EXCLUSIVE: I’m told that German actress Antje Traue is the frontrunner to join Michael Shannon as the major villains of the Zack Snyder-directed Superman film Man of Steel. Since Shannon is playing General Zod, might Traue be playing his accomplice, Ursa, who appeared in the first two Superman films? Traue starred with Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid in Pandorum, and she is currently in Sweden shooting the Peter Flinth-directed Nobels Testament. Traue has been in the hunt for a big studio role. She tested for The Rite, which went to Alice Braga, and also met Marc Forster to play Brad Pitt’s character’s wife in World War Z, a role that went to The Killing star Mireille Enos. She is repped by Greene & Associates, Spielkind in Germany and UK’s Troika.

Well, if this is true losing that role to Alice Braga turned out to be a blessing. I wish Alice would also do a big studio movie that’s not total crap or flop.
Agreed. Braga already had so many studio/tentpole roles… Why hasn’t she become a name yet?
Can’t wait to see this film come out…so I can see it BOMB.
LOL
what eyes on that girl
The rumored villainess is said to be FAORA, a comic book character Kryptonian.
Yes, that is what I read as well. “URSA” was based on FAORA (who appeared in the comics in 1977) but URSA was created solely for “SUPERMAN II.” FAORA would be a nod from the filmmakers to the original source material. However URSA has existed in the DC COMICS universe following her appearance in SUPERMAN II.
Unfortunately I wish they had gone with Braniac or Darkseid — something a bit more colorful. We’ve already seen Zod, both on the big screen and in Smallville. The choice of Zod doesn’t make this seem like a truly original take on the material, but rather a remake of SUPERMAN II — which was already the problem with SUPERMAN RETURNS.
i hope it is, and not ursa. she was made specifically for the first two superman films, and zack snyder has said that “man of steel” will be a reboot in the same concept as “batman begins”-in that it will ignore past superman films.
Never read any comics. Boy, for a seemingly boring mousy guy Superman seems to have a lot of villains.
WHen you’re the top guy, everyone comes out of the woodwork to knock you down.
there would have been a sequel but everyone backed out..$$$$$$ i’m sure..traue is a cutie she may want to look into get new representation because of the roles she has missed..so they have to start from the beginning..any & all action hero movies are welcome these days of reboots , good or bad..i see aaarnold is rebooting terminator..green lantern, batman & superman ,CANT WAIT
)
Who? Where is the fecking big name in this movie that is supposed to sell tickets?! Hell, somebody over there needs to pull their head out of their ass before this floundering ship completely sinks. Have you SEEN Cavill’s acting in the IMMORTALS trailer?! Dear G-d. Humiliating.
The big name is Superman.
That was Bryan Singer’s logic. Brian/Bryan, is that you??
Big names to sell tickets? It’s Superman. That’s going to sell the tickets.
Nope, bot Singer here, but I do agree – that is what Singer thought. He was right. Brandon Routh was unknown and he was a Superman that pulled in $400 million. I just don’t see that Kevin Spacey or Kate Bosworth had much to do with that. I don’t even think Routh had much to do with it. Superman, however, did. Christopher Reeve was not a “name”. Gene Hackman was well known, but he is not the reason that the series is so well known and loved. Superman is. Henry Cavill will be no different. This movie will be huge (especially without 10 years of budget baggage that is not Snyder’s fault) and Cavill will do a good job. Some are going to complain no matter what happens. Those people, thankfully, do not matter.
As you yourself point out here, Snyder is putting a ceiling on how well his film will do. Everyone now KNOWS how much the Superman name is worth. If his film does less than $400 million (plus 3D inflation), it is because Snyder TOOK VALUE AWAY FROM THE NAME and his career at Warners is certainly over, and finding sympathy at other studios will be very hard. There can be no clearer indication that he screwed up massively, because everyone KNOWS the bottom line. And yet, still Snyder does not have one genuine ticket selling star to budge off the threshold Singer found.
another great casting by the Nolans and Warners.
yes, AND the fabulous casting directors Lora Kennedy and Kristy Carlson who FOUND this amazing actress and brought her to everyone’s attention.
What a Bavarian beauty she is.
She kicked ass & was a true highlight in PANDORUM.
Amen XYZ! Even covered in soot/grime/oil she looked stunning. “give me your shoes.”
As General Zod and Faora will be in Man of Steel, they have to include Non, Ursa, Quex-Ul, Nam-Ek and Aethyr-Ka.
One of the following actors will probably play Perry White:
Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, John Cleese, John Goodman, Steve Martin, William Shatner, Robin Williams
We should expect one of the following rising young actors to play Jimmy Olsen:
Thomas Dekker, Anton Yelchin, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Adam Brody, Emile Hirsch, Michael Cera
They will probably cast Leighton Meester, Jessica Szohr or Evan Rachel Wood as Ursa.
What I don’t get is why they keep going back to the same well and retell the same story. There must be HUNDREDS of stories from the comics, and all they can think of is General Zod AGAIN? Sheesh.
Jack Nicholson, Ryan Gosling, Benicio Del Toro, Chris Pine, Chris Hemsworth, Kathy Bates, & Antje Traue!!
Once again, this is proof that boutique firms can compete with the “big agencies”
Congrats to the boutiques who work their asses off & for the casting departments & studios to be open to discovering new talent
Nobody pasty model chick remains nobody.
Hmm. Must have needed to increase the whiteness quota of this film 500%. Mission accomplished.
Wait I don’t remember Ursa in Donner’s Superman I. Can anyone tell me which scene she was in?
She’s imprisoned in the Phantom Zone with Zod and Non. If I remember right, it’s only one scene. (?)
So Singer tried to copy the original Superman and it flopped.
Now Snyder is trying to copy Superman 2.
And who thought the same thinking would work again?
Do something fresh – idiots!
Ursa was in the very first scene with Jor-El(Brando) reciting the charges of sedition against Zod and his cohorts.
And yes…this movie will blow. There’s just too many strikes against it already. For one they’re doing an origin story. Boring. Two, we’ve seen the main villain before. Boring. Three…the director sucks. The Avengers and the last Batman movie will suck out all the air on this one.
ok, if zack snyder said that “man of steel” will be a complete reboot that has nothing to do w/past superman films, then why the heck is it being announced that ursa, a character made specifically for “superman the movie” and “superman ii”, will be in this film?! i don’t mind general zod being in this movie since he was originally from the comics, but come on, if this is gonna completely ignore past superman movies then don’t use characters that were meant to be in the previous movies! why not just use faora or aethyr?! they were from the comics!
An Ursa by any other name is still Ursa. And this movie will still sound like a tired retread.
This is a freaking farce. I remember seeing the first Christopher Reeve Superman film in the theater and thought it was original and cool. Then Supes 2 came and we got mostly the same villians. Three movies later and the a few different television shows and it seems the only thing people can think of is Zod and Lex. We are talking about a comic that has been around since 1939 more than 70 years. And the writers can only pick two villians out of those 70 years. What a shame or should I say sham. The actors are nobodys. The villians are boring. I say write to the company putting this crap out and tell them they need find someone better to write and direct and be in it. Let your voice be loud and come across as the ones in charge. We are the ones buying the tickets we should have some say in it.
Who’s gonna be Nuclear Man?
With every casting announcement I get more and more disappointed. Isn’t that the opposite effect?
Superman Returns had better casting then this. Then again, it’s an under rated film. I think people condemed the movie without ever actually watching it.
