A&E announced today that it has ordered seven one-hour episodes of Flipped, which stars former Survivor bad guy Russell Hantz and his family around Houston as they attempt to buy houses at low prices, renovate and sell for a profit. The series is set to air later this year. “House flipping is back, and the stakes have been elevated,” said David McKillop, EVP Programming at A&E Network and BIO Channel. “Known as the entrepreneur on Survivor, Hantz’s life as a house flipper is truly outrageous, real and genuine, which fits in nicely with our lineup of non-scripted original series.” Flipped is produced for A&E Network by Departure Films. Max Weissman, Matt Levine and Tim Robbins serve as executive producers for Departure; McKillop, Elaine Frontain-Bryant and Jessica Morgan exec produce for A&E.

I believe what the poster you responded to was saying is that Mr. Hantz is such a despicable, uninteresting character that it is almost inconceiveable that anyone would find much interest in a television program featuring him.
I totally agree with you and I certainly won’t be watching any show with him in it.
I find Russell Hantz very interesting. I find a man who worked his way up from nothing to be a CEO of an oil company and philanthropist to such a worthy insitution as St. Jude’s Hospital.
People are basing his character off of the way he protrayed himself on a television reality show, which by all reports is not the real Russell Hantz but, something he turned himself into to try to win $1,000,000.00.
So you are not watching show, because of his “reality show” character teal? Give me a break. He is not a nice person. His “off camera” comments showed his true character. Those comments wouldn’t help in the game. The same goes for Rob. His off camera comments showed what a douche he was.
Find better people to idolize. Russell Hantz is just a media whore trying to prolong his 15 minutes of fame.
Man, all you people who actually hate Russell because of how he acted on survivor, it’s pretty disgusting to be honest, not to mention exceedingly superficial.
How can you base someone’s personal character on how they act in a game show? Even so, Survivor is quite heavily edited to portray Russell in a way that gets a reaction out of pea-brained dolts such as most of the people on this thread.
Look at the scenes of him they don’t show, the ones where he’s actually acting normal. He seems like a pretty nice guy beyond all the eccentricities that are shown on the edited segment.
To come here and say he’s an awful person based on a game show tailored to make him look “evil” and provocative is nothing short of incredibly idiotic. Someone try to tell me otherwise, I dare you.

What would you base actually liking Russell on Alex. I am basing my opinion on his opinions he said outside of the game in the confessional type scenes. He was completely mean spirited with his remarks. Since the other contestants couldn’t listen to them, there would be no strategy in acting that way. Thus, this is the way he is.

I base it on family friends who have spoken on forums like these, saying that the negativity around him is ill-founded, and that he’s actually a nice guy if you get to know him. They say “he’d give you the shirt off his back”. And remember, you can’t choose your family, but you can certainly choose your friends. I think people who are just friends with him have a much greater insight free from the bias his family would have.
But even if this weren’t the case, I wouldn’t take such a vehement hatred of the man like some of the people here. Sure, dislike how he is on Survivor, but it’s simply wrong to HATE him to a degree based on that.
I guess that is the difference between Bravo and A&E.
That’s why you order Netflix and get rid of cable and satellite. Then you don’t have to worry about crappy programming like this.
I live down the street from a house he is flipping. He is actually quite pleasant and they seem to be doing a great job on the house. I saw him working on the house way before the announcement and have to say was very surprised to walk in the house and see Russell standing there.

Flipping houses is a lot of hard work and stress and you don’t always come out on top in the end. Russell isn’t afraid of hard work and he makes money doing it. How does that make him a bad or boring person. No one is stopping you from doing the same. Don’t fault him because you don’t have his ambition. Abandoned and/or rundown houses destroy a neighborhood so everyone benefits from Russell’s effort .
Looking forward to this show! Should be really great to watch. Anything Russell is worth-watching, and it will be nice to see a more relaxed Hantz than the one we usually see on Survivor.

Yet another program revolving around “flipping” – which, if you’re the real estate owner, is just a way to enrich yourself at other people’s expense. It is so very appropriate that Russell will be the star of this show, since he has already demonstrated the ability to enrich himself at others’ expense. There was Flip This House, Flip That House, The Richard Davis Trademark spinoff, the one where that lady ( Kirsten something?) walked in and gave advice, The Montelongo Losers, that guy who played 1 game in the NFL. These shows were just all over TLC and A&E. Flipping is “back?” Why?
What happened to Richard and trademark properties? I know he had a dispute with A&E; he left and they replaced him with those crappy people. Then it took forever to launch again on TLC; that show seemed to go nowhere. I really liked his flip show when it was A&E. Too bad TLC screwed him also.

Russel is so pathetic it is funny. Rob, on the other hand, is soooo cool. I can see why russel hates rob so much, though. It must be hard seeing someone as awesome as rob get further than you in survivor when you swore you were going to win.
