UPDATE: While Sly Stallone is eager to work with Walter Hill, Headshot backer IM Global claims Hill is one of several helmers being discussed for the job.
EXCLUSIVE: Sylvester Stallone has met with Walter Hill about directing Headshot, a job that became available after Wayne Kramer exited the film this week. Word was that Kramer exited because he didn’t see eye to eye creatively with Stallone, who’ll star. Said Stallone: “Initially, Mr. Kramer was hired to direct a dark comedy; however his vision was much darker and exceptionally more violent than how the project was originally conceived. It was decided that it would be better for everyone to move on and consequently Mr. Kramer was dismissed by producers earlier this week. There were no volatile clashes, it was simply a professional parting of the ways.”
As for the prospect of working with the 48 Hours and Warriors director Hill, Stallone said he has had serious meetings with the helmer: “I completely respect Walter’s incredible body of work and hopefully this legendary director will become attached to the project.” The film is slated to go into production before summer.

I can certainly understand that Walter Hill may want to direct, and could possibly even need the money…but, Sly will not sit quietly and take Mr. Hill’s vision and direction…it ain’t gonna happen!
Sly is the Sly show…plain and simple.
You stupid…
Walter doesn’t need the $$$
and Rocky love Mr. Hill
You is a dumb ass !!!
I was at IM Global’s offices when word came in that Wayne Kramer walked off the film… he wasn’t dismissed, despite the spin Sly will try to put on it. Apparently, Sly is a control freak who micromanages every director. Good for Kramer, who is a real filmmaker.
Stallone going back to Comedy? Didn’t he learn anhything from Stop or my mom will shoot?
I’m a big admirer of Walter Hill. If they can work together, as opposed to against one another (and I’m looking at you, Mr. Stallone), this could be awesome.
I’m sure Hill is used to difficult talent after working with Bruce Willis on Last Man Standing.
Sounds like Kramer wanted hard R and Sly wants PG-13. Say it ain’t so, Sly. I also suspect Expendables 2 will be PG-13. There’s a war on R rated films right now. It’s like they’re trying to phase them out like they phased out NC-17. The future will be all PG-13. You heard it here first.
Walter Hill… the first person I think of when I think of dark comedies with measured violence.
Of course. Stallone is so full of shit. He wants to direct this without “directing”. Hence why
a filmmaker like Kramer said no thanks. Hill probably could use the work, but not the headache.
How can words like integrity, legendary and vision be used about a Sly Stallone comedy? Hes’s 150 years old and speaks like he has marbles in his mouth.
With all his plastic surgery, steroids and HGH abuse, it’s a wonder this man is still taken seriously.
A dvd title at best. Sly should have waited until after Expendables 2. Avi I understand from a friend, could have prevented this film from happening. The script is terrible. Sly, take a little pride, rather then a pay check. Care about your image. No matter who the director is, the film will not be great. Suggest waiting a few months. IM GLOBAL can wait. (buyers have been waiting for them to make a few films they prebought..)
Concerned UK.
Eventually the truth gets out and here’s what I’m hearing from those in the know. Kramer wanted to go R, not even hard R and Stallone only sees the project as something to make bank on and wants PG 13. Kramer thought Stallone had cheesed up the script as well and when he didn’t kiss Sly’s ass about how amazing Sly’s recent draft was when everyone else had their faces all the way up the man’s rectum, Sly went Rocky Balboa on him and Kramer walked. Kramer did a draft that was grittier and to my agency contacts who have read it vastly improved the dialogue and made better action scenes. But Sly woke up one morning deciding he’s exploded enough heads with 50 cal machine guns and ripped out enough throats and now he’s a PG 13 hitman who lives in a world without profanity or violent death. Walter Hill will not stay the course with this douche, you can take that to Vegas.
Walter Hill directing Sylvester Stallone! This is really exciting news in 1983!
LOL…
Ha! That’s FUNNY. Cause Hill and Stallone are both, like, old guys, right? And only actors and filmmakers under 50 are worth paying attention to!!! I’m with ya all the way!
Sly wants to direct this without “directing” – So funny yet true. He wanted the same situation with his last Rambo director. Once he realized that director had an opinion he was out before it was even announced in the trades. Can Sly work with someone who has some balls? How about somebody who has made a movie in the last 2 decades? Kramer can do better than a Stallone movie at this point. All kidding aside Sly, your face and body looked real bloated in that last Rambo;)
He should write another screenplay. He’s a very good writer.
Too bad about Kramer. He’s very talented and the very violent, insane Running Scared is almost certainly the best movie Paul Walker will ever do in any capacity. Vera Farmiga was fantastic in it as well.
If you have to go to Walter Hill, you know that no other director wants to work with you.
Poor, uninformed YOU !!!
have only seen one of kramer’s movies but i do know that walter hill is a CLASS ACT and this would be an exciting combo.
dga awards and emmys for deadwood and broken trail. he’s still better than a lot of what passes for talent today.
I never saw so many ignorant idiotic comments in my life. Artistic differences are the life blood of collective art and have been going on since film began. There are no heros or villains, no right or wrong, just genuine differing visions. 3 directors worked on Gone With The Wind, need I say more? Stop with the prejudicial hatreds. Jeez!!!
First off … “Freewheeler” You don’t know Jack !!!
I am related to Walter, and I resent your remarks, and so does he.
Show us your last directorial piece. !!!
How dare you make such a comment !!!
Hill.
