Jeez, will the proliferation of unnecessary talk shows never cease? Isn’t Ricki Lake so 1990s? (Her last talker debuted in syndication on September 13, 1993 and ended first-run episodes on May 25, 2004.) Isn’t she in the witness protection program? So I gotta ask, why????
NEW YORK — Twentieth Television announced today a development deal with Ricki Lake; for a possible fall 2012 launch of a new syndicated talk show. The deal will focus on developing an hour-long program, which would mark Ricki’s return to syndicated television. The program will be based in Los Angeles, CA and will present topical conversation reflecting Ricki’s own personal journey and recent life experiences. As her fans have grown up with Ricki, a combination of relevant themes personal to the host and her audience including family, marriage, parenting, divorce, weight loss and overall well-being are being explored for the program.
In regards to the announcement, Stephen Brown, SVP of Programming & Development, 20th Television stated: “Ricki is a pop culture icon who has built a career on her candid, straight talk sensibility and her authentic, relatable nature. With an enormous fan base, that represents all ages and ethnicities, we are thrilled to develop a daytime talk show emphasizing Ricki’s fresh and enhanced perspective.”
Lake added: “It has been very fulfilling for the past seven years to focus my energy on advocacy work on behalf families and children. Now, I am excited to return to my roots and work with Twentieth Television to develop a talk show that will give me an opportunity to share my experiences and reconnect with audiences.”

she was hugely successful when she was on..it’s not a surprise that if she wants to get back on the air that someone would want her
Gosh, I’m sure she’s not trying to capitalize on Oprah’s exit from the talk world.
For those of you that didn’t know—Garth Ancier would communicate to Rikki through an ear piece that she wore throughout the entire show. Apparently, she couldn’t ad lib or do much w/o him. His nickname: Garth Inyourear.
Why? Why not? Ricki Lake’s original show was a long-running success. Now, with the loss of Oprah and 2 more soaps, and with ABC’s lame-sounding lifestyle shows perhaps doomed to fail, this is a perfect time for a comeback. She’s a familiar face, she’s a pro at the format and I think viewers will embrace her again. As long as she doesn’t rehash the trash-talk element (how 90′s) and maybe went the Rachael Ray/Ellen route I think she’ll do ok. Anything’s better than Maury “You Are Not The Father” Pauvich.
PERFECT TIMING PERFECT PARTNERS THIS MOTHER IS ,IF THEY DO IT RIGHT (HOPEFULLY), GOING TO BE A MASSIVE SUCCESS MAZEL TOV
Go Ricki! Go Ricki! Go Ricki!
At least Ricki Lake comes off as a decent human being who lived in the real world. Someone I wouldn’t mind hanging out with. Unlike Oprah Winfrey and her ilk who lives on another planet and not too secretly look down on their audience.
I’ll check this new show out.
YESS!!! Please be on at 11pm so I can cure my sleeping problem!
Ricki Lake is only, what, 40? I was surprised she got out of the talk show game so early. She was the only who appeared slightly genuine. Oprah and the rest looked at their audience with obvious disdain.
The operative word in the Fox release is “possible”.. There is a long way to go between “possible” and commitment…and, I mean a LONG way to go…
Because both her fans demanded it.
Does this have anything to do with CERN’s particle accelerator going haywire?
I love how people who have no clue about what type of format she will do, can judge. Wait and see. She has major success in business and life. Go Ricki Lake! She will have the haters eating their words.
Oprah grew up poor and worked her way to where she is. She’s lived in the real world. And damn near conquered it, too.
Why not? Is she any less qualified than Keith Abelow or that interior decorator/Friend of Oprah that are currently on the air? At least she has a previous track record of success.
