“The WGAE is deeply disappointed by ABC’s announcement that both All My Children and One Life to Live will cease production. These groundbreaking shows have provided entertainment and enlightenment to millions of viewers, and have provided good employment to dozens of talented, dedicated writers. We urge the company to reconsider.”

They ought to be glad ABC didn’t cancel General Hospital as well. The costs for these shows are astronomical. With the declining viewership, I’m surprised they waited this long. I suspect this will be the end of the Daytime Emmy awards as well.
That’s an incredible bummer to writers everywhere. Soaps have given so many writers jobs and allowed a ton of creativity as well as a way to be prolific and imaginative. As you can tell from my comment, I am not a writer and I understand their value – I hope a new form a TV opens up that is as good as soaps have been at giving writers work.
This is incredibly disappointing. It amazes me that the American public is accepting of continued cheap, poor quality programming with reality television. I for one am no longer willing to accept it. I will no longer be watching ABC until they decide they want to provide quality entertainment for their viewers.
In 1963 the American Broadcasting Company cancelled The Real McCoys. Two time oscar winner winner Walter Brennan as well as future SAG president Kathleen Nolan and Richard Crenna were, after years of making America laugh, put out on the streets . I have led a boycott of all ABC programs since that cancellation. I applaud the support of the WGA and AFTRA and welcome your “bloggers” to the now swelling ranks of those of us who appreciate and want to save American Entertainment and are willing to forego watching any ABC programs to affect that end.
Dawn, your protest means nothing to ABC.
New moms don’t need soaps in the afternoon, they have a DVR full of shows. This is like crying over cancelling a radio broadcast.
How about we cancel all sports then we will see who is crying over spilled milk. These shows tend to be an escape for some people. To each their own. Just because you don’t like soaps doesn’t mean that others should suffer. I personally don’t like sports.
I agree the cancelling of these two shows is absurd. They say it’s due to the economy but in the end they are adding hundreds of names to the unemployment line. I have enjoyed these programs for years. They want a show like the View. I can’t stand that show those ladies make me want to hurl. I will not watch any programs on ABC after the shows last airing. Guess I will have to go back to watching Days Of Our Lives.
I will be 57 in September. Apparently ABC doesn’t think that people as old as I am can work all day, TIVO All My Children and One Life to Live and watch them at night. Those are the only two shows from ABC that I watch. After they are both canceled, I won’t watch ABC at all.
I am deeply saddened by the cancellation of “One Life to Live.”
This is a beautiful, quality show that touches hearts and focuses on timely issues that affect all of us. I hope ABC reconsiders prior to next winter.
True the DVR are full of recorded shows. The only reason I got a DVR was to record One Life to Live, All My Childre and Oprah while I was working. Now they will be gone. I was incouraged when I heard One Live to Live was moving to the internet. I for one, will not be watching any show put in the time slots that All My Children and One Life to Live held. I realize this may not mean anything to ABC but it will mean something to me. I feel they have no interests in thier fans (me for one) so why should I continue to have an insterest in them. The only shows on the ABC network I will be watching is the local news broadcast.
