EXCLUSIVE: I hear Spike TV is finalizing a deal for a pilot order to an untitled comedy from writers and executive producers Jim & Steve Armogida (Grounded For Life) and executive producer Walt Becker (Wild Hogs). Jay Hayden, Steve Monroe and Ethan Embry have been cast as the leads in the pilot, which will be directed by Hitch helmer Andy Tenant. The project, aka Thunderballs, was one of six comedies on Spike’s development slate announced in October. Developed by the Armogidas at the Walt Becker Co., it follows three life-long
friends (Hayden, Monroe, Embry) who comprise a beer-league bowling team called the Thunderballs. The show chronicles their efforts to balance their battle for supremacy at the lanes with their crazy personal and family lives. Production on the pilot is expected to begin May 7 in Spokane, Wash. Hayden is with Venture IAB and Precision.

love this script. one of the funnier things i read this season. can’t believe they got tenant directing, becker producing…and what a cast!!!
Sounds promising. Glad to see Ethan Embry on another show — he was great on Brotherhood!
Thanks Mark.
This show is gonna be so much fun!!
His bowling nickname should be Papa Georgio! This casting is great: you have to have that balance of guys who are different enough to fight and be funny but are still believable as buddies.
Can’t wait!
can’t HARDLY wait
Is everyone insane? Did anyone read this script? It was like a broad version of Dodgeball without the heart. Who is writing these comments?
What? Dodgeball had “heart?” Mostly a bunch of nut shots and unibrow jokes.
Ethan Embry should have gotten an Emmy for his performance on Brotherhood. Great casting.
Did you read the same script as me, really? I thought what differentiated the script was the heart and how each of the characters are so relatable. And, more broad than DODGEBALL??? It was one of the most grounded comedies I’ve read in a while. Go back to the mailroom–or stay actually.
Funny how Ethan “Randall” got his start opposite Ed O’Neil in DUTCH. He could play O’Neil’s role in the remake — spitting image!
THIS SOUNDS COMPLETELY AMAZING!
omg this is going to be amazinng i cant wait and the top one on the left is hott
Jay hayden is awesome, happy to see him get a break and get to work with this great cast.
Great cast! Hope they pick it up. Nikki, please keep us updated. Cable is consistantly producing the better shows.
DUDE SWEET! Love Ethan Embry, and Jay Hayden might be the hottest thing in Hollywood these days. This show is gonna be as sick as its title! THUDABALLS!!!!
I meant Thunderballs….
I was lucky enough to read the pilot script to the show and was really impressed. The writing is great and I definitely chuckled a few times while reading it. Steve Monroe was great in Ms. Congeniality, and frankly, any actor who was on an episode of Veronica Mars is someone I’ll tune in too watch. I’m not too familiar with Jay Hayden, so I can’t say much on him, but the House Bunny was funny. And then there’s Ethan Embry. When his name is mentioned among my friends I hear a lot of, “Ugh I LOVED that movie!” (generally referring to “Can’t Hardly Wait”), “Empire Records was my favorite!”, or the usual female comment “Man, I used to think he was sooo cute!”. All of those lead me to believe that he’s sort of a staple of my generation. So, I’m sure that with a fan base like that, there’ll be a few tuning in to see what he does in a role that brings back the goofy, humorous, acting side of him.
I’ll definitely be setting my DVR to Thunderballs when it airs…
Ethan Embry! Dude I loved him in PIZZA!
Love Steve Monroe have seen him do serious as well as comedy. One of the first”Inherit the Wind” with Jack Lemmon and George C. Scott. then he blew my mind in all his comedy work. So glad that I will be able to watch him weekly.!
