EXCLUSIVE: With its celebrity reality juggernaut Dancing With the Stars showing little sign of slowing down, ABC is putting a celebrity spin on another veteran reality series, Wife Swap. ABC has ordered a celebrity edition of Wife Swap, in which celebrities switch lifestyles for a week. Wife Swap producer Zodiak USA is also behind the celebrity offshoot. I hear the order is for six episodes, with the casting currently under way. The network wouldn’t comment on celebrities who may be featured on the series, but Saturday Night Live alumna Victoria Jackson, who recently faced backlash for calling the gay kiss on Glee “sickening,” hinted on her blog last month that she had been approached. Wife Swap, which launched on ABC in 2004, is based on a British format. The original series did a series of celebrity episodes that scored big ratings on Channel 4. A staple on ABC for half a decade, Wife Swap, which hit the 100 episode mark in 2009, has been missing from the network’s lineup since August while continuing to run in off-network syndication on Lifetime. Maybe a celebrity version will reinvigorate the veteran franchise the way Celebrity Apprentice did with Donald Trump’s NBC reality series?

Except the CELEBRITY APPRENTICE did nothing for the original APPRENTICE franchise. The only thing pops a rating is the CELEBRITY editions…and I can’t imagine too many celebs lining up for the WIFE SWAP franchise.

This idea couldn’t be more repulsive and appaling! I’m shocked that we are now in the year 20011, where women have careers and make lots of $$$, in some cases out perform men and anyone who would even think about doing a show to degrade women as is the husbnads / men have the power or any right or authority at all over another human being to sell off or trade in as if she / human being was an object or an animal! Any women who would subject themselves to be treated or disrespected in such manner have no self esteem or self worth! I encourage any woman that if the man you’re with treat you badly or disrespect you in any manner, you should leave the low life! This behavior and show conecpt is unacceptable in a civilized society we live in! It’s exactly this kind of mind set and dis empower women and encourage violence / domestic abuse towards women! This show is appalling! I hope no one signs on for this! It’s ridiculous! I know you all like $$$$, but there has to be boudaries some where! Celebrity Apprentice is a business show, it empowers people! It’s very differnt than selling or swapping people like they’re animals! What gives the men the right to think that they have any power at all to order their wives to be with someone else! The women should slap the shit out of the guys and leave them! Disgusting!

Now, this is true reality tv. Tons of celebrities in hollywood wife/husband/boyfriend/girlfriend swap all the time. The problem is that ABC can only get celebrities we don’t really care about.
Really That no-talent moron Victoria Jackson is the best they can do? It makes the line-ups for Celebrity Rehab look like Oscar night. Hope they aim higher than the F List.

why doesn’t if abc has to bring wife swap back to fill a gap just instead of doing a version with d list celebs like victoria jackson just bring wife swap back to its network for surely the so called warrior goddess lady who freaked out over gargoyles would like another shot. not to mention celebs go through marriages some time like tissues so finding enough celebs to swap has to be the biggest hurdle for this show.
