New ‘Man Of Steel’ Television Spot #6
Depp as Tonto? What are they thinking? There are many Native Americans who can play this role! This is like when Mickey Rooney played a Japanese. Sad.
yes because mickey rooney and johnny depp are equatable character actors.
by the way love the same 5 people making the same 5 comments about the godless horror of johnny playing tonto on every single LR post in the history of this blog.
If that’s an insult against Mickey Rooney it’s misplaced. Rooney’s history in Hollywood is fairly obvious. His casting as a Japanese (not to mention the way he played the part) was to say the least insensitive, right up there with casting Marlon Brando as an Okinawan in “Tea House of the August Moon.”
Now it may be that Johnny Depp is part native American as someone else mentions. The thing is that there are many native American actors whose ancestry is a lot more obvious who are better suited to playing this part – Adam Beach comes to mind immediately. Indeed Jay Silverheels, who played Tonto in the TV version of The Lone Ranger, helped to establish the American Indian Actors Workshop, with the goal of encouraging directors and producers to hire native Americans to play native American roles.
don’t blog ever again
Uhhh, Depp is part native american…
Ryan is wrong, it would be the boring ranger with him in the lead. Go with unknowns and make the script and the title the star and thus creating new stars.
They did that the last time. Remember Klinton Spilsbury?
JON HAMM as The Lone Ranger…he was born to play that part!
I can’t imagine a tentpole more boring than this. Perhaps I lack imagination, but this just doesn’t say sure fire franchise to me.
I agree. I just don’t get the thinking behind resuscitating this corny old series. Was anybody waiting for the Lone Ranger to be re-made?
I second that. John Hamm all the way
Well Jon Hamm might be good too
Fu-k yes, JON HAMM!!
It’s an “origin story”–Hamm is too old; unfortuante that he is getting pushed out of a lot of ideal roles because of age
The Lone Ranger? In 2011? This story died of old age 60 years ago.
