Relativity Media has announced that Peter Adee will leave his job as head of marketing after eight months. I’m hearing that a top candidate to replace him is Terry Curtin, a well-regarded studio vet who most recently has been at Cimarron Entertainment. Per Relativity, discussions are ongoing with multiple candidates. Stay tuned. Here’s Relativity’s release:
(Beverly Hills, CA) April 1, 2011 – Relativity Media CEO Ryan Kavanaugh announced today that the studio’s President of Theatrical Marketing and Distribution, Peter Adee, will be leaving the company on June 1st, 2011.
Adee, a veteran of studios such as Universal and Disney, transitioned to Relativity when the company acquired the marketing and distribution assets of Overture Films from Liberty Media last fall. Adee has no immediate plans for employment.
“I had agreed to stay with Relativity during the transitional period to ensure a well-managed marketing and distribution operation, but had always planned to depart when the time was right. With the success of Limitless, I think the studio has proven itself as a formidable player in the industry. I wish Ryan and the entire team continued success”, said Adee.
Kavanaugh added, “We were so lucky to have Peter to guide us through our initial launch into distribution and preparing us for growth ahead. He is among the best in the business and helped to build an impressive team that rivals any in town. He has been instrumental in finding his replacement which we will announce shortly.”
Relativity currently has box office hit Limitless, starring Bradley Cooper, Abbie Cornish and Oscar®-winner Robert De Niro, in theatres. Looking ahead, the studio has popular book series adaptation Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer debuting on June 10th, followed by David R. Ellis’ Shark Night 3-D releasing on September 2nd. The highly-anticipated Immortals will release on November 11th, starring Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff, Isabel Lucas, Freida Pinto, Luke Evans, Kellan Lutz, with John Hurt and Mickey Rourke. The studio is about to begin production on a yet-to-be titled Snow White film starring Oscar®-winner Julia Roberts as the queen and Armie Hammer as the prince.

Is the Relativity ponzi, I mean House of Cards getting shaky? Perhaps Ryan can fly his helicopter to prison.
WINNER: Cimarron. They get to dump that large salary which, in this case, is the very definition of “money for nothing”.
LOSER: Disney. If they had just waited a little while longer, they could have gotten the real Peter Adee instead of the “wannabe” they just hired.
Live and learn!
Say what you want about Ryan, but Limitless is a hit. Add that to Fighter and what looks like a pretty good slate ahead and these guys are, well, making money and making movies. Isn’t that a good thing? Agree they had some stinkerw early, but those were largely acquisitions. Their original pics make money. At least, they’re starting to. So I say: continued success! And wonder why anyone who actually worka in this town would want a studio (even a small one) to go under.
More movies. More work. More money. Not that complicated, dude.
I wonder if Kavanaugh will go to minimum security prison or maximum security? Could other people opine on this topic?
Do they really think anyone is going to believe this release? In this economy Adee planned on leaving a well paying job with no prospects? What they really need is a PR person who can lie better.
So, Relativity has now burned thru 2 veteran Hollywood marketing executives in less than a year. Like Adee, Geoffrey Ammer lasted less than a year too… This idea that Adee was a transitional guy is surprising spin. They dumped Ammer and backed Adee as a transitional guy? Right. Sure. I kinda love how the release is contradicted by this report. Their official spin says Adee helped find his replacement who will be announced shortly. The lead-in paragraph says they are still talking to lots of people (bullshit). If it is Terry Curtin, she is a smart, strategic marketer. So was Adee. So was Ammer. All really strong, capable and talented. Ryan Kavanaugh is little more than an a smooth three card monty operator moving cards around really fast. He is able to get financing deals done and make himself filthy rich in the process with other people’s money. I agree with the first comment..the house of cards is wobbling..
Do they really expect anyone to believe this release? Who leaves a well paying job for unemployment in this job market? They don’t need a new head of marketing, they need a new PR person who an lie better.
Terry is super smart, exactly what Relativity needs to make the jump into the big time.
Interesting. First Geoff A and now Peter A. Sounds to me like these guys amongst many other former Relativity employees are quickly figuring out what’s going on behind the curtain and soon after get their marching orders in exchange for a nice payout and press release, but not without their gag orders! This is going to be one of the greatest tales when the truth comes out with what’s really going on at Relativity because if you take a poll, then I can guarantee nobody is happy there. Finally, since when is Limitless a box office hit? When Relativity releases a statement that says so???
why was it never announced that Relativity CFO Bill Sutman was replaced a few months ago? You ran an article about Bertram going in, but no one getting thrown out. You should keep a scorecard of all incoming and outgoing execs.
About time they realized Adee is a fast talking, all smoke wise guy. What ya gonna do not Pete?
Peter Adee resigning means he obviously knows something many of us just suspect.
and if Terry Curtin is all you can get to replace him with the level of talent currently out on the street
well thats enough said.
Well, this is Hollywood’s way of saying Adee wasn’t the right fit. I guess these euphemisms are gentler than telling the harsh truth in public. Anyway, Terry is an amazing talent and and a quality human being which is rare, especially in Hollywood.
No surprise here. Kavanaugh has trouble recognizing real talent in personnel. Adee and Ammer have reps as great game talkers but poor performers on the field. Bullshit always gets sniffed out
Relativity is so lucky to get Terry. She’s smart, talented, and will do great things there.
Ryan’s Wall St friends get to ride in private jets with Mark Wahlberg and Bradley Cooper. They go to ShoWest and party like rock stars. These hedge fund guys have another 12 months tops before the numbers catch up to them. Cavanaugh ends up a winner though, since he’s taken $200 million in cash out over the past five years.
Terry must have direct ties to this site, because i guarantee you at least 100 people have exposed her on these comments, and it seems the only ones they are posting are the two nice ones.
anyone who knows her has a Darth Gidget story…
preach on brother
Payoff must have sour grapes about something. I’ve worked with Terry for years, and not only is she an incredibly smart marketer, but I like her a lot in general.
Terry is incredibly talented, articulate and experienced. She is loyal too and would be a great addition to any team. Peter is a good guy too – as is Geoff. Too bad they’ve had such turmoil in marketing.
DAP
Terry is brilliant, creative, charming, and uber-savvy.
Also one of the kindest, most loyal people in a town that tends to err towards the side of bad behavior.
with terry on the team ,you can expect nothing but win win win!
