While the broadcast networks are largely retreating from original scripted programming this summer, leading cable network USA is prepping its largest original series summer slate with eight series: newbies Suits (aka A Legal Mind) and Necessary Roughness and returning shows White Collar, Covert Affairs, Royal Pains, Burn Notice, In Plain Sight and the the final season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. USA will use its biggest shows, Burn Notice and Royal Pains, to launch its new series, Suits and Necessary Roughness, respectively. Additionally, the network’s first reality series in five years, WWE Tough Enough, will continue to air on Monday, bringing the total of USA’s original summer series to nine and its nights of originals to five. Interestingly, Friday, where USA launched its scripted ascent, is staying dark. Network chief Jeff Wachtel had indicated that reclaiming the night was a priority. Missing from the summer schedule is veteran Psych, which won’t return until the fall. Here is USA’s original summer lineup with premiere dates (new series in bold):
MONDAY
8 PM WWE Tough Enough
9 PM WWE Monday Night Raw
TUESDAY (premieres June 7)
9 PM White Collar
10 PM Covert Affairs

Where is Psych? This usually has a summer launch as well.
Wow. They were renewed, too, and strangely showed the second half of their last season just a few weeks after the first half.
Why the long wait between seasons? It used to be just 3 months between half-seasons.
Not that I’m upset — that show has lost a lot of its charm. I didn’t even watch last season.
According to USA’s site, Psych will be back in the fall this time around. I guess they wanted to focus summer on their new shows?
I know right.
Psych is normally the best thing about summer. It does not belong in the fall season.
Their site just says “coming this fall.” Psych is the only series I watch on USA. It used to be Monk and Psych.
I think the network never really supported the show that much, so it’s not surprising it’s on the back burner. This should be the last season anyway. Perhaps they want to send it off in one swoop and end it in December. Didn’t they do the same thing with Monk? The show lost a lot of charm and heart once James Roday lost a lot of charm and heart.
So excited for Suits and Necessary Roughness. Good thing Network TV is going to SUCK this summer and my DVR won’t be competing for shows! Bring it on USA!!!!!
How come no one is talking about a second season renewal for FAIRLY LEGAL? Show is great! Sara Shahi is great! Where’s the love?
Because it’s a boring show, despite it’s gorgeous lead. Plus it makes San Fran residents look like the dumbest, most petty people on the planet, which may well be completely true, but I think the rest of the nation is tired of shows that focus on quirky city folk and pointless minutia that is their drama for complete lack of anything resembling an actual life.
I love Psych, but I wish they would air it before the emmy deadline is — because james roday deserves a best actor nomination.
Last season aired in the Emmy deadline…. but don’t get your hopes up, he probably won’t be nomiated.
Think it’s fantastic USA is supporting scripted in such a big way! Cable continues to far outshine network.
Bring back MONK—but forget that awful series finale. That was a joke. And a bad one.
NBC Summer 2011 (repeats of USA Network dramas)
7: Burn Notice
8: Covert Affairs
9: Fairly Legal
10: Royal Pains
11:30: White Collar
Please keep Law & Order – Criminal Intent on the air. Even if you use last seasons cast members.
Criminal Intent (Law and Order) is the best and they brought it back just to cancell the BEST show on their network!
I am very upset about Psych not being in the summer lineup. My son and I watch that show. If it airs in the fall we won’t be able to watch because my son has hockey and football. Why would they change the lineup? Psych is a wonderful show…
I agree 100%. I teach and was wanting to enjoy the new season starting before school starts. This seems to be happening to both my favorite shows: Psych and Bones.
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
did they take off fairly legal? haven’t seen it on schedule, love it!!
