TV Land said today that it is proceeding with plans for a Hot In Cleveland spinoff starring Cedric the Entertainer. The planted spinoff, starring Cedric as a minister, will be introduced in multiple episodes of Hot In Cleveland’s upcoming season this summer. According to TV Land’s release, “the untitled series is contingent upon the pilot script, which will be co-written by Cedric and (Hot creator/executive producer) Suzanne Martin.” Martin would also serve as executive producer of the new series along with fellow Hot In Cleveland exec producers Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner of Hazy Mills Prods. “Coupling Cedric’s comedic timing with Suzanne’s incredible writing skills will definitely create magic for the network,” said TV Land’s EVP development and original programming Keith Cox. Hot In Cleveland returns with originals June 15.

Not a true spin off! Please do not call it a spin off. The Jefferson’s was a spin off not a character they introduce on a show for the purpose of only spinning it off.
It’s called a “planted” spin-off.
its called 4-6 episodes and cancelled.
Did he hit rock bottom already?
Cedric is hilarious. No matter what you call it, it’s great that there is a resurgence of multicams — and multicams are giving writers and actors jobs. I’ll give it a chance.
How do take a fun piece of fluff like ‘Hot In Cleveland’ and try to add this guy and make a spin-off. I’ve seen some of his stand-up and it was pretty good but as an actor his talentless and not someone that viewers will flock to.
I thought TV Land was onto something with HIC but after Retired at 30 and now this I’m thinking I was wrong.
I think Cedric has had 2-3 pilots with ABC Studios in the last few years that just haven’t worked for whatever reason. I’m not much of a fan (but not a hater also).
TVLand shouldn’t just center on the talent attached. If the show is interesting, their audience will watch it. I mean people are watching Retired at 35 and that show is pretty bad (although it probably has to do with the lead, who’s just horribly miscast).
I agree, whoever did the casting on Retired at 35 should be fired. Just terrible.
Loved Cedric in “Kings Of Comedy” In fact, loved them all. Time for Cedric to have his own show!
For whatever the reasons Cedric’s past pilots haven’t worked, Suzanne Martin will be not make those mistakes. She has a great knack at writing and producing multi-cam.
