Here is a first look at HBO’s upcoming horse racing drama series Luck from Michael Mann and David Milch. Set to premiere in the fall, it stars Dustin Hoffman and co-stars Dennis Farina, John Ortiz and Nick Nolte. Joan Allen and Michael Gambon are recurring.

This looks…. boring. Great cast, but honestly, who can believe they gave Milch another shot after John from Cincinatti stunk up the joint?
Another shot? Yeah because Deadwood and NYPD Blue are total pieces of shit. Guy obviously can’t write television so why bet on him since he had one failure. I guess as soon as you have a failure – all your successes go out the window. Think it looks pretty cool myself. And oh yeah, pretty sure it’s Cincinnati (but your spelling works too).
John from Cincy was really interesting to watch. Fantastic cast. Ed O’Neill tore the fuck out of a great soliloquy to his bird. Show shoulda been given a chance.
Dear Wow. You are…insufferable. Dissing David Milch? You’re kidding, right? Milch is extraordinary!
I’ve always wanted to see Dustin Hoffman and Philip Seymour Hoffman do a movie together so that we would finally see the two greatest Hoffmans of all time together on screen. They are both incredible actors and it would be amazing to see them bounce off each other in a film.
This looks right up my street. I am so in.
Fucking love it!!!!!!!!!
It kills me when director’s don’t do their homework. To say Dustin Hoffman has never played a gangster is just plain wrong. I guess Michael Mann has never seen Dustin Hoffman as Dutch Schultz in Billy Bathgate.
Prediction: This will be a huge hit. I’d rather watch movies than tv but I’m looking forward to this.
What a bunch of washed up old farts and hasbeens. Thankfully, they’re all on the same dull and derivative show, so I can ignore them all in one fell swoop.
HBO should have never canceled Deadwood if crap like this and Game of Toilets was what they were going to force upon us.
They say Dustin Hoffman hasn’t played an organized crime figure before. Didn’t he play Dutch Schultz years ago?
The world of horse-racing isn’t appealing to me, but i’ll give it a shot. They should add vampires or something. jk.
Do not get the appeal of this at all. Great cast/creative pedigree but… this looks awfully snooze-worthy. Let me guess, another show where the only women featured will primarily be sex objects for the developed male characters? I really hope HBO will prove me wrong.
Uh, did you see Mildred Pierce? Temple Grandin? True Blood? Big Love?
Lots of strong and developed female driven vehicles at HBO.
For the love of God…Mildred Pierce was horrendous! Please, I can’t even bear to see that name in print let alone think about it in comparison to something like Luck, which looks pretty good actually…as opposed to MP which SUCKED! That is all.
Looking forward to Joan Allen.
This looks cool. Better than Boardwalk Empire, which I do think is overrated.
Can’t wait! Brilliant group of people.
Exactly!
The world of horse racing doesn’t appeal, but the cast and Milch are enough to convince me otherwise. And I happened to really like John From Cincinnati.
The world of Horse Racing is THE most interesting setting for a drama. The race track has all walks of life. The poor, the undocumented, the rich, the grifters, the abusers, the athletes and of course, the horses.
There will be no excuses if this is not a success. I really hope it’s great.
HBO and Milch stole this project…
Sure did stink and I’m sure the hundreds of great TV episodes he made don’t compare to all the success you’ve had in your life waiting tables at Denny’s.
*Sigh* I wish Milch would just bring back Deadwood already, get HBO to sign off on one more good season of the show.
HBO shut down Deadwood cos of the enormous expenses that show cost. They planned to do TV movie follow-ups but then they torn down the massive sets. So good luck wishing they bring back Deadwood.
And another thing. Michael Mann does his own damn grocery shopping! Joan Allen is exquisite. Milch is as Milch does which is Milch dandy! I’m in!
