In what may be the first project put in development for next season, ABC has set the writing team of John Hoberg and Kat Likkel to create and executive produce My Formerly Hot Life, a half-hour single-camera comedy based on Stephanie Dolgoff’s bestselling memoir of the same name, which will be produced by ABC Studios. (The deal closed during last week’s upfronts, no less!) ABC nabbed the rights to the book last September in a competitive situation, with helmer Julie Anne Robinson (One For the Money) attached to direct and executive produce and Dolgoff and Christy Fletcher and Rebecca Gradinger of Fletcher & Co. to co-exec produce. Based on Dolgoff’s blog, My
Formerly Hot Life is a comedic look at the good, the bad, and the ugly moments in a woman’s life as she adjusts to the realization that she is no longer forever 21. Hoberg and Likkel, who are under an overall deal at ABC Studios, served as co-executive producers on the ABC/Warner Bros. comedy series Better With You this past season. They previously were under an overall deal at 20th TV where they were co-executive producers on My Name Is Earl for four seasons and also worked on the comedy Better Off Ted. Hoberg and Likkel are repped by UTA, which also reps Robinson, Dolgoff, Fletcher and Gradinger, as well as Industry Entertainment.

Like a starting gun:
Bang!
Pitch season begins on Tuesday.
And Tuesday is a good day!
Let the church say “Amen.”
Let’s see: Better With You GONE because it sucked. Cougar Town not worthy of a fall premiere, opting for 90′sriffic Tim Allen instead. I’m thinking this 1/2 hour Vagina Monologue has about a snowballs chance on ABC currently in the hotseat in 4th place. source material does not = good material. better luck with your next network Paul.
And they’re off!
Awesome! With a hook like that, it should have two, maybe three good episodes in it!
Is that true? People will really start pitching next week? I’m trying to learn here so that is an actual question of curiosity. Thx in advance for anyone willing to break the timeline down.
It varies, but many broadcast networks and several studios will be open for pitches starting Tuesday. On the studio side, some even started before upfronts were done (I know because I pitched one).
Those not open next week will probably be open a week or two later.
After Memorial Day til Labor Day is really prime development season… there will be pitches/specs bought after, but the bulk will be June-end of August. Good luck everyone!
Didn’t that guy write a book of poetry about how much he loved his car?
I love the blog and would watch this show. Best of luck to Stephanie and ABC.
Nuts ahoy! Way to go, Kat and John!
AWESOME!!! I’ve been a fan of these two writers since Earl and am so stoked that they have the reigns. This should be a good thing for all involved — including those watching from home.
Awesome! Great to see Fletcher & Co on this!
I have worked with these two and they are awesome! Smart, funny people. Best of luck!
Yes, let’s base a show on basically a blog that was turned into a book. Such concepts have long legs, after all “Sh!t my Dad Says” was renewed for season 2… ho wait it wasn’t.
Doesn’t anybody learn what good source material is and what isn’t?
Even “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell” was turned from an amusing blog and book into a crap rom-com movie.
Idiots!
Why do they even bother with developing books into shows anymore?
These two wrote a pilot called Ploppies a few years ago that was incredible. Way before it’s time. I hope some day they are allowed to make Ploppies.
