Scratch director Wayne Kramer from Headshot, the drama that will star Sylvester Stallone. The picture was sold by IM Global in Berlin, with Kramer helming a script by Alessandro Camon. But now they’re gonna need a new director. Kramer clashed creatively with Stallone on the direction of the film, and Kramer left the picture. He’ll jump on a project he has written, which is expected to come together with financing quickly. There are rumors that the clash was more volatile, but I’m being told that’s not the case. Stallone directed The Expendables, maybe he’ll do the same on Headshot.

a battle of real titan IQ’s…
Say what you want about Stallone but I’d be real hesitant to suggest that he isn’t bright….
Sly’s always the star of the show. Love him, but ego drive. Hence the 6 Rockys, 4 Rambos, and 1 Driven.
Nice WME packaging
Go Sly!!
Love Sly. Worked on a few of his movies. Gotta have “a” game when dealing with him and yes, it’s his show. He’s set in his ways…. and he knows his shit so it’s better just to agree with him. Anyone can make fun of his movies – yes, at the same time you might as well laugh at his 40 year career and his mansion in Bev Hills.
Keep punching Rock!
Sly can do this movie in his sleep, he was trying to help the director out. Come on, Sly wrote Rocky, one of the best movies of the 20th Century.
Gimme a break-Stallone wrote Rocky OVER 30 YEARS ago. Dude is a dinosaur on his last legs and he’s never given respect for directors ever. He may have written Rocky but also wrote such classics as Rhinestone, Cobra, Rocky IV, The Expendables, Staying Alive and rewrote a dozen other even shittier films that he didn’t get screen credit on. It doesn’t matter that Wayne Kramer hasn’t made a hit movie yet… at least he’s actually made good movies. He wrote adn directed Alec Baldwin to his only Academy Award nomination. He directed the only good movie Paul Walker has ever been in. He had problems with Crossing Over but I still think is a good movie. Why do you think Stallone hasn’t worked with some of the younger great directors of our time? Aronofsky, Boyle, Nolan, Tarantino, Coens… Because he’s a control freak and hijacks the entire process and everybody knows it. He also has to rewrite every screenplay which has been his M.O. on every project. I promise you that is what happened here without even knowing it. These two guys could have been great together. One has the vision, the other has the iconic screen persona. But at the end of the day Stallone lacks the humility to put himself in the hands of a real filmmaker. It will never happen. He believes he is king shit and everybody around him keeps laying on the bullshit. Headshot will probably be a hit movie because of his name but it will never be a good one. Success and quality are two different things and Stallone only knows the first one.
I am a huge stallone fan and what you said was all true. Unfortunately Stallone is an ego maniac and the fact that Kramer walked is not a good sign. I really thought Stallone might have learned his lesson bullying himself around directors. It’s true, no great director will work with Sly and that’s too bad. I hope this movie finds another suitable director, damn I’m really pissed off, I was so looking forward to Kramer and Stallone working together.
I don’t get Wayne Kramer. “The Cooler” was so overrated and all of his other films have tanked.
Annoying. I like Sly, but either direct it yourself or let the director do his job. Must have picked him for a reason.
Movies NEVER turn out good when a director is hired as a robot to create someone else’s artistic vision, especially the film’s lead actor. Sigh…
Sly, remember when Godzilla & King Kong were in a movie together? Remember Jason vs Freddy? I’m sure there are more examples but they were successful pairings. Icons of cinema teaming up for one last swing for the fence (and it always works) – you and Arnold need to have somebody write up what happens when Rambo and Dutch find themselves face to face with the PREDATORS. CASH IT because THAT MOVIE IS A FUCKIN’ HIT. The public would go nuts for it. They would love to see Rambo facing off against a beast and God knows there hasn’t been a good Predator film since the original. (Thanks Alex Young. You really suck). Arnold back in the saddle with Rambo (HOLY CRAP!) Seriously Sly, I hear your good at stealing ideas but this one’s on me, pal.
Wayne Kramer is a great filmmaker, terrific writer and a gentleman in this business. This is a big loss for this project…
Wayne Krame is a GREAT talent. He’s a brilliant writer and director and Stallone just screwed himself. Take a look at THE COOLER. Those IM Global guys would have been lucky to land a director with the kind of talent and class that Kramer has — now he will go off and do something excellent for someone else. Their huge loss. All of them.
Wayne Kramer rules. Running Scared is one of the most underrated films ever made and Paul Walker’s best performance.
Sly has rarely worked with anyone above his status. The closest he got was Kotcheff, Jewison and John Huston early in his career. (and late in theirs) Then — George Pan Cosmotos, Menacham Golan, Rob Cohen and yes, Renee Harlan after Die Hard 2. maybe John Landis or Bob Clark? And mangold and Avildson became who (or what little) they were AFTER. WAYNE KRAMER may have thought it was going to be his game, but no way. And seeing that it’s the Stallone way or no way, he no doubt slunk away to play in his own sandbox. Do the names Luis Llosa, Marco Brambilo, John Flynn Andre Konschilowski (fired, replaced by stan dragoti!) Jim Gillespie, Steve Kaye, Damien Neiman, Martyn Burke, Peter Macdonald etc etc mean much to any of us? Stallone could have been directed by some of the greats, but chose to do it his way. And we’re still writing about him, for better or worse! Yes it’s all about ego, but damn if the guy ain’t on to something! (oh yeah, R Rodriguez – cause he couldn’t get mr Freeze!!!) One good modern director out of spite! Go Sly!!
Wayne Kramer is a terrific director, and — yes — a friend of mine, so I will admit to having a vested interest.
I was excited to see what Wayne would do with somebody else’s material, and as can obviously be seen from both “The Cooler” and “Running Scared”, he’s brought the best out from the actors he’s worked with. It would have been fantastic to see what Wayne would have done with Stallone…Sly has always cited “Copland” as a movie that he genuinely “acted” in, and I have no doubt that had Stallone managed to put aside his baggage, the potential could have been there for a career-defining moment through Wayne’s vision.
I hope that when Sly sees whatever Wayne’s next movie is, he kicks himself at the thought of what could have been.
Too bad. It could have been even better than “The Expendables”.
Smart move for Kramer. I’m a Stallone fan but not sure he can be directed.
It’s amusing. These talkbacks are true. Sly can’t work with a director who has an idea that isn’t his. For such an icon he’s gotten very paranoid in his old age. He never speaks a good word about anyone and trust me there are very good reasons why Avi Lerner is his only game in town. Wayne got lucky here, folks. The last thing a talented guy like that wants is to be in production with an insecure egomaniac. Life is too short.
What is all this Kramer is a great director nonsense? I’m so sick and tired of the director is God b.s. Some directors are more talented than others, and I don’t envy their jobs, but basically they’re glorified office managers and maybe ONE out of five hundred actually has a “vision.” Kramer has made some good films. But he didn’t make them alone.
Stallone knows what he wants and he wasn’t getting it. Whether you like it or not, Stallone is the boss here. The star always is. Someone else will come in and take over and give Stallone what he wants.
End of story. Move along.
