC (have never seen DirecTV) and since i was watching Fringe anyway. it’s weird to have great programming on Friday nights. it’s been a while since last season ended, and i cannot believe how much i missed the show until last night.
Not only was FNL not promoted, the DVD set of the entire season was released before NBC aired the first episode.
Smallville should have ended a few years ago really. “What would you do” looks too lame to even bother trying.
We watched Fringe before the Chicago/Vancouver game and it was amazing! Cartoon Nimoy! Also Joshua Jackson and Lance Reddick tripping – must be seen. Admittedly, the pre-game libations may have increased the enjoyment of the LSD laden episode – but I rewatched this morning and it still stands up.
The other problem: it’s already out on DVD, so this is actually the third window. I already saw it via Netflix.
Congrats to Shark Tank. Certainly the smartest reality show on TV….and one of the most entertaining. O’Leary is a star!
Well, Yay for Smallville, and congratulations, but I STILL don’t understand the CW strategy. In this context, the rise of Smallville seems like a huge anomaly to me. The CW takes several long hiatuses, which result in every show on the network being in reruns at the same time. They aren’t even replaced by new programs to retain viewership on the network. No, the entire network goes into reruns for months at a time. Even the most fanatical of viewers aren’t going to stick around for that. This strategy doesn’t make any sense to me! But, yeah, Congrats on Smallville going right for you, CW!
So CBS canceled medium to try Chaos. Great choice CBS. Maybe now you can replay some of Medium’s last season.
Medium needed cancelled. Chaos needs cancelled.
If Fringe’s use of animated characters was initially motivated by Nimoy’s desire to do no more work in front of the camera, I say it was a great solution for fans of both Nimoy and Fringe.
You gay?
Smallville died a few years ago and apparently nobody told them. I am so tired of Lois’s rapid-fire pop-culture puns and the show’s bewildering need to find everybody a partner,Tess and Professor Hamilton, please shoot me now.
As much as I like Gordon Ramsey and every show he’s done from Kitchen Nighmares, Hell’s Kitchen, the F word on BBC, I have to miss Kitchen Nightmnare for Shark Tank. Shark Tank is my favorite show hands down!!! Kevin O’leary is the Simon Cowell of Capitalism. lol I missed Friday’s show, because I had to work and I thought my piece of crap DVD recorder was going to record it. When I found out it didn’t, I cursed at it for about five minutes!! lol
Shark Tank is one of the few shows I watch on TV. It is fantastic. If you have not seen it yet, I would highly recommend watching it. It is amazing how much money can be made by thinking of a simple idea.
