EXCLUSIVE: Showtime’s SVP of talent and casting Beth Klein, a well-respected TV casting executive, is leaving the pay cable network after 23 years to pursue other casting opportunities. “I’m incredibly proud of my body of work here at Showtime and have been fortunate to have worked with such talented and creative artists within our community. They have taught me more than I ever imagined I’d learn,” said Klein. “I’m looking forward to the next chapter doing what I love to do most.”
During her tenure at Showtime, Klein has overseen casting for the network’s scripted series, including Queer as Folk, the L-Word, Dexter, Weeds, The Tudors, Nurse Jackie, United States of Tara, The Big C, Episodes, Shameless, Californication and The Borgias; more than 30 made-for-TV movies; as well as recent pilots House of Lies and Homeland. For the last 23 years, Klein spearheaded casting for Showtime while also working for other divisions of CBS/Viacom, including Viacom Prods., where she cast such series as Sabrina, the Teenage Witch and Ed.
Klein is the second senior Showtime executive to depart following the regime change at the cable network last year that saw David Nevins taking over from Robert Greenblatt as president of entertainment. SVP original programming Danielle Gelber exited at the end of her contract in December.

Is she going to join Bob Greenblatt at NBC? Who’s the casting person at NBC now?
Beth Klein is amazing at her job and a pleasure to deal with. Where ever she goes next, they’ll be lucky to have her
Agree. rare. bold. talented and the picture of integrity. what a huge loss for showtime! someone is going to be very lucky!
love beth. a gracious, cool lady, who always returned calls and never
had the attitude one finds in so many who work at networks.
This is incredibly sad to hear. No one is better at their job and works harder to get great actors for shows then Beth Klein. It was really her taste that helped to turn around Showtime to a network of class…good luck David…back to B list for you
Beth is one of the most innovative and forward-thinking talent execs around and has incredible taste. This will certainly be a ‘get’ for whomever is smart enough to scoop her up. Just look at what talent SHOWTIME has amassed under her purview!
She is always a pleasure to deal with. will miss her there.
She was alright… really difficult to get certain actors into meet… which felt pretty ridiculous once you saw the quality of shows being produced… I think Showtime would be 3rd place on anyone’s estimation of quality television (behind HBO and AMC)… Don’t really care for these execs who take their materials so preciously when the end result is something Californication. But wish her well.
This belonged here:
Couldn’t get your clients in, so then you slime the quality of the projects you couldn’t get them in for? What a class act you seem to be.
SHe is brilliant and will be sorely missed – -I hope someone good snatches her up asap!

Hope this is really something good for Beth and not just politicizing a contract negotiation. I’ve been a fan of Beth’s for years, but after 23 years, it sounds like another case of thinking someone younger (and cheaper!) can do the same job. Shortsighted.
Good luck, Beth! Let us know where you land, because they will be lucky to have you!
Beth will be missed and I sure hope to continue dealing with her at some new destination. She is always approachable, warm and even in tough negotiations, I always found her to be creative.
Beth is a class act and thanks to her Showtime enjoyed some of the best casting on television. Big loss for them.
Smart, classy, always supportive, and genuine….you will be missed more than I can ever say. And “gracias” for all you have done for me over the many years, my friend.
I worked with Beth for several years while she was at Showtime. She was always receptive, creative, aggressive and thoughtful. Beth is a woman whose talent and personality are perfectly suited to the often overlooked role of the casting department. Beth, I wish nothing but the best for you. So proud to have worked with you.
Beth is a great person, and fantastic at what she does. I do hope she is moving on to bigger and better!
Truly the best. Honest, filled with integrity and a true class act. Besides, what other executive goes for the true artists (Toni Collette, Mary Louise Parker, David Duchovny, Laura Linney, Edie Falco) rather than chasing the same generic names year after year. You will be sorely missed.
Only the best for Beth! Good luck to her where ever she goes next. That place will be equally lucky to have her on their team.
How could any company let Beth go? No one can match her ability and kindness. This better be a step up. Plus, she is one hell of a poker player.
She helped me get some great casting jobs and I will be forever grateful.
Definitely a fan here.
Beth is an amazing person, with impeccable taste..
They are going to miss her…
she’s got the best ahead of her..
Beth is extremely well-versed in her field, understands the business as well as the show and is modest in not inconsiderable accomplishments, not the least of which is surviving and thriving a multitude of Viacom Prods./Showtime regimes dating back to the Tom Tannenbaum days; she’ll do very well where ever she goes.
